For Speech 5 in my second Competent Communicator book at Toastmasters, Your Body Speaks, I needed a topic. So on July 6th 2015 I came up with one. Given this is the body language project which can at times be a challenge for people who are vision impaired and the fact that after a year of being in Palmerston North Toastmasters, I started to wonder about all the lovely people who wanted to show my totally blind friend to her seat by grabbing her arm and pushing and shoving her about the place that maybe a little education were in order. The best technique is to allow the person whom you're guiding to take your arm. That way you are one step ahead of them and when you turn, they turn with you, Etc. It was also a great opportunity to talk about mobility aids. I had a lot of fun with this project and of cause injected a lot of humour into the speech. I think judging by all the laughter everyone enjoy it too. Seriously though, people said for weeks after that they appreciated what we did and how much they had learned.
