In '67 I was in junior high on the east coast, and I loved this song. My parents went out to San Francisco to see what all the fuss was, and bought me a dress in the Haight and Dad took a few reels of super 8 film all over town, so I could see "real footage." He spliced the reels, put on onto a large can and we'd watch them and other film he'd taken all over the US, New York, West VA, Baltimore late 60s, DC at the reflection pool in '69, the people the clothes, the mountains, and of course the beaches, me my friends. All spliced, chronological, from '55-'74. Later in the 80's he had a local Camara & Film outfit colorize the film, put it all to music and he gave me 2 VHS of the whole collection. I've since had a video place transfer onto DVD. My father's labor of love on film is my most treasured thing from him. I still have the dress. It still fits ( with spanks.) And I still love this song.

10 things that make song so good. 1. The twelve-string acoustic guitar intro. 2. The haunting E minor chord when Scott starts singing. 3. The "exotic" sitar fills. 5. The bells and chimes. 6. The "people in motion" bridge with the F power chord. 6. The "communal" hand claps. 7. The strong contrasting bass lines beneath the acoustic rhythm guitar. 8. The key change at the end of the song. 9. The simple yearning lyrics. 10. The incredible vocal performance. A MASTERPIECE.

This song makes me yearn for something, I don't know what, but it speaks to my soul. There are a few songs out there that do this beautiful thing to me.

Great classic written by John Phillips. It made a lot of money for Scott McKenzie. 😀 RIP Scott And John.

I would've love to go to Woodstock. The best music came from the 60's.

The greatest generation did some good things(and some bad things), and the hippies did some good things, or at least believed in some good things.

No photos or videos or movies could ever truly convey what it was like being in San Francisco in 1966-67. You had to be there to understand. Listen to The Eagles "The Sad Cafe". it's a beautiful and nostalgic love song to that era.
