Well Nick, good you publish the video about the swap to inform people new to the hobby. My frame on the M7 has as expected broken in the same places as the 1s builds I have done on the same frames. Exactly the same spots over and over. I don't bother with swapping for a fresh frame but simply mend it using a thin wall thickness piece of 10-15mm heatshrink over the joint. After that it never breaks in any other spot as it seems to provide just enough shock absorption to prevent further damage at the struts. I do think that those of us that mention or want to investigate on a different frame are aware of the camera angle for instance, but that is nothing that cannot be easily solved by a different canopy. Love the mobula canopy though so I will stick with stock frame for general use I think because that canopy is so awesome.

@BrigzyFPV6 жыл бұрын
I like the Heat shrink idea, very cool. I don't use glue either, I use metal tape and my current frame, broken in 3 places is fine to fly with the broken prop shrouds as the metal (alloy) tape really holds it firmly in place unlike regular tape. I will try your heat shrink method next time I need a repair. Thx for that. I have 5 BWhoop75 Frames on the way too :-) 👍

I swapped mine to a Blade Inductrix BL frame, the BLH8856. Just had to raise the props on the shaft about 1 mm to clear the hoop supports (don't push them all the way down). Lost a little speed with this new frame, but it is very durable. Worth the trade off. I strap a rubber band underneath and hook to the canopy's right and left sides to support flying only one battery. Otherwise, the battery adapter that came with the Mobula7 works fine holding 2 batteries to the underside. No other mods needed.

Good stuff!!...I am lucky enough to live in China and get first crack at a few of these little guys factory direct. AND.. I totally agree, this little guy is fairly durable. I mainly fly mine around my big shop and office so I have lots of room and have yet to break the frame. Smashed the canopy on my beta many times ...but not this little dude..The most durable frame out there...IF and it is a very big IF, you can get your hands on one is the FURC thumbtack. but it WILL NOT fit the mobula7 components. and it is a 65mm frame that only takes the FU RC motors which press into the motor mounts, but it is the strongest one I have seen so far. I got mine from FURC directly on a visit to the factory and have yet to see any for sale on the market.

I have flown every whoop on the market and broke every frame at least once and as you said i have repaired them all no issues. I have had to mod just about everyone i have. So as Nick has said here don't take anything you hear as law the whoop class is a quad every single person should have.Their affordable, you can fly them anywhere and they are the easiest quad to fix. As Nick said watch as many videos as you can on what you want or what you have. I learn something new everyday.

Hey Nick, speaking of frame repairs, have you ever tried “Bondic” or “RapidFix” for repairing plastic parts? These are liquid adhesives the harden and bond when subjected to a UV light source. I have personally used Bondic and it works well and still remains slightly flexible after curing. By the way, curing only takes under a minute. Actually it only takes a around 15 to 30 seconds to cure once it is hit by the UV light. Both are just under $20 on Amazon for the kit that includes the UV light.
@madmarty71036 жыл бұрын
You need no glue at all. Try plastic welding by using a soldering-iron or heat-gun. Just google: "plastic welding". I repaired my motorcycle-canopy this way and it's more durable than any glue.
@frankbarajas6 жыл бұрын
Mad Marty - Yes, and it might be a good solution for some people. I have in the past but melting the plastic can release raw carcinogens into the air, while the adhesives we use only release some volatile organic solvents, although some of those might also be cancerous as well. Pick your poison, I guess? However, the main reason I don’t is that it seems hit or miss and may warp or mar the pieces, beyond what I consider aesthetically pleasing. But you do have a workable solution and thank you for mentioning it.
@madmarty71036 жыл бұрын
I didn't try it on a whoop frame, as I don't have one yet. I only have experience with motorcycle fairings and it worked quite well.
@frankbarajas6 жыл бұрын
Mad Marty - A motorcycle fairing is much thicker and an entirely different material (polycarbonate/acrylic?), but I agree with you it would work, it’s just not for me though. You might even fix a fairing using a chemical solvent bonding, pretty much like how PVC pipe is bound together, which softens (melts) and fuses the two pieces together. However, these whoop frames are a very thin plastic which will easily deform with a little heat. I have broken a couple of my Whoop frames. One was repaired with superglue and the other with Bondic, both are still going strong, but those were brushed whoops so speed wasn’t much of a factor in both frame breaks. One was due to my dog trying to “fetch” it for me and the other was from a case of butter fingers. I’m not a “madman” flying and “burning” the air like Nick, nor do I have anywhere near his skills in flying, but I do see myself breaking the 2S whoops due the increased speeds available, which is why this is a concern to many of us. Thank you and good luck with your “bird” when it arrives.

It seems to me from the ones i've received so far that BetaFPV was the only one that took their time to think about what they wanted to do before the began production. They made parts for the 2s class and an F4 board for it. The rest to me are just trying to get in on the overwhelming sales that are happening in the 2s class. The other quads seem to just be a bunch of old parts bolted on old concepts. Just my thoughts. But i do say that while still waiting to get my Mobula. many people are getting 1s/2s brushless whoops as their first quad or as their first whoop (coming from larger quads, 5", etc.) without prior experience with whoop builds/parts and some of the complaining reflects that, imo. it's also in a pretty early stage development wise with these things .. there will be more and more competition in them, motors, frames, fcs, etc. in the coming weeks/months. the bwhoop frame - use it on my custom build. it's had so much epoxy on it that it's ridiculous, ha, but at least it's not brittle (like the u_65 stuff, that frame is an egg shell). it's well flexible, it just has key weak points on the ducts, but at least it's just the ducts. the repairs just make it stronger tbh and are easily reapplied. i have 75pro and boldclash frames as spares, but im in no rush. maybe a tip - a lot of people use that type of welders glue or e6000. but, the kind of epoxy that comes in two tubes (e.g. loctite plastic bonder) that you mix first - that stuff sets up in less than an hour. e6000, etc. you gotta wait like a day.

@BrigzyFPV6 жыл бұрын
It may help and it could handle a little bit of weight I am sure, the frames are brittle and the quad is fast, I am tending to consider how much risk to take more than anything, I think you need to be careful with it, my 1st Mob7 had a couple of hardish wacks but not major ones and it's down already, one week it lasted. The RX is knackered already. I have a new Mob7 that I am flying still, I flew it today and was shooting through gaps but not ones that would destroy it if I missed. I didn't break my frame today and flew 8 or so flights but tomorrow I could hit one branch and it could need a new frame. I think tape would help you keep on flying but the frame would still break under it. This whoop could carry a tiny HD Cam I'm sure a bit of tape won't make any difference to the performance. @@Retset

I think if you want indestructible, a brushed whoop takes beatings like I’ve never seen. For these little brushless monsters we have definitely hit a power level where frames need more strength. They are still essentially brushed frames with different motor mounts and a few extra braces. These frames were made to be as light as possible since the brushed power level was so low. I don’t think just trying to reinforce them is the way to go. A new design is needed. One that has more focus on strength and durability.

How does the quality of these happymodel 0802's compare to betafpv's? Do you know what the mounting pattern is on those 0802's? namely the diameter of the 3 screws. we seem to be all over the place on that, with motors anywhere from 5.5mm with the original 0703's up to 7mm on the brotherhobby 0804's. betafpv's 0802's are 6.6mm i believe, which means i have to mod my old rakon whoop to fit them. Getting tired of using my soldering iron to melt bigger holes in my frames that take weeks to replace when broken! Thanks for all your information as always!
@NickBurnsFPV6 жыл бұрын
quality is always difficult to quantify. If I have a hundred crashes and nothing gets damaged, someone else can have 10 crashes and several things break. I have been on 130+ flights, two frames and the rest of the parts original. I haven't revisited the beta75x or 65x since the comparison video. I don't have the measurements of the motor mounts. I expect them to be the same within a brand. I won't be able to measure myself for 5days. We are out of the house for repairs until end of the week.

Hi Nick. I enjoy watching your videos and I have learned a lot from you. I have a question that is off topic but I did not know where else to ask it. I am building a BetaFPV 65 Pro using their 603 brushless motors. I think the shaft on the 603's is close to .5 mm in diameter. On the 65 Pro it calls for 31 mm props. I have plenty of 31 mm props that I use with brushed motors and they fit pretty snug on those. When I purchased the 603's I looked to see what props they recommended and the same 31 mm props are listed. I have tried to fit them on the 603 shafts, but I think I actually bent the one shaft trying. Do you have a recommendation as to what I should be using and where I can get them?
@NickBurnsFPV6 жыл бұрын
I suspect the shaft is .8mm. I would drill the props out with a hand drill. I have this one from amazon amzn.to/2q6O6Yt Drill out one prop and see if it fit well before drilling out the others. If the shaft is bent on the motor it would need to be replaced.

Very good points on frames, I agree, the only one to get in my opinion is the BWhoop75, it has much better plastic, more durable for sure. I highly recommend the BetaFPV 40mm/1mm Props for the Mobula7 the full throttle climb out is about 25% better, I really notice the difference. They climb like mad and they are also quite loud.... if theres any mod to suggest it would be this one, I love these props and I can fly for roughly 2.5 mins still but the performance is improved. I got mine here: betafpv.com/collections/frames-props/products/40mm-4-blade-micro-whoop-propellers-4-sets I have a quick video of the BetaFPV Props in action here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGHGomepadZrfLM

Thanks Nick. I made a battery mount with 1S jumper holder for the Mobula 7 to avoid misplacing the jumper. Here: www.thingiverse.com/thing:3263452
@NickBurnsFPV5 жыл бұрын
how do you get the jumper in and stay put?
@rtcfpv10125 жыл бұрын
@@NickBurnsFPV Insert both ends of the jumper wire into the holes first then solder the 1S connector.

@@NickBurnsFPV No worries Nick. Mention me and the battery mount next time you review the Modula7 again. Just kidding. 😁 Thanks for everything you do again. Helps us a lot to decide what to buy. 👌👍
