I like how “only a couple dozen limbs between a crew of twenty five” implies there was an average of less than one limb per crewmate
@TheRealPentigan3 жыл бұрын
It's a common misconception. The average member of the crew actually had 0 limbs. Legs Georg, who is three octopi stapled together is a statistical anomaly and should not be counted.

Not necessarily, Julia. A couple dozen could mean as many as three, if I remember the casual use cases right.
@andreasottohansen73382 жыл бұрын
@@kacyroush6293 2-3 sounds about right, but that would imply that the average crew mate has a little over 1 limb, which certainly isn't great.
@feroxfreak2092 жыл бұрын
@@andreasottohansen7338 so it's 36/25 limbs per person at beast which is... not good. But if we assume that the 4 descriped crewmates only have the named disablities (4 mates, 2+4+3+3 =12 limbs) we are at 24/21 which ist even worse. Now only 3 other mates could have 2 limbs.

It was 6 players and a crew of river pirates hired to kill a monster, sight unseen, that lived behind an impassible mountain wall called The Dam. No one knew what it was for sure, it rarely left survivors and those who did went mad with terror, but one kept saying something about a Drake. So the players are hired to kill the thing, and the river pirates hired to get em there through their secret waterways that go under the mountain. Many of the pirates names were pulled from other Longest John's songs, few of them had all their limbs attached. But each rowboat had a named captain with their own stat blocks and abilities. The Cap'n and that was her only name, gave a passive boost to all die rolls rolled in her boat cause she was just THAT charismatic. Another boat had a guy with Mending who could do repairs, etc etc. The players each took a boat full of pirates (exactly 35 pirates) and they set out. There were some goblin raiders, ship to ship combat, rapids, and other obstacles. The boats could be damaged and sunk if they get hurt enough, or people thrown over if they fail saves and then their rolls get disadvantage, and if your crew started dying off your "boat saves" to avoid obstacles got harder or lost bonuses. They managed to survive the first day on the water, spent the night in a haunted cave which was fun, and then made their way through a cursed underground cave system that seperate and reunited them at random depending on die rolls. Lost a few good men in the tunnels but the PCs survived. Albeit with added trauma. The next night in the caves there was a memorial service for the Darby Twins and O'Bannah who didn't make it followed by carousing and pirate shenanigans. The bard lost her eyes, but she had a fox seeing eye familiar so we made it work. Finally the reached the lake beyond the dam, and the captain takes out her spyglass and has a peek into the fog and spots something. She turns pale. And for the first time since the PCs have known here there is a quaver in her voice. "Oh no... Ohhhh no no no. That's bad. That's REAL bad. Brace yerselves lads cause what's coming is FAR worse then anything we've ever fought before." And then I reach over and play the song
@sothedain58013 жыл бұрын
Chopping this up a bit for readibility. The table howls with laughter, untill the duck lands in front of them, it's gargantuan, takes up 12 squares on the battle map, and then unleashes its Mighty Quack, a thunder attack that kills most of the crew instantly, puts the captain down to death saves, and deals 57 damage to 4 of the 6 party members. What follows is a harrowing battle where fully half the pirates die include Tractor Jack and Bonnie Brave Marie, but a well placed Earthbind from the wizard and a ridiculous amount of damage from the barbarian manage to keep the party in the fight. At the last moment, the bard is down, the barbarian is down, the wizard is horribly hurt and the druid is barely standing, the Cap'n rolls a nat 20 on her final death save, stands up with a single hit point, and shoves a health potion down the barbarians throat bringing him back up just in time to try and end the beast before it can un leash it's newly charged Mighty Quack. The barbarian misses.

Wow Johns & community, you did it again! Like the Leave her Johnny and Wellerman community projects, this is one of those ideas that seems great at first, but on second thought sounds terrible. Surely if you let a bunch of people that have never seen eachother make something on their own, it can't actually be good when you put it all together, right? Guess I was wrong... There are so many different ideas in this one, some of you embraced the silliness of the song, others put in way too much effort, but it works so well together. This is great.
