If Eminem had of left it (as anyone civilised would) Moby would've been hailed as a hero for conquering the unconquerable eminem. But as Stevo points out, this wasn't a winning move for eminem. "Nobody listens to techno, now let's go" - That whole line of Eminem lyrics (from Without Me) dissing Moby was so huge & came off the tongue so well, that even as a Moby & dance music fan I couldn't help myself but sing along. As much as the first part of the lyric (just before this infamous line) was uncalled for & a bit nasty, I'm sure that reference gave Moby a lot more recognition with people who wouldn't have ever necessarily known who he was. If people had patted him on the back for saying that about Em, for standing up to the 'macho bully' as some people might see it, he'd be recalling these events differently. What's fascinating is that as the story unfolded it goes from a gangster rapper bullying Moby, to Moby publicly criticising a man's art, calling him a misogynistic homophobe and suggesting he's a closeted homosexual. On top of that you did it to someone who makes jokes professionally. It was a comedian who Moby tried to use as a way to grandstand, and Eminem's response was to publicly roast you. What also amazes me is so so many supposed artists don't understand his self deprovating humour that's a hallmark of his style. They point out that he's picking on the little guy that it's something they have cleverly spotted and not on purpose. He picks on the weak because he himself is insecure and cowardly... thats the joke.

You know, this makes me feel real sad for Moby. Shady was definitely a powerful voice, we can say that most of us listening to his music probably automatically hated on Moby JUST BECAUSE He wrapped it in the songs and we really didn't know why. I personally liked techno growing up so I just never understood the beef until now. Time in perspective is a crazy thing

I'm a fan of both of them. A lot of people I think are young or were too young when Moby was relevant. For a while he was on mtv every single day, doing movie soundtrack stuff, he had a song on every car commercial imaginable in the 90s. He wasn't some nobody, His album Go is diamond and one of the best selling electronic albums ever. Eminem also being from Detroit where techno got its roots, also knows about techno music hes referenced Jeff mills and some other techno names and raves in his music. But people act like Moby was some nobody when he definitely wasn't.

I don't think he's a narcissist. I'm not saying he was perfect but he is a pretty humble guy compared to most people at that level of fame and he puts the needs of people he cares about above himself. For pretty much any award he wins his speeches are just thanking the fans and the people that helped him even though the moment is for him, for the rock and roll hall of fame he just listed out all the rappers that influenced him growing up and thanked them. A few years ago he was able to perform at the SuperBowl with Dr Dre but Eminem was going to decline unless they allowed him to have 50 Cent perform with him and gave up being able to perform a 2nd song because of the time constraint. When his daughter became homecoming queen he just watched from a school classroom to not take the moment away from her. He was on Mike Tyson's podcast and said he feels like his biggest accomplishment is raising his kids. I just very strongly and respectfully disagree that he's a narcissist because if he was he would try to make every moment about himself. I felt like he went too far with the situation with Moby but I think he is a good person and has also matured as he's gotten older.

Moby talked shit on Em in front of a camera, back them you couldn't even say Em's name without him coming for you. You start it, he's gonna finish it. and he did it in a funny way, I honestly don't think Em hates the guy. But not only am I a hip-hop fan, I'm also a massive Techno fan. the funniest thing to come out of all of this is Em's lyric "Nobody Listens to Techno" being sampled and played during Techno sets at raves all across the world. The entire crowed sings the line every time. I don't think Em realized how many hip-hop fans are also ravers. Dance music producers and fans have a good since of humor and loved using that sample.

Em doesn’t attack anybody, he just claps back at people who talk shit. iirc, it was Britney and Christina who mentioned em first. Also, Fred Durst, Ja, Bumzino, Everlast all said something about Eminem. hell, even MGK got it because he mentioned Eminem’s daughter in a tweet when she was 17. Those last few are not exactly those who “can’t fight back.” And they acting like it was gonna get physical.
