That whole album that this song is from uses a lot of samples from an ethnomusicological box set called "Sounds of the South: A Musical Journey from the Georgia Sea Islands to the Mississippi Delta," which is a collection of field recordings of black southerners singing folk songs passed down through oral tradition.

I was born in February, year 2000. My parents loved Moby and this song, among all his good material, is the soundtrack of my early childhoood. Moby is a musical genius and I'm glad humanity had the privilege to know his work.

Yeah, a box set he stole from his once best friend before completely ghosting him, and that Moby still refuses to return after more than a decade. Talk about a douchebag way to treat a best friend. Moby tells this sob story about fame, acknowledges the theft, still refuses to return it. Play. What an amazing album!! There are some tracks (I forget the exact ones right now...or the names of the particular tracks) where...it almost sounds like 'hymnals' that slaves down South might have sung, and yet, I can't say why I feel that...why I can imagine a family of slaves, sitting on the porch, singing with mournful, yet eternally hopeful voices....either way, this album is such an interesting mix of styles. I love Moby. True, cool story: back in the early 2000s....Moby owned a small cafe in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, called TeaNY. I used to go there pretty regularly. (They had an amazing vegan chocolate/peanut butter cake...) Anyway, one day I'm sitting there with a friend...the cafe is pretty crowded...then a few tables over, I happen to notice 'some guy' who gets up...goes over to the transom window over the entryway door...and he opens up the window. As he heads back to his table, I realize....it's MOBY! That was pretty cool. ;-)
