I was a raver in the uk late 80’s early 90’s,such a special time & truly a youth movement against the establishment in the uk. We would all meet up at a specific petrol station as we lived outside of any big city ,and there we would find out where the rave was going to happen, usually in a field in the countryside, then once we heard where it was you would hear everyone blowing their whistles & we’d all drive in a convoy to it.Great memories.

My dad introduced me to your music when I was 12, I am now 28, and you're still my favourite artist. From dance, electro, techno to ambient, I love it all. It showed me the variety of music with a recognizable sound. I have a tattoo of you jumping, the Play cover image. I traveled alone to Antwerp to see your show this year, and it was the best thing I've ever seen. You mean a lot to me.

On a side note: Lindsay is exceptionally good at the technical aspects of co-hosting. Her pacing, curiosity, and innate ability to collaborate are remarkable. She seems like such as master at this format; she should be teaching new-media classes on podcasting or conducting interviews. I'd love to see what she does in other contexts - on a panel-based podcast, partnered with other personalities, given her own show, etc.

Back in the day of all-night raves, it was pretty common for people to get lost while trying to find the party. Here's why: These parties were often held in secret spots, and people would get the directions through hotlines or other low-key methods. This could easily lead to confusion and make it hard to find the exact location. The process of scouting out suitable spots for raves, like abandoned quarries or barns, added to the complexity. Organizers and ravers alike had to navigate through unfamiliar areas, often using maps and other makeshift guides. While it's not always explicitly mentioned as a major gripe, getting lost was definitely part of the challenges and uncertainties that came with hitting up underground raves.

When Moby lived in the semi-abandoned factory in Stamford, Connecticut, the area was described as being on the "crack-infested side" of the city. Moby has mentioned that despite the harsh conditions, including the lack of running water and bathroom, and the challenging neighborhood, he found happiness in the factory due to the great light and space it provided. This suggests that the factory might have been somewhat isolated or at least not in a densely populated residential area.

I'm a 90s raver from Edinburgh. I'm sure Moby remembers the time he was up at The Bongo Club for some cabaret quiz antics. As an aside, Everyone in the UK loved Go (I believe you were on Top of The Pops), It's a timeless classic, and there are only a handful of tracks from this era i would ascribe that honour.

Also in Los Angeles we had the Underground source #. Which was a number you could call that had recordings of where meet ups were. Like Moby said, then going there if you didnt look like Police, they would tell you where the party was. Amazing times.

I saw you in '93 around Halloween in NYC at NASA See the Light Tour in some empty, concrete space near Columbus Circle. I vividly remember watching you, playing a guitar standing on a cheap plastic chair, I assume to get a little bit of elevation so you could be seen because there was barely even a stage. Almost no production value vs what happens today but the vibes were absolutely incredible.

I remember Fresh Jive! Yess! I remember meeting those guys in the very early 90s. And I always had a Vic’s vapor rub inhaler in my pocket… Hi all! I moved to Florida (near Orlando) in 1990. I was turning 18 and I met the most colorful human being in one of classes. He passed me an actual hand written note saying “Do you like to go to Raves? Yes or no.” I’d never been to a Rave but I’d heard of them and I was so intrigued and ready to see what it was all about. My new colorful friend invited me to go to a rave he heard that Moby was going to be there. We spent most of the night going to record stores picking up flyers for directions. We ended up at a Rave in Tampa. It was in a huge field but after a certain point the field turned in to a magical, massive dance floor with chill out tents and misting hoses. The next weekend the rave was at a skating rink. That rave was called “Danceskate” and instead of saying rave til dawn, it was skate til dawn (or until it was time to melt into the fuzzy walls a little when your pill kicked in. We heard that Moby was DJing that night but I didn’t see him. Rabbit in the Moon was enough for me that particular night. This was 1992. Fast forwarding 10 years, many raves and club scene weekends. Charlotte, NC 2002. I had the honor of meeting Moby just before he went on stage to blow our minds. I also met his vocalist/female singer - ohhh those amazing vocals. That was the last big dance party, club/rave event that I attended. The scene was fading and had been fading but I got my night with Moby. It was such a beautiful night. Thank you Moby for decades of love and your music. 🎧❤🎧

The big pants phenomenon was all about how it looked when you danced. And Vicks wasn’t about making your skin tingle they didn’t cover themselves in it, it was about keeping your bronchial passage open while on E, they put it inside their masks or under their nose or on their face and it was simply about helping you breathe better while dancing for hours on end.

Hello Moby, Lindsay, and Bagel, Thank you for sharing! It felt like an after-hours club conversation-like the vibe of a "Flammable Liquid" flyer after-party in Los Angeles, where House Music (Little Louie VEGA) is spinning to balance us out. Or maybe it was a HAPPY WEDNESDAY at the REDONDO BEACH PIER, or even CITRISONIC with DJ DOC MARTIN, DJ DAN, and DJ Ron DeCORE. It was being part of the battle of "ARMAGEDDON," Saturday, May 9, 1992.. JOEY BELTRAM from Belgium, "MOBY" from N.Y., FABIO, DESTRUCTO, TONY LARGO, DJ KILLER, Mr. KOOL AID, MARKEM X, BIG DADDY SEAN PERRY, and XFX @ BRAD BAKER all brought the energy. Mike "SHREDDER" provided the sound and a full-color 14-watt laser show MIRAGE(808 STATE) & LASER BOY & SHELLSHOCK. DJ Ron DeCore’s track-this is Los Angeles. DJs from around the world to face off in the war to end all wars. Representing from U.K., N.Y. & L.A. at ARMAGEDDON, May 9,1992 . DIGITAL NATION(Promoter). Clothing was by CLOBBER, PLAYSCHOOL, and RUBBER SOUL. Special thanks to STREET SOUND & URB MAGAZINE. 1995 was marked by DÍAS DE LOS MUERTOS-the scene died. BEEJ, MARS FM turned into Pirate Radio 103.1 FM. Dust off and lace up your Dr. Marten's BOOTs and...dance with THE RESURRECTED JESUS CHRIST MY LORD AND SAVIOR. RAVE ON, MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS!

I was 11 in 1991 & wow the rave sound was destined to take over popular music without a doubt.. I was hooked! Certain tracks just hit so hard & Go was one of those records. The record had its own identity & style & unusually deep compared to the typical dirty breakbeat & chipmunk samples of the time. For me, the Rainforest mix of Go is pretty much perfect & i doubt even Moby in 2024 with all his extra knowledge & computer power could improve it ;) Thank you Moby for your amazing contribution to music & your huge contribution in the creation of RAVE :) Technical question.. did you find the production process back then more fun and intuitive despite its limits or do you prefer the more modern approach with no limits?

Bro it wasn’t that they were shy it’s because being the center of attention is antithesis of rave culture or at least it was back then. The dj is not like a rock star saying “look at me look at me”. An important mantra to the rave scene in NY at that time was “keep the sound underground” and we resisted all things commercial and with all due respect Moby I saw you during that time and the feeling was that you were trying to take this into the mainstream, which is what you wound up doing. For me personally I thought it was all good I loved it and had respect for you even when you were on Saturday night Live and performing with Gwen Stefani, but surly you must understand the scene kids wanting to preserve their culture that they created from the ground up not unlike the punk scene.

Frankie Knuckles was trying to follow in the footsteps of Larry Levan and it wasn't quite working. So Robert Williams who was Larry's manager and worked with Frankie asked Larry if he wanted to go to Chicago to start up a spot there. Larry turned it down because he was already starting to blow up a little in NY so he gave it to Frankie after he and Robert cut a deal. Moby tell us about how you got the idea for "Southside" because your early rave days were going to Chicago Southside House Music raves.

Also important to know for those who came from the westcoast: So the story goes.... New years 1997 in Los Angeles. A large rave expecting about 5,000-8000 ravers in downtown Los Angeles. Some reports were up to 17,000 ravers had already showed up by 9pm. Early in the night. a few people apparently took some herbal ecstacy and possibly overdosed. The party was closed immediately. I was driving down the street in front of the entrance with a few friends in my car and parked and headed in. Before we got to the gate, roughly 30-40 LAPD in full squat raid gear were marching the block behind us and started shooting rubber bullets at people. Helicopters, teargas WTF?! We ducked into a corner and eventually heard the news of what happened. Roughly 10,000 ravers were dispersed into the night with no backup plans on New Years... A handful of kids died and many more were in the hospital. Los Angeles warehouse raves were never the same again... Later the Crack house laws came, Rave moved into the superclubs by 1998. Warehouse raves were no longer.

@48:48 Yes, challenging people with new and different music. Because you are a true DJ. Like I do, we think of DJs who cna edicate and show you something. We as old DJs consider DJs to be diggers and educators of whatever sound they are into. Djs these days on that level who are pmaying Coachela? They are puppets. They are part of the corproate money making scene profiring on what you helped build Moby. Its nilot elitism or snobbery to have these opinions. Its natural. And its not rave. Its festival culture. Where they dress liek their going to the beach and the only thing dangerous is that they have to pee in a port-o-potty. You laid the groundwork and did the work that helped this generation do it safetly and watered down. Like the music. Its blah. They dont know the power of Have you seen my baby! @ZechsMerquise7312 күн бұрын
it depends on the dosage, and tranquilizer/sedative just means it calms you down. ketamine is sometimes used as a prescription anti-depressant in humans. it's known for its ability to stimulate creative centers of the brain. you don't want to take it while driving, but that's most drugs. it's not known to be physically addictive or particularly dangerous in controlled dosage.
