The depression topic is so underrated in the showbiz industry. I was a motorsport journo on TV and magazines till 9 years ago and I was living that "lonely" feeling, I was every weekend on a different racetrack, on a different hotel, another fancy press room. My weekends were Monday-Tuesday, meaning no time for friends (they had their "Monday to Friday" normal life) and family when I was back home, arguments with my loved ones, a breakup with my girlfriend. It was then when I scaled down my duties and tried to look around me for other opportunities. It's then when I understood that this world was "toxic" for me, so now I'm with a normal job, nurturing my hobbies and enjoying what I love the most, one of which is trance music. Thanks Armin and Moby for raising awareness in the showbiz industry. It's immensely appreciated.

Great talk and many thanks for reminding me about that Ferry Corsten / Moonman remix of Where are you now! One of the tracks that got me into trance music about 25yrs ago… I guess it was one of the tracks played by Tom Harding in his Dance Valley 1999 set in which I heard it for the first time.

This bought a tear to my eye. 49 now and had a successful career I didnt enjoy in business. But when I was young I started making music on an Atari ST with midi keyboards and bits of equipment. Then started djing at little places like small clubs and pubs, private parties etc and I loved it. Later a friend got a korg m1 and we made some tracks I wish I still had now. But I loved it. Also liked a lot of the same music you guys mentioned. I remember getting Orbs journeys through the ultraworld and listening over and over. Especially the track little fluffy clouds. Then Moby released Go and it took over my brain for a while. I loved Angelo Badalamentis music and would mix it / add to it and turn it in rave music at parties. Good times. So innocent. Just making music because you love hearing the music you're making.

Thank you for the old man rabbit holes. Wild to think that when I discovered dance music around 98 that it really was still so young. Yet it felt so established. Kudos to Armin as well talking about being vulnerable and the challenges. I've had a barrier to gratitude lists and grateful to understand them more now and working towards sticking with it.

The first time I heard AVB was his 2003 Essential Mix, I really liked his choice of music and his style of mixing. I still love that mix. I don't love every album by AVB but still have a lot of respect for him, he is the hardest working person in electronic music.

The Generator is a guy called Jan Smith. Where Are You Now? was the track name and the most popular mix was the Moonman Remix, Moonman being one of Ferry Corsten's many aliases. Absolutely superb track and one of the ones which opened my trance journey. It also became released on Tidy Trax with a number of great trance and hard dance remixes. Ahhh, the good old days!! 😎👌

MOBY!!! You brought Jesus himself to your podcast!? I'm impressed. EDIT: I can say after listening to this full podcast with Armin. I have found myself liking him again. @@monkeyrevolution1964 first, I'm not the one that's comparing him to Jesus. Second, he's not literally comparing, it's like saying that he's like superman, or batman. They simply never existed. It's fiction. Third I don't give a f about Buddha too. Religions exist because man is afraid of death. They need to believe that when they die, there's something else. There isn't. Speaking of shame, I recently read a book about how destructive shame is for people and how it manifests. One example is people being perfectionists. Some people would tell you how proud they are for being perfectionists, but they likely learned it to please (and be loved by) their caregivers by trying to be perfect; being imperfect would bring them shame for not being good enough to be loved. Highly recommend reading about it if you are into mental health.

I played from age 15 DJ at all the school parties. My first club was an eye opener, Technics SL 1200 in front of me (two of them, lol) with a dance floor of about 1500. Great Club. Armin even played there years later. E.S.P. . I ended working at the Worx records in Hilbrow (When it was White), and plenty of clubs night after night. I use to open, hop to the next club, cities apart. Let's go through some names: MURK (if you really love somebody), Pizzaman (Tripping on Sunshine), Jam & Spoon, Joe-T Vannelli, 4-Strings, Latour, Kristine W, Rollo, Tony Di Bart, . let's even go Labels: Strictly Rhythm, Perfecto, Cleveland City, UMM, (ps. way before Armada).. so yes, you get it. I make beats, but would love it if you could feel my music, and yet take it to the next level: SoundCloud: Orion's Lane. Ps. I shouk Ferry's Hand when he was playing at Truth, Jhb. Later on I mixed live audio for Multichoice broadcast studios, deepsea dived with some sharks here in S.A., skydived yet the Apple Ableton pulls me daily.
