I'm currently in lockdown with a total coffee freak, so every week we are trying different ways for me and the teen to make coffee treats. This was sooooo good! Mine came out almost exactly like this video, but I used 1/2 and 1/2 instead of heavy cream, so it was actually a bit lighter and fluffier in consistency. It's my new favorite "ice cream"!

OMG! I made this! As soon as I saw the recipe I got into the kitchen and started making it. And in between watching the video and pouring all the contents together everything got messed up. I put one and a half tbspn of coffee powder instead of a teaspoon! And then my eggs got scrambled and then half way through I noticed I didn't have whipped cream!! So I did whatever I could and then with no hopes freezed it...I kept checking it every few hours and the texture looked amazing! Me and my husband just finished eating it and it's out of the world!! LOVED IT! I'm definitely going to get all the ingredients (except the liquor) next time and try it!!

Thats what the alcohol is for - you drink it while you make it, like you obviously did. Lol, Then the alcohol knocks you on your butt when you eat it, hair of the dog and it makes it taste amazing even if its crap. If theres no alcohol youll probably make a perfect Mocha Semifreddo with no scrambled egg and it will taste even better.

I made this today for dessert and it was delicious and smooth, not icy at all. Instead of using Kahlua I used a bit of Bayleys and it worked out well. If like me this is your first time making zabaglione please keep in mind that it is quite the labour of love! It took me ages to beat it by hand and I didn't think it would work out well but it did so don't give up halfway.

I made this and it was a hit. It took me a few tries and I learned that low heat means low heat. Set your burner on the lowest setting and be prepared to whisk for 10 minutes. Patience is key or the eggs will overcook. I tried both a whisk and an electric hand mixer. If you use an electric mixer make sure you are scraping the entire bottom of the bowl or the eggs will overcook in spots and ruin the whole batch. I recommend sticking with the whisk. Lastly, this recipe will barely fill one 8 ounce coffee cup. So, if you want enough for 2 coffee cups double the ingredients. Basically, this recipe is for one American or two Europeans.

Before reading this, you may want to lie down on a comfy couch (Something in the Queen Anne style is best) and be sure to have your smelling salts at the ready. I scrambled the eggs twice before giving up, though in fairness to Chef John, he did say a low flame and I only have an electric stove. I ended up making this very successfully by placing my ingredients in a bowl, whisk well, then cover with plastic wrap and (ready the smelling salts) microwave for 20 seconds. Pull it out, whisk again, and microwave for another 12 seconds. Pull it out, give it a good whisk and microwave for about 8 seconds. Continue doing that until you get to the same stage mentioned in the video. This goes much faster and is much easier, and the eggs don't scramble. If you do end up going too far, just call it a soufle. Delicious!

As someone who wore the coat and worked under those who wore the hat- the coats are more just to keep you clean, splatters are real and it's easier to throw a bunch of coats in a bin and get laundry done once a week than expect chefs to come in with clean shirts. The big tall hat most head chef / Chef De Cuisine will only wear that when presenting a meal. My last head chef had a clean labeled coat and hat just for that purpose- as soon as he got back on the line he was wearing another one that was allowed to get messy.
