Unboxing gouache art kit by Sibylline Meynet x Mossery

I prefer regular gouache for reusability. When I do use acrylics I use a fine mist spry (get at the dollar store) periodically to keep them moist and useable. (Which I also recommend for regular gouache too!) Use up ALL of the extra paint at the end to quickly fill in previously sketched work and/or make quick abstract paintings. You can keep the extra paint abstracts as they are or paint subjects on them later. This eliminates the wastefulness of acrylic! I also recommend using makeup brushes with gouache. Soft yet stiff ones are great when working with gouache at any constancy and softer ones are best for more watered down. If it’s not acrylic gouache you can use with watercolour fine. If mixing in watercolour with acrylic gouache it all becomes an acrylic now and is subject to acrylic paint ‘rules’ Acrylic gouache is an acrylic paint in my mind just the best one! It dries permanent. Be careful and carefully clean the brushes used with dish soap and cold water ASAP after use with any acrylic paint so as to make them last as long as possible. Adding a touch of acrylic matte medium to regular gouache turns it into acrylic gouache so you can make any gouache into acrylic gouache…. The workability of gouache (all paint really) is effected by the ambient humidity. It remains wet and workable longer the higher the humidity! Hope this helps a few people!

We used this gouache brand in my art class! My tip is practice mixing colors. Find a color you want to make and try to match it. You start with the color closest to it and then adjust the saturation using complements and the tint/shade using white/black and just keep adjusting and hold it up to what you’re matching. Starting to learn how to make the colors I need has been so useful!

Thank you!❤️ The workbook has a lot of pages for mixing colors and creating color palettes, so I’m practicing that☺️ The only kind of sad thing is that the kit doesn’t contain true primary colors, so it’s been really hard mixing a purple color, for example 😅 If I can somehow manage to get Holbein gouache here in Norway, I’ll try to get my hand on some primary colors in addition to the ones in this kit 🥰

I had to leave my paints in Norway when I went to the US in August, but I’ve made progress in the practice book, and I’ve been doing some practicing on my own too! I’ve come to terms with the fact I’m not a very good painter yet, so I’m sticking to more practicing for now haha!
