Getting a zero is pretty impressive actually. If she had been guessing, she'd have gotten at least one question correct, but a zero shows that she really did try, and in her effort somehow managed to get every wrong answer. I'm really starting to believe that comedically bad luck like this is a Hololive requirement.

This kind of reminded me of my own high school. I was sick when we had test on swedish language and when I came back I was put into a storage room to do the test unattended, and the room was filled with books. So I obviously got perfect score, but the grade was 7 (4-10 grading), and I asked why and the teacher replied "Because you obviously cheated, which should be automatically 4 (F), but since you saw the effort to even cheat I decided to give you a decent grade". Fun times.

Can relate. When I first entered uni, my senior asked, "why did you pick visual communication as your major?". I answered, "to avoid math, really". Little did I know that I'd still be using physics in photography class. Luckily, it was physics, not math. I dunno why, but physics' calculations make more sense in my head than math's.

Between stories like this from HoloJN and what I have seen living in Japan, I am starting to get the impression that japanese parents aren't nearly as "asian" parents as other countries. If this happened with me and my Korean parents, then I wouldn't be alive now to type this. I still remember solving math problems through the night while crying after a beat down. Not saying this is good, if anything, imo Japanese parents might be onto something.... their school system is still super heavy on workload though. I can confirm from personal observations.

I don't blame her for being so stressed out. I was actually really bad at schoolwork at that age, even though I tried hard, and eventually I was able to get a tutor to help me. Honestly, I still struggle with math sometimes, but thankfully it's not as big of an issue as it used to be.

I get mathematics are important but i still blame the tests. I am the kind of person that completely shuts down during an exam and thats something i got better at later in my life but as a kid you are 100% not prepared for the pressure that a test environment gives, and that pressure nullifies completely the aim that is convalidating knowledge. Its like the observer effect that states that just by observing a test subject that subjects conduct is modified by the fact he is being observed.

Japan has a very different academic grading system when compared to other countries. An interesting phenomenon is that even if an individual student fails a course, they may pass with their class regardless of grades on tests. The grades on tests have no effect on schooling until taking entrance exams to get into high school. Also, how they act is part of the grade. Japanese students are graded how they greet each other in the morning, if they remember their supplies, and how they treat plants and animals.
