Galina, thank you for this upload of Mr. Bruhn in one of his outstanding performances with Carla Bruni (also Veronica Tennant). Thank you too for including a summary of some of Erik's remarkable achievements in, and contributions to, the world of ballet. I have long felt that too much was (& is) made of his history with Rudolf Nureyev. Although they were long friends, their romantic relationship was briefer than Erik's encounters with certain of his leading ballerinas. Additionally, it should always be noted that Mr Nureyev owed Mr. Bruhn an unpayable debt ...for personally transmitting to him enough of the Bournonville techniques that helped propel Rudy to the level of International stardom that he could not have achieved without Erik's patient and inspired influence. Best wishes always.🎆
@claytongreen7000 Жыл бұрын
I'm genuinely pleased to learn from some of the information you've shared but might suggest, given your feelings that "too much is made of his history with Rudolf Nureyev," there must be better words than "unpayable debt...personally TRANSMITTING [emphasis added] to him" to describe the sharing of ballet technique. Also, better words to illustrate how a long friendship and romantic relationship that lasted 25 years should have less made of them than "encounters" (sounds like singular events you don't even qualify as romantic) with "certain" (unnamed) ballerinas. The words grouped as they are, make it difficult not to consider someone thinking about what the world would eventually call HIV. Perhaps suggesting Nureyev transmitting that to Bruhn...an unpayable debt as each person's life should be seen as priceless. Given typically romantic ballet themes involving one protagonist male and one female, perhaps conveying a relationship between two males as less ballet-like, an indulgence best overlooked between creative men, certainly temporary when compared with the fairytale "happily ever after" endings on display just before most every curtain call with any of "his leading ballerinas." Without assuming a gender perspective, those last three words remind me of a quote attributed to Prince Andrew (Duke of York) when asked by a journalist to comment on he and his daughters once again living under the same roof as "his ex wife" Sarah Ferguson. When he could have truthfully said 'with 30 rooms including 7 bedrooms it's a pretty big house' instead he responded "well, she is the mother of MY [emphasis added] children."

Although he "officially" died of lung cancer as he was a heavy puffer, it was also attributed to AIDS as he was the lover of fellow world-renown danseur and fellow homosexual Rudolph Nureyev who died of the same condition. This was before just about any at all STD's so homosexuals thought, "Hey! We're gay! We're not gonna reproduce! What do we need a rubber for?" So... like Rudi, he too went quite early. Well... he will be remembered.
