helpful video. Providing a transcript of the audio would be great as the CC is not accurate.

Preschool teacher - parent conference Transcript: Miss Rawlins (Colton’s mom) - Ms. Erica (preschool teacher) Miss Erica, how are you today Ms. Rawlins? Thanks for coming in today. Colton's mom. So let's see what we have here. Um, I noticed that Colton has been doing very well in all the activities that I've given him. He's on track with his handwriting, his letter recognition, color recognition. He recognizes all of the major colors… Hm… We've been working on shapes as well. He doesn't struggle at all with that. He's very bright. Actually. He learns and he picks up everything fairly quickly. I just have a couple of concerns, just some minor ones. I noticed that he has been named calling in class. Um, and he also takes, uh, the other student's toys like during play …oh, no … and stuff like that, or roughhousing with the other…uhm …boys, probably, probably he, he loves to, um, you know, rough house with the other boys I've noticed. Um, and he's been noticed to bully sometimes as well. … oh, no … Uhm, I have talked to Colton, uhm, about the importance of respecting other people and not, you know, touching them in or offending them in any way with his, um, roughhousing and things like that. Personal space, right? Yes. And I've noticed that he, he will listen, but then sometimes he slips back into that routine of.. of that. But the bullying, we have a zero tolerance for bullying here at the school. So I try to teach him and enforce that into him while he's in class that we cannot bully. Uhm, but those are some concerns I have, uhm, as far as that, but like I said, he's on track with everything else. Um, and I included, well, let me show you what Colton did. We… he created this beautiful piece of artwork to show you. Oh, how beautiful! Yes, he is very, he's very creative, very creative. He always comes in with a smile. I can always count on Colton to say “Hello“ and “Good morning“. Uhm, the class actually does love Colton … (giggles) … except for when he starts to bully and stuff like that. Oh, yeah. But I think sometimes probably he's just trying to giddy, uh, get the other students in good spirits and he plays rough. You know how boys are. Ah, yeah. Cause I have a few boys in the class, too, that, uhm, roughhouse with each other, too, but the bullying, we can't do that in class. I tell Colton that all the time. Uhm, I also noticed that he tends to rush through things very quickly. Mhm… And I know, you know, I have some other students that do that as well. He tends to rush through his work if it's before playtime or before lunchtime. And what I do is I tell him, you know, Colton, it's not a race, you know, we you have to slow down so we can do our best work. And he… I … I make him redo the activities that we do in class if he rushes through. Oh, good, good. So I’ve noticed at home... like if we do arts projects or anything he doesn't really want to do, he'd rather be playing. He goes through it really quickly. And I'm like, I don't want to force him to do it if he's not liking it, but asking him to redo it is probably a good way .. Yeah, right. …to maybe get him to think about what he's doing when he needs to get done. And that way, if you do it right the first time, you don‘t have to do it a second time. So I like that. I will be doing that at home as well, trying to stay consistent with that. That is good. Um, and also I included a packet for you along with some other good things that Colton has done in class. I created a packet for the letters that he's kind of struggling on. Oh, oh. Like I said, he's right on track with the recognition and the writing and stuff like that. He kind of struggles with the few letters or he'll get a little confused. So I included a packet for you guys to work on at home. Thank you. We'll definitely work at home. Yeah. That'll help them out and give them more practice on that. But, uh, she have any more questions? Just one: The bullying, consistency: My, my father, his grandpa and …eeer.. him wrestle a lot at home and stuff. So I maybe can … …explains it… Yeah. They're very… like… they're buds. So maybe I explain to him … like … we keep that at home. We don't bring it to school. …right… …and just trying to be consistent with doing the same things as you as… where …like… …sure… … I'm addressing it right away telling him, you know, there's no time to it at school. This is with grandpa fun time. And if he can't handle that, then maybe we don't do it at all with grandpa. Right. Um, I really don‘t want bullying, it really upsets me. So I think getting some library books and reading to him at home, as well as what you enforced… Uhm… cause my goal for him is to not hearing about this and I noticed it a little bit…. it's to not be a bully and to be nice and a friend, respect personal space. Right. So I think getting some books, practicing things, uhm, helping them to understand the effects that has on others and that maybe people don't want to play with him if he's going to be like that. That’s true. It's definitely something. And uhm, maybe if you could touch base with me, like once a week… Yeah. Sure. Let me know how his performances is, if you want to …like… slip a note in his lunch box or something that we all get it. If I'm not here for pickup, that'd be a great way to, uhm, to communicate. And then, that way I can just touch base with you or call up, check on him or write back to you or something. Okay. If …you know… I know the days that you work and stuff, just so that we are staying… That sounds good. … in touch on his progress. So, but that's wonderful. I'm glad we met today and touch base on those things. We will work on them at home for sure. Yeah. I’ll pu the … uhm… what I'll do is I'll keep you… when I noticed the… uhm… when I notice some bullying, what I'll do is I'll make a note of that every time that it happens and if I see it … and now you said „Put it in his lunchbox. So I'll be sure to include that in his lunch box. And also what I'm gonna do possibly next week, is write down some titles of some really good books on bullying … Oh, yeah. Great. Uhm, and then you and Colton can get those from the library or, um, get them actually from the library here at school. And I think that'll be a really good, um, thing for him. Really wonderful. Yeah. Yeah. So, like I said, he's great. He's on track right now. He's just in a really rough stage when boys are bullying and fighting and stuff like that. But I believe he'll pull through, he'll be great. He's doing a good job. Wonderful. Thank you so much. Thank you very much for that. Yeah, goodbye. (smiles)

This entire conference could use some reframing.

I appreciate the tone of this conference, but this is in no way a developmentally appropriate conference with a preschooler's parent. First and foremost, we do not label children as bullies. The conference should NEVER be the first time a parent hears this information. The focus here is on academics and is utterly void of social and emotional development. Instead, focus on NAEYC standards. This behavior is expected in boys and, in most cases, can be traced back to inappropriate learning experiences that don't meet children where they are. This is how the epidemic of ADHD gets perpetuated.
