In late 67, when the 68 year models were new on the market, I got a promo 68 GTO model. My next door neighbor, father of my best pal, was a store manager for Thom McCann shoe stores. They had some co-promotion going with Pontiac. Hood and nose molded on. Screw on body shell. It was molded in a rather dull gray. I sprayed a coat of pearl clear over, swapped some mags with slicks and skinnys. Sort of a Super Stocker of the day. Good chassis donors for this in my book would be a 67 Chevelle pro street. Either Revell or AMT.

I bought that kit as soon as it got out, Luka. My first car was a hand-me-down from my mom, a 1968 Pontiac Tempest Custom in Verdoro green with white vinyl roof. I will be replicating that ride when I build this kit. I still remember how that 350 Pontiac engine/powerglide combo could smoke some(not all) of the other guys at school.

I've loved these cars since 86 when i saw the movie my science project. "This is my Goat" In 94 when i really go started in models the 1st kit i got was the monogram gto.

Side marker lights for 1969: the LeMans (my 1st car) were in the shape of the Pontiac Arrow, while GTOs were in the shape of the GTO shield. 1968 had a lot of additional safety requirements, one of them being the front and rear side marker lights. That is why on so many 1968s, not just Pontiacs, they look like hasty add-ons.

I am getting ready to build 2 68 GTO's. One like the one I owned when I was 19 and another totally different. I love the non hidaway lights grille assembly. Please where can I find them?

Great idea for a project. This a perfect use for this kit. I’m my opinion, the chassis on those kits are garbage, but everything else is really great. Thanks for sharing.

Sweet release I may have to pick one up buddy of mind had both 68 and 69 just kinda wondering since amt make drag slick sets do they make the rims for them in stead of robbing other kits for the rims

The real cars have a different wheelbase. Chevelles, GTO's, 442,s etc., from 64-67 have a 115" wheelbase, and 68-72 are 112". The rear axle widths are also different. 64-67 cars are 1" shorter. Check out Jan and Art Peterson's 69 GTO Super Stock car. Art bought it new, in 69. That was Art's GTO at 14:15.

Great idea on the Chasis swap. I have a 69 that is all stock. Every time I see it I want to hotrod it out hahahah. I drove a lemans sport just like your moms in HS. It was red with cragars. It was the love of my life until I wrecked it showing off to girls......ya......dont ask hahahahah.
