Mocopi is finally in the US! Full Body Tracking in VRChat

OK, forgive me for being critical, but you didn’t give us any functional comparison to any of the industry standards like the vive trackers, much less give any explanation as to how they work. From the looks of it, these are just IMUs with bluetooth. You CAN achieve full body tracking with IMUs, but it will never be even close to what what vive trackers can do. For those wondering, vive trackers use IMUs in combination with laser tracking.

@@TribegreywolfVR I think your video is very well-made. There’s just a few details that would be really nice if you provided. Before someone buys something, it’s important that they know exactly what they’re buying. I think most people would consider it unethical if something was misrepresented in advertising. Doing something like showing size difference next to vive trackers, stating long battery lifes and good charge time, but then failing to give any details on how the device works in practice is reminiscent of dishonest advertising for a poor product. Yeah, people care about the battery life and size, but they care about the tracking quality a lot more. And they care how it compares to other options.

​ I already have 3x vive tracker 2.0, and 2x vive tracker 3.0 Plus the vive face Tracker. And using valve index. With 4 base stations. But I'm almost never in full body. Plus my current model doesn't have face tracking blendshapes.

This video is just, not good man. You show processed mocap footage and talk about mocopi for VR, which is two VERY different things. Mocopi recordings are extremely smooth due to their proccessing, which is not real-time whatsoever, making what you're showing not even in the slightest related to how much worse they perform within VR. Given there is no processing done real-time when used as fullbody. I ask you to reconsider how much you'd like to mislead people Also, where's the sponsorship disclosure???

The tech is identical to the one SlimeVR trackers use, but SlimeVR is MUCH cheaper. And the used tech, inertial measurement units (IMU) aka. acceleration sensors, are prone to drift A LOT, so ppl have to recalibrate every few minutes, depending on how much and how far you move around. I doubt that "AI" can mitigate this. Sure, lighthouse based tracking systems have their own downsides but nothing so far was able to even come close to the tracking precision and complete absence of any drift. Only 8grams is of course really nice, but even 8g light trackers will fly across your room if they are just held in place by magnets. I'd almost bet this being a feature that makes sure they break, so ppl have to order individual replacement trackers at a premium price. And you need another device in between, your smartphone. I'd say almost everyone has theese nowadays, but that completely fails the point of being small and lightweight. Just add the weight of your average phone to theese and they are as heavy as all other IMU based body trackers. And you have to strap the phone to your body, otherwise the BT radio will have outages making the tracking even worse. In the past, the future always relied on quality, something cheap off the shelf IMUs lack, sadly. But it will be a viable alternative for small pockets of course.

@@TribegreywolfVR I did get to demo them ^.^ From the looks of it I like them. They fix the biggest issue I had using other trackers, mainly the bounce from the feet trackers when I move them too fast. They told me they are programed to in general keep your feet on the ground when it comes to small movements. I do want a set, My only concern is how easily they will be to use for VRChat. that I didn't get a good answer to yet.

keep in mind they are nowhere near as good in VR as in the app. Look more into how they track, I wouldn't really go for these if you're dancing at all

I just hope you can re-assign the pucks. Lets say you are using them for VRChat. You don't need to have a head and wrist mounted units as you already have your head movement tracked via the headset and hands tracked via the controllers. Perhaps re-assign them to be chest and elbow trackers. I find that would be FAR more usable.

Yess I was thinking of getting these but then I heard it jitters and I don’t have a compatible phone for the app anyways 😂. Now I have a pc I’m saving up for index n vive 3.0.’. (These are only good for standalones headsets via iPhone 12 and up). It’s only recommended if you don’t plan on spending a lot on full body and don’t have a pc. people would want this 😭
