Thanks! Branch points, branch cuts and phase factor are confusing things for me. It is clarified in my mind after I watched this video.

Why we need to delete the half ray, I mean if are picking from the strips then why not pick z belongs to [0, 2 pi) to get the desired continuous argument function and consequently the logarithmic function.

This was a bit hard to follow requires an ample amount of work from the student side. The part with Riemann surface needs more explanation.
