So… I recently deleted my Duramax canyon. Didn’t do the intake yet. Not worried about the sound so much. Took a drive from southern saskatchewan canada to Daytona Beach Florida and am running about 32 miles per American gallon at an average of 75mph freeway. Wondering if better intake airflow would be even better. Power is up substantially too.

Sounds like it’s breathing better than oem which technically was the point of an intake upgrade

I'm about to buy a 2017 Canyon Denali 2.8L What was your solution to this? You just keep the CAI? Different brand? Revert to stock?
@jlg23us3 жыл бұрын
I don't want to listen to more vehicle noise, rather the benefit if any. The pathway is shorter for airflow, but is it actually picking up colder air, and does it even matter on the vehicles. My V6 2015 Canyon runs like crap in the winter (engine stutters, and feels like it will stall) , and it could be the seasonal change in gas blend. Just want my components easily accessible. No big ass plastic chunk in the way. Thanks for the video!
@georgehoy51443 жыл бұрын
Did you remove the inner fender portion of the stock airbox?
@robertw38013 ай бұрын
I kind of likes the sound after. But the numbers don't match on the AFE website. For the Canyon Duramax they're claiming just 6 hp and 13 ft lbs of torque, but their Dyno shows a gain of even less - 11.56 ft lbs of torque and just 3.7 hp. Not really much at all!
@ericrump97033 жыл бұрын
I just think it sounded more quiet 🤷🏼♂️. I couldn't hear hissing. Aside from the sound did you notice any improvements between stock and now?

Did you disconnect the positive on your battery to reset the airflow if it's taking in more air it needs to adjust.

Remember, this is not a race car, this is a midsize pick up truck. If you want to hear a turbo whistling, get a GTR. This engine is built for efficiency. I enjoy mine as it came from factory, and avoid future headaches.

I haven’t researched it enough. Won’t I force the system to throw error codes if I do it without tuning? And since I have the diesel, don’t I have to remove the particulate sensor or whatever it’s called?

@@Sicmab Mine has never thrown a code. I added my CIA and exhaust before I added the tune. Never had an issue. Check out aFe performance. It's basically a cat back. DEF fuel still works and everything. I haven't done the full delete yet.

i have a 2017 Z71 that i just bought semi used from dealer. 27k miles on it.. it has the open box AFE, two things i noticed, tested side by side with about 2017 they had on lot same year but 40k miles and the one i got showed solid 1-2 mpg better then second Z71, only dif between two was the intake and miles. tested same on same route, up hill and level driving. second thing i noticed was the hissing sound. specially when you hit pedal, hissing like a cobra in heat. i dont mind im getting 24 mpg even loaded up with 800 lbs .

Interest should be in the direction the product was intended; did power % noticeably improve? Both BHP and torque? Cold air from behind the headlight can be tunneled via aluminim tube (plus heat wrap) to appropriate size incorperating sensors as ECU is tuned, plus a quality air cleaner. Big dollars for what, I seriously fail to comprehend the expense for these aftermarket items? Comments appreciated if I'm ignorant to what's being actually achieved; just the air intake, no block offs, no larger intercoolers; only the intake. Apples Vs. apples

No mate; prior to owning the 2013 Chevy Trailblazer in Thailand > the same 2.8L the US is now moving through the dealerships. I owned a 5.7L (350ci) SB 2004 VZ GM Holden Commodore (sleeper - no stickers) in Australia pushing 420BHP on the dyno and thermo dynamics does impact heavily on power increases especially with an exhaust + extractors, tune and OTR (over the radiator) air intake @ 1 atm MAP reading. I'm going down the larger intercooler route when I can cool it down (serious problems) I believe are now attributable to EGR temperatures and it's design 'flaw' which I consider cause large issues after lack of service. LONG STORY :- Thailand Chev dealership didn't do the intermittant service at 60K but outsourced it. Air cleaner wasn't replaced and has fouled the whole intake system as well as oil through the intercooler. FFS

I agree with you! I had a S&B intake on my mini duramax and it sounded like complete crap. Took it off and haven't looked back. Our trucks with the stock turbo will never reach a point where the factory air box becomes a restriction point anyways. I was really hoping for turbo whistle like a big d max or even a turbo gasser (i came from the turbo subaru world, so ik how good they can sound), but alas it sounded terrible and i hated it very much.

ive heard the profab piping sounds ok and flows a little better, but without getting that awful droney suck sound. After enough digging online i found the turbos in our trucks were designed to essentially be completely silent. So basically it sounds like we will never get a sweet diesel turbo whistle without a turbo swap. Because of that i went stock again, and maybe someday ill do some aftermarket upgraded piping for both sound and to eliminates the balloons we have for soft joints.

id love to also, but damn they are expensive. If i towed more id go for it tho. Mostly i just drive it back and forth to work and us it on weekends to haul my car to the track. Its more than enough for that and nets me 28-30 mpg on days im not towing. too bad the big dmax cant do that. Im sorta holding out more for the straight 6 dmax coming to the 1500. Hopefully it wont be all locked down like the L5P and the aftrermarket world can have fun with it!

I have to say I’m not getting what your are. Granted it could well be that it’s not well translated via video. The exterior revs sounded a little different there was a little throat to it but also I little more small engine rattle at the same time. The problem with this is sided by side comparison was not regimented enough for us to really tell the difference. You mixed everything up and didn’t do actual side by side.. I have a 2.8L after down grading from a series of 3500 type trucks, and I understand wanting the truck to perform better. However, these type of mods remind of rifle ammo people in that they try to find the formula to have a regular load perform as a magnum. My point is this, if you want a higher performing tool, by the big tool. Thanks for the video.
