I heard these things recently on a Holo Audio Bliss run off a Soekris DAC 2541. This was an instant God-tier audio experience. Just about as close to a perfect tuning as I've heard in a headphone. I heard both the Focal Utopia and the entire ZMF line at the same event and this was definitely a better tuning than all of them. Great review!

@@Corporalis Mostly for music, but I've used them in Battlefield 4 as well. Tungsten (DS) has good imaging. Sennheiser HD800 has bigger soundstage which some people prefer I'm sure, but Tungsten is tighter, meatier. Like some reviewers have said, Tungsten sounds "creamy" - it has enough detail, but it doesn't try too hard, lets you sit back and enjoy. Frequencies are very well balanced and the depth/layering is very enjoyable if paired with a suitable amplifier. Head-fi forums have good advice on amp pairings. I'm using Violectric V280 and it's magical.

I’m really excited for my pair, I got to order the DS yesterday, now I just need a proper amp as my element III won’t be enough. I’m planning on getting a Fosi V3 to use the preamp of my element as an input to the V3

This is the topology of planar It does not refer to a single side, as in left or right, it’s the construction of the driver and construction of the magnets on both sides of the trace et cetera a lot of manufacturers are moving away from double sided due to the weight and the efficiency of drivers through techniques

I was on the fence between the Caldera, Yamaha ortho, and Tungsten to round off my collection (Atrium, Atrium Closed, and VC) with an open back to complement the AO; something that would excel with jazz, classical, soundtrack genres, etc., as the rest of my ZMFs already absolutely excel in other categories. I've loaned the Caldera, but haven't yet heard the Yamaha or Tungsten. *So, anyways, I ended up buying the VO* 🤣 The VO has _plenty_ of technical capabilities for my preferences, but bests the planars in the most important factor to me: engagement and immersion. They don't fatigue my mind when I'm just trying to chill and enjoy the music. It's like a modern super car vs a high-performance restomod. I'm not chasing every last bit of performance these days. :)

You already have the Verite Closed which is an improved Verite Open in my opinion. I would personally say either try the Tungsten or if you want another open back try ZMFs best open back dynamic headphone the Atrium. Even if your tastes don't align with mine (this is a very subjective hobby after all) the Verite Open is very similar to the Verite Closed. Edit: I don't mean to sound like you won't like the Verite Open. It is a great headphone.

I have SS. haven't heard DS. I have heard that DS is not much of a difference from SS, so I would say SS. That may change if I hear DS, but just from the things others have said that hear both, it seems better to go SS if you're trying to save money

Some who have heard both report the SS has a more fun, V shape tuning while the DS is more neutral. Though others report the differences are very, very small and mostly negligible.

I'm sure he has plans for the future, but don't expect something new from him in the near future, he's going to be super busy with the truck load of pre-order he has to deal, with Tungsten's great success. What you’ve got to consider is Ryan did not create a pair of headphones and go okay let me make it as hard to drive as possible.. Remember, there is so much that goes into building Headphones, especially planar, the sensitivity of the Headphones comes down to, for example, the trace within the diaphragm itself, and such techniques require extremely high precision tools. Sometimes these tools can cost up to 50,000 and when you’re a one-man show, and have to outsource everything you sometimes have to weigh the pros against the cons, and material type the way the trace works throughout the magnets, how it’s produced et cetera All these require some seriously dedicated tools that a major business probably could fund with a few hundred thousand dollars minimum. It’s very difficult for one person to do so they have to work their best in regards to short workarounds that works very well and can be mass produced and even then brings up complications.

He actually already did try doing an easier to drive version and it just wouldn't perform to the level of quality he wanted it to like the current harder to drive Tungsten HP's do. So don't hold your breath on an easy to drive Tungsten anytime soon... just like don't hold your breath on an easy to drive Susvara. They are what they are. Best advice is don't go into the Tungsten and Susvara waters unless you have an amp that can power them properly. Save yourself a major headache and buyers remorse

This will sound a bit heretically but how do they perform for gaming? I use all my cans not only for music but for gaming and media consumption thus I want a headphone that can handle all of it. I don’t need the typical „no bass just treble“ competitive tuning but I need a good spacing imaging that can handle vertical and horizontal imaging as well as presenting sound „from behind“

I think this is a valid question, specially movies and gaming, because I do the same, and I’ve done the same with the imperial Shang and Susvara KZbin, films, should be more than fine it’s gaming. I am not too sure about Stage imaging, I think will be more than adequate, whether it’s conducive to a good experience for FPS that’s a different story Narrative driven stories, such as the last of us, I think is more than fine

Anyways to keep it audio related, I will probably go for the Double sided version, as those will probably be my endgame. Currently I use a pair of Zeus elite, which made me sell all my other Headphones. Good bye OG clears, HD 800 s, Radiance, Probably 1990 pro.... Those are just such a good value. They come close the 800 S imaging (in gaming) and I really like their tonality. Now: Will a Element III be enough to power the Tungsten? I listen to 65 dB normally.

@@Corporalis you need about 12 to 15 V to be fair, but at such low volumes I think you might be okay. The best method would be to test when it arrives and then consider the amplifier a little bit later above 60 dB should be okay but when you’re getting into 70 and above it could be problematic also remember it’s not just about volume level it’s about driver, ability and tungsten is going to need a lot more than that

I do apreciate the effort, but I will stay away. Why? well my firs decent headphone was fostex t50, then got the geshelli amp, then got the Arya V2, then the rebel amp, then violectric v550 pro. I was constantly struggling to power headphones, and the last thing I want is for my 3000€ headphone amp to became insufficient after 6 months. If at any time I will get a WA33 or a Pathos Inpol Ear, then I will consider them. I am tired to always need a new amp. I really respect and apreciate the effort and the product for what it achieves, but I am not sure the requirements makes them an apealing proposition.

V550 Pro might actually do these wonders, due to their high voltage output. People are reporting great synergy between it and the Tungsten. Just fyi.

@@johs12345 hmmm I never seen those reports, but I don't think you are lying about it. Thing is I didn't had enough power for years and if if does not work I will be back on square 1 and will have to get 2 benchmark power amps. My next purchese will be an entry level Rockna DAC and after that I will consider the headphones. So far I am aimin for Atrium, but in 6 months a lot can change .😄
