1st gen CRVs are so underrated. They're built like tanks - incredibly tough and durable. They have a lot of personality and really grow on you. I bought a '99 for my son and he drove it until he could afford something "cooler". I was going to just sell it after he was done with it but after cleaning it up and fixing a couple little things I just couldn't part with it. It has 270k miles on it and runs like it will run forever.

i love my 98 CR-V which was given to me after my grandfather died. They got it in 99 and put many miles on it. right now its sitting around 225k miles with mostly factory parts. have done the oil pan and valve cover gaskets. oil pan gasket on mine was a pain to get off as well but did the same with the valve cover. stripped the factory black paint and just re painted it black. have replaced a lot of the front end stuff like sway bar links, control arms, ect. had to replace the wheels cause i found out three of the four were a bit jacked up. but i can say that i love the older model CR-Vs for sure cause they just keep on going. over all you guys did some awesome work this one and kinda makes me want to paint my bumpers now. good work and will be following cause of this video

my first car!!! when I was 18 I saved up my pennies and bought a beat up 99 crv for $1000 with 200k. it wasn't exactly the car I desired, but it was cheap and reliable. I slowly fell in love with it and the honda brand...I cleaned it up, made it look nicer and modified it a little bit, added an overkill bumpin sound system lol. Now I'm 22, recently got a Acura Rsx Type S, but sometimes I miss my lil old crv. If only mine looked as clean as this one lmao. Great videos guys, it really made me reminisce.

Just my 2 cents but the aftermarket short ram air system may actually decrease engine performance since it now sucks in all the hot air released by the exhaust system and radiator. Without the enclosure, it does not shield the unwanted hot air from entering the engine.
@GIGABACHI
@GIGABACHI 4 жыл бұрын
Flash News: The factory intake sucks hot engine bay air. The inlet pipe to the filter box is shaped like a U, I guess for fording water reasons. I got rid of mine after hacking the filter box. If I had to do it a second time I would cut the U section and leave just enough of it to suck colder air from behind the front bumper and close the hole where it comes up out to engine bay space.

@grahamtalsma2495
@grahamtalsma2495 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Definitely not a power upgrade in a sense. There is less restriction in comparison to the stock intake which makes a miniscule difference, but definitely a more predominant intake sound. At speed the amount of cooler air in the engine bay pretty much breaks even for power. Throttle response does fractionally improve but nothing you would write home about. At the end of the day, it's purely for sound purposes.

The RD1 CRV is the ultimate do everything 90's Honda. Swapping out the stamped/welded exhaust manifold for something that flows better wakes up the top end pretty well. I just swapped a B18C1 into my AWD 5 speed and it's a riot...super normal non descript old SUV until VTEC kicks in and it actually gets it done pretty well and sounds pretty epic. It is a placeholder for building a serious B20VTEC for more sleeper action.

I have a 2007 CR-V 2.4 VTEC. One thing that makes a huge difference in performance without sacrificing gas consumtion is: Get rid of those crappy irridium spark plugs. They are on average $7 a spark plug. And they burn up and start fouling in 2 months. The 2.4 vtec head is the same as early 90s accords. So, I installed the oldskool plugs. $ 1.50 a spark plug. Great throttle response. No more crapping out in a matter of months. It's been a year and still runs fine. The gas consumption never changed. Just power.

Yonaka exhausts are actually pretty good. I put one on my honda track car for under 300 and to my surprise it sounds amazing. Better than some of the expensive brand name mufflers I've tried that sound raspy. It flowed so much better than my DIY system that I had to retune the car as it wouldn't even idle after. Damn... I never thought that this old CRV would look good after being refurbished. Thanks for the video and appreciate all the information and tips from you guyz. Especially the adjustable suspension, the reconditioning the engine top, the M-oil reserve pan, the headlamps, the front bumper and rear spoiler plus back lamps...just nice... Makes me think about buying a secondhand CRV to reconditioned... 😃

Always like the reactions your brother makes everytime you pimp his rides lol. Does he have any more vehicles?

Those seized bolts are the demon in tuning old cars. I remember the times we have to hack, burn, Rust Buster, leverage, and brute strength to get them off.

I have a 1999 Honda CR-V with a manual 5 speed, all wheel drive she still goes down without skipping a beat. Just rolled over to 481,000 miles on the original, never rebuilt engine and transmission

I did something similar (not quite as extensive as new rims and tires lol) for my brother but man, its one of the greatest feelings to see the reaction and the joy :)

This came out nice! Its cool that you did that for your brother. Quick tip: you can use a heat gun on the faded black trim and it’ll bring them back to life. Of course it’s just a temporary fix but I’ve done it on a few cars and it’ll typically last 6-7 months. Hopefully this’ll help someone

Wow, the paint match bumper covers make a WORLD of difference on the look. Excellent tire choice as well, I have those on my 05 GTO and they hold whatever wheel horsepower my stock LS2 is making. The only thing I would have done differently is the wheels. A lighter color like silver would have been a nice contrast to the black of the car. Stellar job overall tho, really fun to watch these affordable builds.

My mans brother wasn’t even hyped to see such beautiful job. If it was me receiving this, I’d be jumping around his whole shop. But how dry he reacted, really killed all the effort the boys put in to make it nice 🤦🏽‍♂️

People react differently. Some explode with crazy screams and facial expressions while others are reserved but deep down melting with excitement. We can never be the same happiness-wise

I love how the less dangerous the project gets the more safety protection you put on. Safety glasses, respirator, full face shield, and gloves just to drop the muffler.
