Mod Phil 8: Religion as Anthropology [Urdu]

Can a non-believer appreciate religion?
Ludwig Feuerbach thought that religion was the expression of man's best aspirations: God is love, compassion, wisdom, strength. He argued that religion should be understood from an anthropological perspective. In other words, religion is really about humanity.

Feuerbach is the advent of materialistic understanding of the human condition. For Feuerbach, God is the projection of an idealized self-understanding. He considers God from an anthropological perspective, and while important for primitive societies, God for him is nothing but a man-made concept to embody humankind's aspirations. What this video presents is a very simplistic understanding of Feuerbach, and I can understand, given the narrow space for discourse in Pakistan. However, Feuerbach is a pioneer intellectual in social sciences and humanities. For me, his work is the first solid theoretical iteration of atheism, as the material critique of religion is the most powerful argument in the arsenal of the modern world since all forays of pure inductive or deductive logic are mere guesswork, slippery and bending both ways with no progress. Materialism is more empirical and closer to truth. I strongly endorse him with the words of Marx: 'Everyone must be baptized in Feuerbach'. [a play of words as Feuerbach literally means 'a brook of fire']

I find this argument of Feuerbach very idealist rather than substantial if I compare it with Hegel.

. //////... اگر ہم کسی معاملے کی تہہ تک نہ پہنچ سکے تو خوا مخوا اپنا وقت ضائع نہیں کرنا چاہئے بلکہ نیک نیتی کی ساتھ اس کا بہتر حل نکالنا چاہیے مقصد انسانیت کی بھلائی ہونا چاہیے۔ اس بات پر سب متفق ہیں کہ انسان نہ تو کلی طور پر خدا کی ذات کے نہ ہونے کو ثابت کر سکتا ہے اور نہ ہی یہ ثابت کر سکتا ہے کے وہ ہے ۔ پوائنٹ نمبر دو فرض کریں کہ خدا نہیں ہے تو جن لوگوں نے یہ کہا تھا کہ خدا ھے تو ان کو تو کوئی فرق نہیں پڑے گا۔ انکار کرنے والوں اوراقرار کرنے والوں کی حثیت برابر ہوگی نہ کسی کو جزا ملے گی نہ سزا۔اور اگر خدا نکل آیا تو اقرار کرنے والوں کو تھوڑا یہ زیادہ فائدہ ہو گا لیکن جن لوگوں نے انکار کیا تھا اور دینا میں دلائل دیتے تھے کہ کوئی خدا نہیں کو ذلت آمیز رسوائی ہو گی ان کی حالت ایک فیل ہو جانے والے سٹوڈنٹ کی ہو گی جسے چاہیے سکول سے تو نکالا جائے لیکن اُسے رپیٹ کرنا پڑے گا۔ پوائنٹ نمبر تیں ۔۔۔ خدا کا تصور کسی بھی انسانی معاشرے میں انتہائی ضروری ھے کیونکہ جب تک انسان کو یہ احساس نہ ہو گا کہہ اُسے کسی کی سامنے جواب دہ ھے تب تک وہ غلط کاموں سے بچ نہیں سکے گا ۔ مثال کے طور پر میں ایک صاحب حثیت بندہ ہوں ایک غریب خاندان کی لڑکی جسے اپنی کالج فیس کے لئے دس ہزار کی ضرورت ہے بطور قرض حسنہ و میرے پاس اتی ہے چلو اس کی ماں بھی ساتھ ھے اب میں اگر روز سزا جزا کا کسی بھی طرح قائل ھوں تو میں اس کی مدد کر دوں گا لیکن اگر میں سزا جزا کا قائل نہیں ہوں اور اتفاق سے وہ بھی میری طرح ملحد ھونگے تو میں واضع الفاظ میں کہہ دونگا کی دیکھو میں نے کچھ رقم فرض( کریں جیتنی اُن کو ضرورت تھی ) اپنی گرل فرینڈز پر لگاتا ہوں آپ کو قرض حسنہ لینے کی ضرورت نہیں اور میرا احسان لینے کی بھی ضرورت نہیں میرے پاس دولت ھے آپ کے پاس حسن بارٹر سسٹم کر لیتے ہیں ۔۔۔ کیسا۔۔۔۔ اسی طرح اگر ہم خدا کا انکار کرتے ہیں تو تب ہم مادر پدر society کا قیام عمل میں لے اتے ہیں جہاں سب چلے گا کتا ہو یہ کٹی کو فرق نہیں پڑتا ۔ نبض چلنی چاہئے گرم پانی باہر انا چاہئے۔ والی کہانی شروع ہو جائے گی۔۔۔ کیسا۔۔۔////// Muzafar Nihal۔ This answer given to zayd on Pakistani free thinkers
