That really is a different look for water. There are definitely some things I really like about it.

It looks better on camera but I'm getting used to it. Maybe I'll try resin next time.

Another awesome addition!! I love how you have the pieces broken down simply but beautiful. And it all goes well together!!! 😊😊

Thank you for watching! It's not truly modular but some of the tiles really fit together in different configurations. It's nice to have something big enough to accommodate some of the scatter terrain.

Really sweet job!!! I use gloss Modge Podge to mixed results, and UV resin to decent results, but only on mini bases. Don't put UV on top of Modge Podge, unless you let it dry for several days, as the resin will haze underneath from the trapped humidity. Keep up the good work.

Oooo thats a great tip! Thank you for the suggestions!

I like the unintentional end result. Nothing like white-water to force your players onto a bridge. :)

I wanted the stream to be just wide enough to force a skill check to jump or use a bridge.

love how it turned out. Specially when displayed with the first 4 tiles behind it.

Thank you! I think I need to build a smaller bridge.

Great save on the water effects, it ended up looking pretty good. I too learned the hard way that gloss modpodge is no substitute for resin, no matter how shallow the pour. It does make great surface ripple effects. You probably could have used UV resin for this, when it's that shallow you don't even need to tint it.

I have some resin in a bin, I'm not sure why I didn't use it. I kinda feel like mod podge is more accessible to more people so I wanted to give it a try. I would definitely use it again but in multiple thin layers. Thanks for the great suggestions!

Hey check out this guy's water effect using ink-tinted varnish over a painted bottom, with a top layer of gloss modpodge. I will be trying this one out for sure. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGTap5iCZc-Vp5o

The piece looks good to me. I don't think you were entirely wrong about the mod podge. Definitely thinner layers would have worked out better.

I would still like to use mod podge this way. I'm interested in using the thinner layers. Thanks for watching!

I reality like this! I hope you keep up the good work with this series! Btw, even if the river didn’t turn out like you were hoping, i still think it’s really cool. 👍

I did a river a few months back. I was anxious about using resin. However, it was easy. Next time you want to do water go for it. You got this.

Thanks for the encouragement! I like how accessible mod podge is for new hobbyists but it is a bit limited.

@@ravensteadtotally agreed. I picked up Amazing Clear Cast at Michaels. $25. So a little expensive but if you are doing ponds or shallow rivers it will last a while. And it is easy to use. No need for weighing. Just equal amounts.

Looks great! I made the same mistake with both gloss Mod Podge and clear PVA glue when trying to create a well. Yours turned out better than mine did.

A water feature and no rotted plank or log??? 😋 Clear acrylic caulking would have worked for this too. The valley is coming together really well!

I'm gonna throw in a bonus bridge build with the next tile, something smaller. Maybe even just a few rotten planks for a crossing!

i am by no means an expert, i just want to contribute my thoughts: i think a stronger colors for the river would have ended up better, because the glue you put over the river make the colors look faded. still a very cool river!
@ravenstead

I absolutely agree! I would make the colors far more drastic and not apply washes to the stream bed. oh well, next time! Thanks for watching!

Honestly, so long as folks go for white water rapids you may have actually stumbled on a viable water technique... it's definitely cheaper than what you would pay for resin, & far less subject to screw ups: Resin has the potential to go wrong at pretty much every step - from buying the wrong kind of resin, to not using it quickly enough, to not using it when it's warm enough, to not managing bubbles, to it reacting unexpectedly to paint.

I’ve used Vallejo’s water effects before and it works great, though honestly I’m not sure it’d work as well for this type of project. I used it for a small pond.
