Thank you so much! I have a modge podge that's just sitting in my desk! Also for making doming easier and have less spills its recommended to let the resin sit for a few minutes before using, when it starts getting thicker. That will slow down its mobility. Hope that helps!

This is actually a really awesome technique and I already have like the world's largest container of modge podge you could possibly get LOL I was using liquid latex before the ones use for your nails art so that way you don't get nail polish all over your fingers but that stuff is really expensive and you don't get a lot in the bottle this seems definitely more affordable I will be using this trick today thank you for your tips my dear and your tricks

it's a silicone.... hmm... so I got it at daiso and the original purpose is to replace seran wrap. u like.... stretch it on top of an open bowl so it covers it? but essentially it's a silicone mat! Any silicone mat you find will most likely work I believe! I'd suggest maybe looking in a baking section????

I’m new to resin and I don’t really understand, what is the point in doming? Is it necessary to do it for cabochons for a decoden phone case? What if my pieces are already shiny? I’m so confused :(
@datfranimal
@datfranimal 4 жыл бұрын
Top coating just really brings out the details on any piece and really just finishes it really nice. It's really just up to whoever is making stuff if they want to dome or not tbh. Some people can't live without it and some people like it as is and can't be bothered 🤷🏻‍♀️
@Tomatoda
@Tomatoda 4 жыл бұрын
it's all up to you! Doming is to make the surface shiny (like coating your nails with a clear top coat). but also if you've painted or drawn on the surface, doming protects it from scratching off and other damages.

@Tomatoda 3 жыл бұрын
What? No
@Tomatoda
@Tomatoda 3 жыл бұрын
Oh wait. Sorry I thought about this for a while and I get your question now. LOL You make a good point. I think it’s gotta do with wether the resin is already cured or not. Like u can peel off mod podge from already cured resin. But u can’t peel it off from uncured resin. I’m gonna experiment later and see if that theory is correct. LOL. Thanks for bringing it up!
@neenweenbean
@neenweenbean 3 жыл бұрын
@@Tomatoda thank you! I watched the video of you making shrinky dinks and using mod podge to protect it and then use uv resin to dome it! And then I watched this and I got confused haha
@Tomatoda
@Tomatoda 3 жыл бұрын
@@neenweenbean ok! So I did a side experiment while I was working on some resin stuff. I put a layer of mod podge down first on a glass surface, let it completely dry, and then poured a bit of freshly mixed epoxy resin on top. After a day, the mod podge peeled off the glass surface cleanly, but the resin on top showed no signs of peeling off. So I forced it to peel off and while it did, it wasn’t a clean peel. It kept ripping off a little at a time which means it has quite a bit of grip. I havent tried UV resin yet but it might yield the same results. I think I’d like to make this experiment into a KZbin video in the future and test it more legitly. But I have a few other videos I want to release before then so it’ll be a while. But hope this gives you somewhat of an answer!
