The packing tape on ink jet prints is a great idea. On my KZbin channel, I shared a video that shows a ‘dupe’ for Glossy Accents, which is the same for the product you used. I use Triple Thick. It’s much less expensive and provides the same effect. It’s also water based. I have had the same large bottle for years. I was going to toss it and buy another. But, I decided to experiment and see if I could salvage the remainder. I added warm water in small amounts to make it thinner and it worked! Adding to say that you can also double layer the product, too. Just let the first layer dry completely. Hope this helps you and your subscribers. Happy crafting! 😊

Triple thick is amazing for adding depth. I’ve used it on waterslide decal paper. I recommend you start with a damp clean brush when using triple thick. If you start with a completely dry brush is clogs up the brush and starts drying on the edges. The damp brush prevents this.

I’ve used this product for 15 years. I still have bottlecaps with them and they still look great. No yellowing at all. I use a straw to blow out bubbles and a toothpick. Mine is made by plaid dimentional magic. The main thing is once you start squeezing don’t let up it suck up air in bottle while putting it on. Also a pipet you can suck the bubble out if it’s big. I seal all my stuff with spray sealer before I use it even my laser. I just spray the entire page less work. It is self leveling so if there are no sides say like a bottle cap it can just roll off

I believe the reason you have a nice dome on the earrings is because you did not sand the edges. By sanding the edges you are creating a miniscule downward slope, which will cause pooling of the resin towards the edges of the piece.

I’ve made earrings out of paper and coated them with this product and they’ve held up for years. I die cut several layers of the image, (4-6 layers of cardstock), and then I coated them with Dimensional Magic. I coated them with several layers. I even coated the sides so that they would be all enclosed. I added my layers once a day over several days. I think the directions said I could add them within hours, but once a day was easier, and I liked my results. It also gave them a nice domed effect. Glossy Accents is almost an identical product by Ranger. I think at one time Stampin’ Up sold Glossy Accents, only with their own name and label. Years ago! Another product that may be similar is Triple Thick by Deco Art. I haven’t tried it yet, but I keep meaning to. There’s also a Triple Thick by Krylon, I believe, and it gave a nice shiny glossy coat on a ceramic project that I painted up in a class. We used the spray instead of glazing it and putting it in a kiln. It looked about as good. I’m not sure if it would work the same on paper products, but I keep thinking about trying it as well. Thanks for them demonstration. I’m not sure if I would use this for products I would sell, just because it takes longer to cure, and I don’t know if it’s cost effective, but it was great for making something for myself, and to gift.

With resin, you can spritz a fine mist of 91% rubbing alcohol to help eliminate air bubbles - I wonder if that would work? Another idea, and I have no idea how to figure out the right amount of heat to use, but some resin users heat their resin before using presumably to eliminate air bubbles after mixing (and before pouring) - I wonder if putting the container in hot water or from a gentle heat source on the outside of the container would help some? , I saw elsewhere someone had tried this on polymer clay jewelry, and they had issues with it pulling away, and the commenters on the page theorized there might have been some oils (from handling or something to do with that clay). Maybe using gloves or holding the underside down with a little tape while you are pouring would help prevent any natural oils from your hands getting on the surface before you pour and stick better (maybe that is being too particular, but just an idea!) Very interesting product!!

A severe allergy to uv resin had made me look for other options for my polymer pieces. I actually had a bottle of the dimension and a few pieces are drying as I write this, i did have to “drag” off some bubbles. I was pleasantly surprised how the doming is similar to the resin but, without the blistered fingers! Great video, thank you.

If you lightly sand, wipe the surface, you can give it extra coats. The bubbles that popped will fill in. Don’t stress so much about small bubbles if you cannot pop them with cocktail stick during drying time or use a BBQ lighter to encourage them to the surface. Personally I recommend triple thick product and work in layers, sanding and wiping in between completely dry coats. If you want it extra shiny, sanding with extra fine paper will do this. If you have any yo hand, a single coat of water based floor varnish will keep your project rock hard and protected for years. P.s. use triple coat with a clean damp brush snd don’t apply too thick.

Thanks for your review. I have had mixed results with different bottles. Perhaps it had aged but with some bottles of the stuff the surface really yellowed after only a few weeks, while others were fine. Applied to projects on the same day and in the same drying conditions and on the same wood tiles, so the variance seems to have been in the bottle I used. I had better results on mine working from the center outwards to prevent dipping in the middle. The surface is not as even as resin and not as hard. Ok for home projects but not on products to sell.

Use triple thick with a damp brush, dry well, sand lightly, wipe either damp cloth and apply a second coat. Repeat as necessary. I usually finish with a coat of water based floor varnish! Used on door knobs and they’ve held up over ten years of regular handling. Recommend littlefairs varnish if you’re in U.K.

Problem with multiple layers is they can peel apart and I’ve found with mod-podge products; if they get too thick they dry with a kind of blue tint to the coating that never fully clears out or sometimes, never fully dries. There’s just not the same hard, high gloss sheen with MP that there is with UV resin. It would be good if someone with experience with both products did a side by side comparison.

A spritz of rubbing alcohol in a small spray bottle helps clear those bubbles too! As for too many bubbles, squeezing adds to this, sometimes pushing enough of the product onto the art, and then using the nozzle to push the product around, instead of continuing to squeeze it out, helps minimize those bubbles.

Not to keep banging the UV drum, but I get the feeling there’s some misconceptions about UV resins, maybe lack of experience. There are UV resins that don’t have strong odors and some are more economical. Not sponsored at all, but Let’s Resin has an excellent line of UV resins. They don’t smell, are easy to work with, don't necessarily require special equipment (sunshine works fine), and can be more economical than what’s sold at the box stores.

You avoid air bubbles by keeping the bottle more vertical when applying and squeezing out a good dollop in the center of the project and using a silicon brush or toothpick or whatever you have in hand to pull the mod pudge out towards the edges. This will introduce less air than moving the nozzle all around the surface and tilting the bottle too much. Hope this helps!

I never used this stuff but I have used many types of resin. Sometimes it helps to use layers to get your doming. I'd also try popping bubbles by stabbing the bubbles with a pin instead of dragging them. Depending how it's made you could try spraying rubbing alcohol to pop bubbles in a lil spray bottle. As far as uv resin I use let's resin. I have not smelled any bad fumes or scents from it in general or by curing. I highly recommend that brand n their new double sided blue uv light. It cost less than my printer lol. Ive had other brands of UV resin in the past smell, not cure right, or even just smell fumey from curing like burnt plastic. Even the expensive Sophie and toffee boxes I had problems with their resin but let's resin uv resin made me love uv resin. In case anyone was interested. This mod podge stuff looks more like water down Elmer's glue and I bet you could get the same results. Maybe you can reuse the bottle. I have a paper glue with a similar bottle n it dries clear. Perhaps this is just more hype with a watered down product. I think we could compare it to a few other products like watered down glue or even watered down regular mod podge. I do like the doming effect though. Thnx for sharing!

I used it as a finishing seal on polymer clay. The stuff you bake around 200. When you take it out of the heat. I use my finger on the main focal point. To apply the clear product. You have to work fast because it gets crumbly. Because the polymer clay is cooling down when you apply the product. It sometimes prevents the concave problem. Don't put too much product on. Thin finishing sealing coat is best.

I haven't worked with that stuff myself personally. But I have done pouring, I found with air bubbles (if I think it looks good I keep it but if no) I just run a lighter over the bubbles and let the flame take out the air. I hope it works with that one (I figure cause its non- toxic it will be safe. Resin I think some tap the mold or project to release the air bubbles and then again some with move a ligher over the project but thats also if you feel comfortable to do so.

As for resin - the only kind I have ever used is uv resin that literally only takes 2-3 minutes to cure fully. I made these colored frog figurines for my daughter's friends for the holidays last year and they loved them. They were really big too! The specific kind I used though honestly didn't have any harsh odor or anything, which was amazing. Thank you so much for the video and the honest opinion of this product!!

I’ve used this a few times & as for personal use only, quite happy with the results. For 1 a 3D sort of item, I had applied over a “pendant” I made with a sticker (not 3D) & a wooden letter (3D) both glued to a wooden circle much like ones you used. Another 2 I used with metal pendant bases that have a lip to accommodate a cover. I found the Dimensional Magic spreads out on its own & have always started in the middle. Definitely less bubbling when I ensure no air is reintroduced into the bottle. I have wondered about applying a second layer as I had been aiming for a more domed effect to mimic a glass cover especially with the two metal pendant bases. Inside of those I had used semi 3D stickers that were “enamel” plastic ones - I think in light of that, not being flat, did create a bit of uneven coverage but as I was also aiming to protect & keep these from falling out, I am quite ok with the results. I have a glitter Dimensional Magic that I haven’t tried yet but hope too soon. Thank you for sharing your experience & opinion on this product. I’m have the same reasons for not wanting to venture into resin.

Interesting new product thanks for showcasing it! Those divots to me suggest the product must be shrinking a little as it dries. I could be wrong but that's the impression I got. The packing tape idea is great but I do wonder if this means ultimately the only adherence the project has relies on the effectiveness of how sticky the tape is. Have you tried the resin-like techiques for removing bubbles? quickly popping a lighter/torch/flame over the surface is great for getting bubbles out of resin. I also know spritzing isopropyl alcohol over resin gets out surface bubbles and it occurs to me that rather than spritzing a full piece one could just dab your needle into the I-Alcohol and touch to the bubble. Just some thoughts. Thanks again for the great video :)

I tried this Mod Podge in pendant bezels but I had the same problem with the dips in the middle. I bet you could use the same principle to handmade cards giving a 3 dimensional effect to embellishments.

@OurUpcycledLife I did! Thank you!! Especially because I have been searching for resin replacement for the last 3 days, and you post this video sharing your experience. Perfect timing!! I'm a little disappointed by the results. I was really hoping for a perfect replacement 🤭 LOL

I made several keychains and topped them off with this stuff. They began to turn yellow over a couple months. I wasn’t sure how to fix that? But wanted to share what I found in using this product.

Watching a resin artist, the bubbles pop with a flame or isopropyl alcohol spray. She pick them out. Yes they will dip in but she domes it.

I’m wondering how long clear packing tape will last. I have some things stored in boxes in my attic (which can get fairly cold or hot.) After a while, the tape turns yellow, gets brittle, and pulls away from the boxes. Some of that tape is several years or even decades old. Maybe newer tape is made to last or certain brands are more permanent and won’t turn yellow or get brittle over time. Does anyone know if certain brands are guaranteed to last?

I know that with resin you can use a lighter to get rid of the air bubbles by just passing the flame across the top of the resin and the heat pops the bubbles. Not sure if you can do that with Dimensional Magic.
