Mod Podge Spray | Trying out 3 Acrylic Sealers on Mandalas | Rock Painting

Holy smokes! Must watch! One of theses sealers could totally be mistaken as Resin!!! In this video I make 3 very similar blue mandalas. Then I take them outside and spray on Mod Podge Acrylic Sealers so we can all see what they do. I have Mod Podge Clear Acrylic Sealer : Gloss, Matte, and Super HI-Shine! They were all under $10 each. Weird observation: The gloss can did not have that metal ball inside and the other 2 did. Weird right? Either a glitch or it just didn't need it.
I got these three sealers at my local Walmart store along with my grocery pic up, lol. I was super impressed with the results. I will admit, since you can see in the video, my spray painting skills are not on point, lol. However, with a little practice and the proper surface these sealers are the bomb.
After I spray them in the video I bring the whole poster board in the house to sit on my desk overnight. Within minutes I found myself taking them out to the wood shop because the smell was just too much. I wore a mask while spraying so I didn't notice as much until I brought them in. It was really strong. That's a big drawback for me. Also, I didn't like that you had to wait 24 hours to touch them. Because really it was 24 hours, flip, spray, 24 hours again. With my Resin it's like 24 hours is very done on both sides. I just can't help but try to find a Resin alternative for all of those that are so scared of resin. The results of one of these would definitely pass for resin in my opinion. If you use these please read the entire bottle/s and follow all safety precautions.

****DESCRIPTION UPDATE*****
I have had many reports about Mod Podge getting tacky when left outdoors. I've also heard that it can become milky or cloudy and it's mostly due to high moisture. I do not know if these particular Mod Podge sealants are the culprit but just be aware and do your own research. It truly would stink for you to pour all your love into a rock and seal it with something that won't last.

It's so simple and what a gorgeous set to display on your coffee table or even on a dinner table spread.. just coordinate the colors with your decor and you've got a fancy set of side pieces for all your guests to wow over! Or... you could give 2 to your 2 besties like the kiddos do with their BFF necklaces. LOL... grown up friendship rocks.. boom, just made that up! LOL! Just started following you and am learning so much. I have the apple barrel paint. Do you put medium in every time you dot? Or is the consistency good by itself. Thanks

I almost never mix anything in them. It’s like after awhile you learn which color needs what. Like white, china blue, cameo pink, and other very light colors tend to crack when dotted.. so a medium to make it dry slower will help. When using black with my fine liner I will thin with water even though it’s already so thin lol. You can always make up a code like W for water, G for gel, M for medium, etc and write what each paint needs on its lid so you only make mistakes once. Lol… it took me forever to figure out why my dots were cracking. Lol. Now I just know what does what and use them in the right places so I don’t have to mix 😂😂😂

@@MtGRebel oh… nope these are great. I use the matte on my paintings and it dries s fast. These rocks were not sticky or tacky either but I don’t remember the dry time on them.

Thank you for the content: What type of brushes are used to apply the paint? What is the difference between the "Super High Shine" and "Gloss" sprays?

Hi Southpaw 🤗 I listed all the supplies in the description. I used flat brushes for the base paint and dotting tools and acrylic rods for the mandalas. All in description. The difference between the sprays is just the level of shine. Matte has just a bit of shine.. my favorite to seal my canvas. Gloss is shiny shiny.. then super hi has a resin wet look to it! I loved it on my rock. I still like resin the best but these are awesome alternatives. Hope this helps.

I have the pink sealer, but it came out kind of bumpy/stringy. Did that happen to you too?

Not at all. I used it for the first time in this video at 7:45 time stamp in video. I haven’t used it since but I do remember this was my favorite of the three. Let me run grab it and try it now. Maybe yours was on the store shelf too long or something… brb

It’s been 9 months since I used it last and it worked great just now. I sprayed the top of an old table on my back patio and no problem. Maybe try shaking yours a ton or looking up how to clean nozzle or sending it back to the store for a replacement 👍🏻

@@JaDeLRocks thank you so much for checking! That's so sweet. It looks like it's drying clear enough- fortunately it was on a cup for my sister so not a huge deal if it's not perfect. It does have a bit of a texture to it which I wasn't expecting. 🤔 could be user error - I might have sprayed too much, too closely!

Lol, they say light coats is key but ughhhh it takes so much patience 😂😂😂…. If ya ever need anything just holler. If I can help I totally will. That old table needed some shine anyhow 😂😂😂 good luck
