I don’t think Ronbus is lying. For some reason, they aren’t getting the test results back. Trust me, they want those results so they can release it if the number passes!

I hope so. But my reasoning is that the paddles keep not passing so they are delaying saying they haven’t received the numbers back. However, this could be another situation where the USAP tries to walk back a decision like the Joola Gen 3 situation. I just personally think the paddle has been changed enough to where they can’t submit this paddle as a similarity paddle and have to go through recertification again.

@ we can talk offline, but Dong has always been very transparent. He submitted the newer one to make sure it passes pbcore. Had to make changes because the other one kept getting a loose edgeguard and core crush.

That doesn’t happen with many paddles. Something is going on and a lot of manufacturers have been talking. Wanted to share my thoughts and what I have been hearing.

The pickleball governing body cannot be PPA. There has to be an entity above all organizations. PPA, MLP, APP, etc.

Completely agree. I like that there’s competition that’s making USAP improve, but USAP needs to win this battle. Or we need to see the UPA-A split off from the PPA/MLP

In my mind based on the rules the updated Ripple changed enough things to where I think it will need to be resubmitted. If he is able to tweak the paddle and have it pass that’s great. I just have some major concerns if it’s possible. I am rooting for Ronbus though.

@@JJPickleball here's the content in the USAP email before the listed paddles: Paddle Certification Updates USA Pickleball is dedicated to preserving the sport’s equity and accessibility for players of all skill levels and varying abilities. To ensure consistency and maintain the integrity of the sport, we’ve introduced an enhanced testing standard, PBCoR (Paddle/Ball Coefficient of Restitution) in Q4 of 2024, to objectively measure paddle performance and limit the "trampoline effect." The trampoline effect on pickleball paddles refers to the phenomenon where the surface of a paddle deforms and then rapidly returns to its original shape upon contact with the ball, effectively "springing" the ball off the paddle. This effect can amplify the ball's speed and force beyond what is typical for normal play. In pickleball, excessive trampoline effect can compromise the integrity of the sport by reducing the emphasis on finesse, control, and skill, giving players an unfair advantage. USA Pickleball regulates this characteristic by setting limits, such as through the Paddle/Ball Coefficient of Restitution (PBCoR) standard, to ensure fair play and maintain the sport’s competitive balance.

I am in Vietnam right now and last week I went to the event in Da Nang where Quang Doung was using a Proton paddle. I think it was a prototype or the series 4. Not sure.

I just know the head of UPA-A said they tested a mod ta 15 at Worlds and it failed miserably, and USAP’s redefined standards sound to be having issues for some of the top power paddles. The Integra I would assume may fall into that, but I’ve seen some weird results on deflection for different paddles. The shorter face may cause it to be fine. I can’t confirm anything on the Integra as of now.

🤬 I bought the Mod TA 14mm over the 3S precisely because of the USAP stamp. I lucked out in that I got one without any QC or core crushing/corruption issues even after 3 months. I *_do not_* want to go paddle shopping again especially at the cost of another $200+

I've said with mr Duc, father of Quang Duong, He said Quang only use Proton only for this event because Proton sponsored this his tour in Vietnam. And Quang Duong's gonna have his own signature Selkirk paddle next year (maybe 008) so mr Duc guarranteed Quang Duong still stick with Selkirk.

The Gen 3s has always been allowed to be used at PPA events. The UPA-A is owned by PPA which is who approved it. Next year you will be able to use the 3s in non PPA tournaments. Assuming you don’t have to get a new one with the dual stamp. Which that may be a mess and we will have to wait and see how they handle that.

But, USAPA is derelict on providing a PBCoR letter of certification? The 3rd party testing facility is providing results, not the certification. In this environment would you put millions of dollars worth of product out there without a letter of certification? Ronbus for example got bit by having their approved R1 Ripple (16mm) delisted less than a week before release. Product was already in the warehouse. Reason? Paddle might not pass a possible future requirement that didn’t exist. For a paddle already approved as-is. I wouldn’t release squat without that letter and complete assurance they aren’t going to screw you over again.

@@BA-PBXCI completely agree and this is a very plausible take. My issue is the testing reports I have seen from the companies that have got them….is the full approval. I’m wondering if the timing of the new recertification and the addition of the pb core testing is throwing off companies from getting their results. Both companies that have received their results submitted beginning of this month. The other situation I fear is plausible is the original ripple was approved. It then was told it had to remove the waves as that shouldn’t have passed originally according to USAP’s rules. They then had to resubmit under the stricter regulations and are now not passing/fearful of not passing. The other issue and I’m not saying Ronbus would do this but the industry as a whole can’t submit a diffenrt paddle for approval vs what they release anymore. The reason is USAP is x-raying paddles to have a photo on file. So companies that may have used that to just get approved if they were close can’t do that anymore thanks to Joola this year. There’s a lot up in the air, but the beta release of the ripple has been larger than most normal releases and they had the usap stamp on them. Something odd is going on behind the scenes and it’s either on USAP’s side, Ronbus’s side, or a bit of both.

You mentioned that when the GB Pro Power first came out someone using it beat Ben Johns. It was Chris Hayworth but he was NOT using the Pro Power it was the Pro Control which is not nearly as powerful as the Pro Power

The rumor from brands and behind the scenes is that with USAP changing their limits and adding tests that in April the Propower will no longer meet the testing requirements for their approval list. Again this is not confirmed, but based on some new paddles that have not been passing I am fairly confident the speculation is true. The Gearbox Ultimate I have heard nothing about.

Whatta mess!! Glad I'm a "Rec Only" player. Looking forward to hit my OM EVO (concept) against those MODs and 3s's since I get barked at for an "illegal" paddle. Hoping the new CRBN "tru-foam" is not a disaster. Looking forward to the new pairings for 2025. Love my "PIVOTS" Played with maybe 6 other brands. Been curious how the "counterfeit" paddles from TEMU play. i.e. the RUBY, MOD TA's for a fraction of the cost.

The CRBN’s shouldn’t be an issue. I have them and they are solid. They aren’t crazy power paddles. Lastly, some of the temu paddles are plenty good for rec play. Couple players at my local club elected to go that route and love them.

It's crazy that Selkirk is letting pro pickleball slip away. Catherine should move on ASAP. When you are making 60 mil plus a year and don't want to pay your pros, something has got to give. I will say, Selkirk pulling out of sponsorship territory with PPA may be the death of the company

I bought 2 Elongated Gearbox Pro Power paddle and I think as long as the Elongated Gearbox Pro Power paddle has been out that paddle should be grandfathered in. Not delisted. So what happens to those who bought the Elongated Gearbox Pro Power paddle? Are they suppose to just throw away a great paddle just because you choose to delist it. what a bunch of crap. what a bunch of cry babies and I am 66.

If true and the USAP rumor is true. It will Lilly be able to be exchanged for some credit, or since it has been so long nothing may happen. Paddle has been out for over a year. Anyone can use anything in rec play, but this obviously will affect tournaments. Sports make adjustments. Golf is scaling back the golf ball, bats in baseball have changed, and strings in tennis have changed.
