Your booth looked amazing! So nice you got a corner spot. Busy markets can be hectic trying to keep track of sales with paper and pen or square. I finally decided to tag all my items individually. Which takes some time initially. On one side of the tag is the price and on the other side is a code that tells me the brand and color of yarn I used to make the item and what the item was. Ex: PC-CLB/LTB-SAX would be a small axolotl made with parfait chunky in classic blue and light blue. Then every time I sell an item I just remove the tag (I used small safety pins to attach the tags to the items) and put it in a container. At the end of the market, I add up all the prices on the tags to get my sales. I also use the tags to know what to remake. Once the item is remade, I attach the tag and it's ready for the next market. I don't have to write down my sales or count my inventory post-market. It's a simple system that works well for me so far.

Finally was able to watch your video! Wow I’d be jumping with joy if I sold over $600 in one market!! Well done. After our last market we went through and renamed the inventory in square to make it easier to find!!

It will probably take a few markets but we will figure out the best way to use that square system. I was excited and at the same time irritated with myself for missing putting in the items I thought I was doing so good 😂. I think my setup was very busy and I have a few ideas that might make it more appealing. Hopefully I can do it for Dec 2nd.

Wow! All of your work is beautiful! You did have A LOT out and it looked beautiful but it may be a little overwhelming to look at. My first market I only sold about $400 worth of product, but I didn't make any profit because of how much I had spent setting up my business and buying supplies and fees and things. But it was still encouraging because people did give me so many compliments on my work and some did still buy. I've kept going and it has been so worth it.

Everything was adorable and well priced in my opinion from what I could see. I used to do craft fairs, and when it’s slow, it seems to attract more slow, and the personal momentum goes way down. It is really good if you can have somebody with you. I used to put people in front of my table because it attracts other customers. People want things more when they know other people want them. Another trick I used to use was to have some kind of hard candy they had to unwrap. Once they unwrap that candy, they feel more obligated to you. As far as everyone touching everything, that would drive me nuts also. Maybe you can just have your squish things out to sample touch and explain you like everyone to leave with a nice clean purchase. Anyone who looks halfway interested ask if they would like to feel the sample . Maybe you can have some handy wipes? Personally, I would be happy to clean my hands when I’m at a fair. Last, asking in advance about the other vendors is always a good thing. Then you can decide if you think it’s worth the effort. I wonder how you did on the ninth? Good luck to you. I realize you didn’t ask for tips, but those are things that helped me a lot.

If you can get power at your site you can use the Square Terminal and a barcode scanner to scan items in as you sell them. This does mean you would have to make tags with barcodes on them of course which would take time to set up.

Hey there. Touching is how I make between 600~1,200 an event. I let them all touch them, & have multiple handsanitizers around. Your prices are right on trend for my area (suburban/ semi rural indy) so I am gonna say your priced correctly. Many ppl say don’t put it all out, ignore them. Ppl want to see it all, and make decisions based on what they see. I have also learned ppl like big eyes, no mouths unless the mouth is giving them an expression.

Congratulations on your first craft fair. I also had my first one on November 16th, and although I’m not on the chenille/no sew/plushies trend because I prefer to work with sport or worsted weight yarn, and use more intricate patterns, it went great. My best sellers were Christmas related figures. It is interesting how the markets work differently in different places.
@KnottingHookCrochet Жыл бұрын
Thanks Claudia! I like the amigurumi out of the other yarn too love some of the detail you get with it. It just hurts my hands to do it. The chenille was the next best option for me. I still use the acrylic on some items just can't do a lot of them. No sew is nice but my plushies that sew patterns sold much better.

I have been sitting on pins and needles to hear how your market went! I am so glad you did so well! Better that I did on my two day market this weekend. It was a looker market vs a buyer market. My next one is my best market so I have a ton to make. You did so amazing. I cringe too when people are just touching and touching. I keep wet wipes to wipe them down and then after market I put them in a small tent made of blankets with a ozone machine to sanitize and remove smells. Youll get a routine down, figure out what is best for managing your inventory and all that. I just completed my 20th this year and I am still making tweaks here and there. Just three more markets this year and then on break till feburary.

Did Toby take your hooks? One of my cats will drag off anything that’s in a plastic bag. Glad to hear your first market went well. Not sure if this will help with your Square, but I tag all of my items and I give each type a number. I write that number along with the price on the tag. On the square I then add the description and under sku I put the inventory number. When you sell your item you just need to type the number into square and it pops right up. I was having the same issue as you at my first few markets, not remembering what I called something. Another thing that really helps me is my tool box. I purchased a cheap tool box from Walmart and I put everything I can possibly need at a market. Pen,paper, tape, hooks, scissors, string, square, battery, extra tags, business cards etc. After a few markets you’ll have everything at the point where you won’t need to even think about what you’re taking.

I'm in Florida. Start with easy patterns and build up from there. A few years ago I only did things like blankets and scarf here and there mostly blankets. Most of these are projects you can finish in a few hours or less and for me it makes it more fun.

You're correct with the touching. Maybe you can have them clear plastic?
@KnottingHookCrochet Жыл бұрын
That would be a lot of plastic!

What is the square system. The Robin was really cute.

Square is a credit card processor the many people use to be able to accept credit cards.

@@KnottingHookCrochet I'm in the UK, that's why I didn't know, thank you for explaining. Your goods are beautiful and price is a bargain.

I would put those into plastic bags of some kind. I just sold at 3 craft shows for the first time in 25 years. One disappointment for me was my most expensive fee was in an extremely wealthy area-I did make twice the fee but thought it would go better. Booth location and competition are important. When you compete with 150 vendors it’s tough.
@KnottingHookCrochet Жыл бұрын
You need a huge crowd for that many vendors! Wealthy people are usually the cheapest people especially if they didn’t work their way there.

Congrats on the market! I'm scared to go to markets because prep kinda scares me but also people lol. Do you have the pattern for the butter toast with legs at 15:09? It's absolutely adorable!!!

Not bad for your first market. The fee for the space was cheap! Here it's 200!

How do you credit the pattern designers? Do you add a little note on a tag, or put a little sign on your table? Curious cause I’m trying to figure out how I want to do that when I start selling.
@KnottingHookCrochet Жыл бұрын
That’s a good question. If anyone asks I tell them but a sign listing all the designers you showcase would be a good idea

I also have a market on Dec 9th. I still have left overs Xmas stuff from last year. They are not selling too good in my area. I think I won't make more because I don't want to be stuck with it
@KnottingHookCrochet Жыл бұрын
I think the only thing I'm making is the deer. The other stuff I have. I'm hoping they sell because I don't want them hanging around for a year either.

I see some things i would love! Do you have an online store??
@KnottingHookCrochet Жыл бұрын
I haven't taken that leap yet. But, you could email me and I can either invoice you through Pay Pal or make a listing in my Etsy pattern shop. knottinghookcrochet@gmail.com

Love your makes! I ‘need’ one of those cats! Do you sell on Etsy?
@KnottingHookCrochet Жыл бұрын
I have a pattern shop haven’t listed plushies yet but they lm thinking about it. If you would like I can set up a listing for you. I just need to know which cat and what color you would like.
@janetschiffman31 Жыл бұрын
Would worsted weight yarn do for plushies? I find the plush yarn too slippery to use.
@KnottingHookCrochet Жыл бұрын
Yes and the worsted weight shows detail better. They just come out much smaller.

Congrats on a great market! Rarely does anyone include costs of materials like you did in their market recap and so their “profit “ is a bit skewed! Hope your second is even better! I thought your prices were quite conservative! You’ll always have people say your prices are too high! And I don’t understand why people always have to voice it to you! Were they hoping you’d say oh ok, I’ll drop the price down for you! 😂😂
@KnottingHookCrochet Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Some people, but I guess you never know until you ask 🤣the seller might be desperate for a sale!
