They had to hastily cram their computer in their car and drive to a different location; there are amazing case mods done all the time that would shatter if mishandled. Also, all you have to do is re-fill the tiki torch and canister. No biggie.

+LouisAndPillz Speaking about reliability.... Fire should not be included in a reliable computer for obvious reasons. Some people are afraid to OC because it could cause your house to destroy your computer and potentially burn your house down, now add 2 tikki torches and a gas tank... I usually spill 1 drop or 2 while refilling Tikki torches around the pool, 1 drop and your computer can catch fire, especially with burlap on the computer. Do I really need to explain this?

something that really annoyed me with the way you guys filmed this is I wanted to see better the finished builds but you never actually did any B-roll or showcased what they actually looked like, in fact most the shots of the completed builds were incidental to the judges, I already know what the judges look like, I can see them on super fun whenever I want. What I would have loved to see was some better close up shots in b-roll of what the judges were talking about.

Turned out that there was no power going to the cpu fan header so the board had a safety feature that shutdown the system before the processor could overheat. Running a supply to the header would give a reading of power usage on that header... So it worked.

@VodkaHellstorm respectfully, I have to agree, for a couple reasons The brown was just kinda an ugly shade the pistons were absolutely pointless, what are they supposed to be doing like that, they are just ugly the pulley was also kinda unnecessary but it atleast looks like it could have some functionality The fire was kinda cool but unnecessary and dangerous, fitting for the theme though Can't say much about the interior unfortunately But overall I just like Linus and bobs pc more, it was cleaner, and just more elegant in appearance

Really wish the turnout was different at the end. The contest was half mod, and half power. Luke's PC was no slouch in power, and is utterly INSANE in the modding aspect. By all accounts, I feel like it should have beat the crap out of Linus' PC, which didn't even include a mod. I mean, Linus had a top-tier modder, a huge budget, and the same amount of time as Luke, and yet spent more than the bulk of his time and money on hardware alone, to the point where his PC wasn't even modded. I feel like Luke understood the contest a lot better, because it seemed like he gave his team member all the time and money he needed to create a PC you would actually see at a show/LAN party/etc, while still having really decent specs. When you mod a PC, it's like modding a car. You don't make a modded PC you'd give to your grandma to look at facebook on, nor would you give it to your kid to game on. You make a modded PC to show off, and even if it's dangerous, that's all the better, because that makes it cooler. Would you go to a car show where all the cars look like mustangs on the outside, or would you go to a car show that had crazy shit like banana boats and ratwheels and Bugattis?

Welp... I think team Luke should win, though. The gave more to esthetics and the looks of this build and the LTT had real modders to help them out in this series - specifically to do something fith the looks. I thought that they will focus more on modding the builds instead of actual OC crap. Linus, as usual, focused more on parts and performance rather than on the looks, despite the fact of having such skilled modder at his side. Anyway, I liked the new format of this - longer episodes are more fun to watch.

+CalamityBaird Hence why they absolutely crushed in the aesthetic department, it wasn't even a contest. 16 point disparity was one hell of a lead to overcome from raw performance, but the entire contest was 2 pronged. In a way this is the best possible outcome, the teams went in different directions with their builds and the excelled in the areas that they focused on the most. I haven't done it nor do I plan on it, but I feel like it's a safe bet to say if we took all the footage from the 2 groups and looked at the percentage spend on aesthetics vs. hardware you'd see a correlation in the score they ultimately got at the end in each category.

I'm really disappointed that there was no detailed footage of the final builds. They kept talking about the Mad Max machine's cables being sleeved in hose, but we never saw it because there was no sexy b-roll to show them off. We never really saw much of the insides at all. You just skipped right from building to judging without actually showing the finished product. 4 weeks of watching them build these to not even know what they look like. *Facepalm* That's really my only complaint though. Otherwise this was an awesome season and I LOVED the longer episode format.

+RC Codes The scoring works that the higher benchmark of the two machines equals 10 points, and the other one gets less points proportional to how much lower their benchmark result was. This system has been in place I for every scrapyard wars so far (i think, don't quote me on that though please) and I think it does work ok.

You have to remember that they're building gaming PCs here, not modern art sculptures, meaning you're going to need good specs to match the case design. I'd sooner have a build that runs like a beast and looks like shit than the other way around.

That "did I carry the team or what?" comment really bugged me. If I was a modder I don't think I'd want to work with Linus on a project like this. I felt like he just took over the whole project for the team. Honestly, in looking at the finished project why did he even need an experienced modder at all? He's done more complex custom work by himself in the past. Luke on the other hand, actually worked as a team and their finished product clearly shows it.On this series as a whole, it'd be great to see some more unique builds not seen anywhere else. Just an example, why not go to a metal working shop and build your own case out of scrap metal? Come to think of it, that probably would have looked way better for a Mad Max build, and likely would have been cheaper too.

Agree 100%...think Linus kept Rob from showing exactly what he could do. Think we would have seen a much better system had Linus taken $600 of the budget and did the PC, then let rob take $300 and do the case how he wanted. End of the day linus is "tech savvy" but not very creative. But still thought they had the better system. Just think more could have been done with $900.

@LinusTechTips should've had more pictures/video of the actual computers, both inside and around. When the judges were talking about cable-management, you guys should've had closeups showing off what they were talking about. Other than that, 10/10, I absolutely LOVE the Scrapyard Wars and the quality of the content you guys produce. Discovered this channel yesterday, been watching it for about 8 hours straight now. i think the aesthetics should matter more than the hardware for a modding challenge.. Team Luke definitely won this, Linus spent almost all the budget on hardware, where Luke spent more of his budget on the actual mod, which was what the challenge was supposed to be.

I completely agree. There wasn't even a theme for Linus's build. They said they were gonna go for like a victory/racing theme, but they didn't even add the stripes they said they were going to add. They didn't take any risks, and took the easy win. Luke's team went insane. They were all about looking for aesthetics for their build the whole time, while Linus was looking for hardware the whole time.

+Josue Orozco exactly, they didn't even remove the front piece of on the top of their case they talked about doing, or the racing stripes on the back one, which was supposed to run down the side of the case. It looked just like a store bought PC.. the modding score should have been heavily weighted over the performance score.. because all this does is promote them using the entire budget in the future in search of the best hardware. I think they should create a straw poll or something in the future, and let the viewers judge and decide the winner

+spider0804 I dunno. He let the creativity come from Bob 100% and they didn't really even had an idea. They went with the abstract concept of "Victory" and the case was going be a "Trophy". They play it too safe and made a machine that anyone would be happy with. While Luke's team just went as far out as they could. It was really a case of pimp my ride(but without the function) vs clean and functional.

Oh people, quit whining in the comments and let's talk about the video already:3 I think Luke's team should've won. Ever since the first episode when he said they'll do a Mad Max themed computer, I knew that would be an instant victory. Sure, Linus's PC runs better as expected, but the outside is pretty bland and basic for a gaming rig. Although I do have to agree that none should ever put anything flaming in a PC like Luke's, but as how creative it is, it's awesome. Something got me a bit curious after seeing Linus's finished build. Weren't he and the other guy talk about painting some stripes on the computer? To make it look like a racing car? Did they forget what theme they were after? If they would've done that, And perhaps add some huge speakers inside or on the case and had some music playing booming with bass, and perhaps if the lights would sync with the bass like a freaking tuned car driving on a street, now that would've been something I'd look forward to.

If Linus and Bob actually committed to their "victory" theme like they said earlier, they could have gone with racing stripes or painting a trophy on the side or even just hot gluing like a Pinewood Derby trophy they found on Craigslist, they could have had a better shot at the theme points. Or, even better, gone with a blue base coat with white racing stripes as an homage to the Shelby Cobra. Or if they were to commit to "clean" they could have gone with some kind of cleaning product theme like Abraxo from the Fallout games instead of just a better coat of silver paint with a little bit of blue over the top of the old silver.

linus made his team mate look bad cuz he wanted to spend all the money on what ever he wants (the parts, which help them out at the end) and didn't leave anything for bob to have input on. luke and rod worked as a team. luke got half the money and worked on his part the inside and rod got half the money and worked on the outside. luke and rod build was decent on the inside and good on the outside linus and bob build was good on the inside and plane on the out side on that luke and rod should of won. its good episode tho
