And the "Definitive Parkour Mod" is one of the best I've seen for Assassin's Creed. Giving players more control and freedom in parkour for Assassin's Creed 1 through Assassin's Creed Revelations and even adding new features not present in the vanilla versions of the games!

Thank you so much, not only for putting this mod under the spotlight it deserves, but for also doing it so absolutely right. You have no idea how much I appreciate the effort you put into properly explaining it, contextualizing it, and showing the importance of the volatile feature safeguard. (I may or may not have been pushing for its addition lol) On top of that, you beautifully contextualized the mod as something that improves a parkour system that already sat on top, and somehow makes it even better - steering clear of the impression that people who have not yet gotten to experience just how deep these games get mechanically could get, potentially thinking that the mod is in any way an old school AC "Fixes". Some parkour moves made possible by these mods like the flip, the quick catch ledge ejects, actually makes the parkour look more in line with Prince of persia. Sands of time, warrior withing etc. had some crazy and flashy parkour movesets which were dialed down a little in Assassin's creed, for realism I suppose

Can only dream of Ubi providing this kind of care and attention to free-running in the modern games. Parkour is such a starved and neglected core pillar of these games. Watch dogs 2 was slept on as a whole but one thing I really loved was parkour wasn’t more complex than AC. But it was stylish and most important. Flowed perfectly. Where vanilla assassins stumble and pause or get stuck Marcus Holloway was lighting fast.

I don't know what MODs already exist, but these are the MODs I really want to exist: AC 1 & 2: Toggle on the maps that adds/removes the flags/feathers AC Brotherhood: Return Shop Investments post-server shutdown. Also more of a patch but make it so Desmond can stand up out of the animus after the Subject 17 scene, instead of glitch out like crazy during the cutscene with Lucy. AC Revelation: Let you send your assassins to that one place on that map that requires multiplayer. AC 3: Ambient music during open-world traversal Kenway Saga: Separate running and free running like the earlier games All post-Rogue games: Hidden blade combat, existing/reliable ledge grab, manual jumping, manual back & side ejects. AC Syndicate: Let you jump off roofs. Return the Sherlock Holmes costume that disappeared without a trace. All RPGs: Gives player choice to remove all RPG aspects -- remove leveling up, area level gating (could reintroduce Animus invisible walls to compensate), the zillions of weapons and armor, etc. AC Odyssey: Canon version. Removes all choices and just lets you play the game the way it "actually happened". Or even better lets you choose right at the beginning what you're role playing is going to be -- which ending, gender, sexual preference -- and eliminates all choices that don't match that role play. AC Valhalla: 40-hour version. Just cut the 300+ hours of fat so I can actually experience the story. Could make 90% of the game side content if retained, but just don't have it inhibit progression. AC Shadows: Alternate Genders/Races for both characters to increase player choice. (Probably would be impossible because of the voice acting. Btw, Yasuke's voice actor sounds legit based off the game footage we've seen so far, but I found our resident shinobi to be a bit... snarky Marvel cringe-y? I need more footage to find out if she's always like that.)

love the parkour mods. been wanting to replay older AC games and will definitely be replaying them with these mods. modders do wonders for so many games i can't imagine ever replaying any game i played before without doing a modded playthrough. makes it so much more fun, adds detail and gameplay, quests and characters and makes the worlds feel and look different.

5:10 This for me is actually the biggest improvement of the entire mod... I always remember AC 2 and Brotherhood fondly when I play something like Unity, and I always think to myself what In those game do I find annoying when It comes to parkour, and I cant think of it... until I play them again and realise and it is this fucking tripping... I always forget how much it breaks the flow of the parkour line and slows the movement down, not tripping when doing diagonal jumps now will feel incredible.

If there's one mod I'll always get when I play an assassin's creed game on pc, its the aquila outfit in AC3 just because the version you get, isn't the version from the naval stuff. You get shoes instead of boots, the coat tails are one thing, arm cuff is huge, and all straps are white instead of brown. The mod swaps the open world version with the naval version and absolutely looks so much better.

5:37, quick ledge pull up can be done with the hook blade if you catch a ledge that Ezio's feet will also touch and tap b for the hook blade before you catch the ledge, he does a faster climb up than if you just catch normally without the blade, UNLESS the ledge he is catching will be one he is hanging from and his feet dont touch anything, then he will be way slower if you use the hookblade to climb up than if you just catch and climb up with your hands. This only works though if ezio would auto catch the ledge from an eject for you assuming its not a jump that could only be made BY using catch ledge with the hookblade

Obviously a huge ask, band you probably don't know, but are their any plans to add this to any of the games after Revelations but before Origin, cuz that's when Ubisoft really started stripping down the parkour but it was still there and the Tree Parkour from 3 is neat, but I'd love the Depth from the Ezio Trilogy in later games, but it's probably just completely impossible for the RPGs compared to whatever the games before origin are classified as

What most people don’t realize about mods is that at the creators are working with systems that at the time had hard limits on what could be done and are now adding things that were on newer better systems. It’s not that the people at Ubi are lazy, it’s that the modders are working with the benefit of hindsight

To my understanding this is not true on a technical level, and i think you're missing the point on a philosophical level. Everything you see in the mods is pulled from within the games themselves. All the animations and moves you see in the modded version already exist inside the games as they were, the mods just give you full access to use them at your discretion. And this isn't a "old school parkour bad let's make it good" sort of situation. The people that made these mods whole heartedly believe that the ac1-rev parkour system is the best ubisoft has ever made. This mod serves to unlock it's full potential and give us even more of the freedom that the classic games do better than any others.

What Ropo said. The mod was made by people who loved and recognized the old schools as the peak of movement, and wished to port features into it regardless of whether they existed in other games or not. This is shown by the fact that the mod allows for more controlled and consistent triggering of just about anything that the games later on could do (and far, far more) to a degree those could only dream of. As Ropo also pointed out, the mod works by poking into memory and making direct changes to values or instruction skips (along other very raw manipulation - there's no other way), that the modders managed to extract functionality out of without even knowing a single literal name of any of these functions to begin with (they are insane). What the mod does is a showcase of what these games have always been capable of, as it doesn't add any content into them whatsoever. The "hard limits" are artificial.

at 5:28 that stumble can be avoided by letting go of legs and then tapping to manually jump at the trajectory early in cases in the base game, but too early and you go into a hang, idk i thought it was fine in the original for the most part

it just doesnt have the janky buff to how high you can go up with it, in ac1 its more for lateral movement than vertical. but fun to cross over crowds of people in alley ways by foot planting left to right to left to right on handholds just right abovee their heads. And they are NSO's too so you have to time tapping the legs button to hop as if you just hold it down like when parkouring on beams, altair just drops

I refuse to agree that the older AC games had the best parkour system. Even with Bugs the fluidity of climbing and roaming in AC Unity is unmatched. Ezio’s parkour was so jank

unity's parkour is nothing but jank and inconsistencies with a sprinkle of appealing animations, the first four games do have jank as well but you can remove almost all of it if you play how you're supposed to. the same can't be said about unity check leo k's guide on how to get started on enjoying the classic parkour if you want the truth, although that guide only gives you the basic first steps it does a pretty good job at that

@@matex_e Yeah, I can’t relate, I replayed all of the assassin creed games 2 years ago, the original parkour system was barely appealing animations and Jank parkour, which is exactly why people are making full animations and new features to make the parkour seem viable. You know that vaulting feature? Unity actually felt like you were flying through everything with a climb. It’s probably youre nostalgia speaking, but those games did not have the parkour Unity had. Unity’s major downfall was the glitching breaking you across the map, or bugging out a mission, or the story mode. No AC 2 & 3 Have a multitude of ignorant parkour systems and inconsistencies, especially 3. You play Unity how it’s meant to be played and the difference is clear.

That doesn't make it wrong to have your favorite be one from another title. My favorite was Unity as well, until this mod came out and made the old ones just deep enough to win me over.

It continues to pain me to see how often modders do a better job than developers creating or refining things in games. Makes me think you guys should be getting the millions of dollars instead of the devs. I mean, look at how vastly superior modders have made an already awesome parkour system from over a decade ago meanwhile the devs today with modern technology and an unlimited budget can't even get a overly basic glorified climbing system to work right without stuttering and being little more than basic automated climb up/down that can't hold a candle to even the vanilla parkour from back then in terms of gameplay and control. Even their best attempt in the more recent games, Unity, was mostly style over substance, when it worked. And when you pulled off something cool it felt like it was in spite of the system, like you're constantly fighting the game and won.

Devs making millions of dollars? Devs are the ones on the end of the stick that only suffers rs Companies make millions. Devs gets way less and work in a crunch environment that only f4ck them up. Modders do a hell of a job, but they are improving over something that exist, not building from scratch, and do not have a manager to force tô deliver as fast as possible

@@sarimsalman2698 The difference is the devs have complete control over the product with a massive amount of money and resources behind it and do this as a profession. Moders are some dude in his bedroom with a moderately high end pc who works for free to fix the game after he already put in his 8 hours. I'm not saying the devs do nothing, some of them work their asses off, but I think you have to acknowledge also some of these games these days are pretty low effort and/or half-baked.

Alot of the things this mod gives is some of unitys mechanics (swing of of anything,super jump,etc.)which shows we only needed more control and everything was gonna be perfect A blend of unitys mechanics and ac1-rev mechanics,more control,some of unitys flare and they have made the best parkour in history Not just of assassins creed

Is there a swimming mod for AC1 and an underwater swimming mod for AC2, Brotherhood and Revelations which Ezio can swim like Byek, Kassandra, and Eivor. There is a swimming mod for GTA 3 and Vice City as well as an underwater swimming mod for GTA IV.

Been trying it out on AC1 and some things don't seem to work. Plus all the guides I've found are for Ezio games and they don't seem to match up with the AC1 version of the mod. AC1 is my favourite and I love it with or without the mod but it would be nice to have it fully working

I was introduced properly to the series thanks to Black Flag and Rogue, decided to try the older games and stuck with AC2, it always felt weird doing parkour in both, the kenway saga has ground parkour movements, dropping down and more features, besides faster upward climb, but lack the input control that AC2 gives, at the same time, those kenway specific features I always feel the lack of in AC2 I feel like I can now play parkour properly with Ezio, sorry edward

If a ledge on a wall looks "thick" enough to where you can start a wallrun - go for it. Otherwise it's janky, yes. Hence why it's a safeguarded feature. Also, it's used primarily for landing on the poles used for swinging, so you can use them as traditional beam objects(to an extend).

Off-topic: Sometimes I think about how incredible an AC2 remake in the style of AC Unity would be. Imagine Italian cities at a 1:1 scale with explorable interiors, the same fluidity and variation of movement but with a better control scheme, well-made mocap scenes, and black box missions for infiltration and assassination. How amazing this series could have been if AC Unity hadn't been so poorly received and that vision wasn't just abandoned.
