My girlfriend and I love riding along with you two and your doggos. You're funny and goofy at times, but you're also doing a very valuable service for people in general. You're enabling people to see how painless and actually desirable it is to drive an EV in everyday life and because you two are so normal and relatable people actually want to watch an hour-long plus video. Thanks for all the vids so far and I hope you keep them coming☮

Living in the UK it's fascinating to see a journey, which by European standards is almost unimaginable in distance! Nine years ago I drove from London via the Channel Tunnel to the Northern Italian lakes, which I think was around 800 miles which to me seemed a distance of epic proportions. Your video diary of this trip makes for almost compulsive viewing with undoubtedly your four legged passengers becoming the stars of the show! In fact given your dog's unabated enthusiasm, in particular the black one, perhaps with the aid of the auto pilot feature you can elicit his help with some of the driving. I think that video would absolutely guarantee unprecedented viewing numbers!!! 😃 Meantime I eagerly await the next installment...

European countries are small, but the whole of the EU is pretty big. If you wanted to have a long-distance European roadtrip, you could do Lisbon to Tallinn for instance, which is comparable to NY to LA in distance, about 2700 mi.

I have a 4 hour UK trip coming up taking us from the middle of the UK to the coast and for us that is a trip of grand proportions…. Even though it will only require 1 supercharge, if that! So these videos are awesome to watch, i am jealous of the travel opportunities you have across the pond in the US!

Tesla does really have an impressive charging network .. that is the key ingredient a lot of other electric companies are missing.

It’s got it’s ups and downs.. While most of the cars can manage a good chunk of the USA network just fine, there’s more than a few spots in the great southwest (and in the north as you saw) that can get VERY hairy.

Only if you have a Tesla. But I'm not impressed by proprietary networks, so from my perspective they are the worst. They won't charge any other kind of electric car. This is bad for electric cars in general.
@Re5ist_ance
@Re5ist_ance 4 жыл бұрын
@@duotronicnone4572 You do understand why though, right? Can you imagine the experience for Telsa owners if they opened it up to every electric car? Telsa chargers would be crazy busy all the time .. for 2 reasons .. they are located in very many places in the US and the world and they charge at a high level. I also believe that they are open to other electric car companies using their network if they paid for it (which is only fair) - www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/tesla-elon-musk-open-supercharger-network/

This! I can’t imagine even considering another electric car anywhere in Tesla’s price range. They don’t have as good of a range on top of not having super chargers!

Strongly disagree, in Europe and Asian Tesla uses CCS so the handles don't overheat and no adapters needed to use the out of network DC fast chargers.

Welcome to North Dakota ! My wife and I are residents from Wahpeton, ND (just south of Fargo.) I've been watching your youtube channel for some time now, as I have an interest in EV's and would like our next car purchase to be an EV. I think we could replace one of our two ICE vehicles and not experience any real pain from it. Thank you very much for educating me over the past year or so. I do have one request. If you ever find yourself looking for something new to try with your Model 3, come to North Dakota in January. We typically get 2 or 3 weeks a year of -20° F to -40° F weather. Even ICE vehicles experience some unique challenges in this weather. I would be very curious to see the battery related issues with this quantified and demonstrated. You may need to time your trip around the weather report to get up here during cold weather, but would make for a very interesting and educational youtube video. In our particular case we have a heated garage, so we would only be effected when the car is left outside. The only cold weather demonstrations that I have seen on youtube have been at +20° F or +30° F. The colder temperatures in January and February are a different animal. In any event, I am glad to see that TESLA has finally installed some supercharging locations in ND. Hopefully they will get Minot, Devils Lake, and some other cities covered in the near future. I would also really like to see them locate a service center in Fargo. Right now, one negative is that we would need to travel to Minneapolis for any service not covered by the mobile service trucks. Thanks again for all of that you have done to educate us about EV's ! Aaron Riebe

Got to tell you right now! I'm so excited to find this video! I'm a TESLA fan who can't afford a Tesla Y YET. But I travel and camp in my 2006 RAV4 with my 15 year old toy poodle. Great vehicle. But now that I see this can be comfortably done in a M3 with a Yakima box I'm rethinking. My other big issue was I didn't want to be trapped on the Interstate. So you've shown me it can be done on back roads!! THANK YOU! I'm on the third video of the day. I watched while cooking up a yummy Stroganoff! I love how you two just set off with no real game plan as to where you will be staying. I'm curious about your real time planning strategy on these trips. Does one of you spend time looking up campgrounds/hotels on the route path while the other is driving? Also thanks for the atlas obscura tip. I've had a hard time trying to come up with fun road trips. So what is different in the 'Kyle w/Dogs' profile - no Easy Entry? Wow, that Table Rock Lake campsite was just awesome. I can't believe you had that all to yourselves. Love that Springfield supercharger with trashcan, windshield washer, and 10% off, that's so awesome. 55:06 Nice quick change Alyssa! *Roofbox Energy Saving Potential:* There were rumors that a roofbox mounted backwards can save fuel. Or electric energy, depending on the vehicle. A german car magazine tested it and they found out that this is correct. Has something to do with the aerodynamics of these boxes. Of course, not all of them are the same, but they tried three different boxes and the result was similar for all three of them. So it may sound stupid, even look stupid, but perhaps you want to try. Especially when driving an EV with limited range.

@pvman2 4 жыл бұрын
@@rosmarin2438 Maybe, that's kind of how the v2 Superchargers work, except the split isn't 50/50. Instead, it favors the person who was there first. It's like 70/30 and slow rebalances as the first person's car becomes more charged and starts its normal taper downward. The second driver tapers up, but how far depends on how much their state of charge, the temp of their batteries, ambient, and, as we have now learned, the temperature of the handle/cable of the EVSE (Supercharger station). However, I don't know the specifics of the actual ratio of the v2 split. Let's say, 2 M3 show up with identical characteristics with a 2% state of charge. Once the first one ramps up to full current, how much will it fall when the second M3 plugs in? What is the algorithm as charging continues?

At 1 hour and 3 minutes in the video I love how Allyssa rolls her eyes at Kyle’s comment about it being perfect arriving in Fargo with a 2 percent state of charge 😂. I’m going to watch this video with my wife so I can convince her to do a loop around the USA in our Mach E. Bless you both.

Your comment about the eTron...here’s the thing...I don’t need a roof box for my road trips and still have tons of room. Also, my efficiency (while not the best in EVs) doesn’t really change based on cargo, # of passengers, weather, etc. Just purchased a bike rack for the trailer hitch and a ski rack for the roof. Haven’t done long distance with those yet, but again, don;’t really expect a huge difference. While I’m very Jelly the # of chargers available to my Tesla friends, the CCS fast chargers are water cooled so they don’t need wet rags to keep their charging speed.

its always interesting coming back to videos like these and comparing to how far things have come in not even two years! This road trip done today would be so much different thanks to V3 superchargers being much more widespread, and in way better locations. For the last leg of the trip when you guys were going from sioux falls to fargo, you had to stretch all those 4 hours, 250ish miles due to there being no charging in-between at all. It forced you to charge alllll the way to 100% taking over an hour. Now in June 2022, theres a V3 supercharger halfway between in Watertown, SD. This takes an hour long charge and nailbiting driving 20mph under the speed limit to pull in with just 1%, to 2, 15 min stops in sioux falls and Watertown while being able to drive normally. Not only does this save you a half hour of charging, it also saves probably about an hour of driving due to going 80mph vs 60.

I love Waze. Pure driver's navigation. Sometimes fun to compare Waze, Google Maps, and Apple Maps. Waze is definitely best for driving followed closely by Google Maps (figures sice they are both now owned by Google). Apple Maps is a distant third for me for many reasons. Would be great if Tesla could either integrate with Waze or offer Android Auto/Apple Carplay in addition to the onboad navigation.

Fair amount of time spent dealing with hot supercharger handles. You may mention that by doubling the voltage you can half the current and thus cooler cables and handles for 800v vehicles like the Porsche Taycan. Do love your camping setup, looks like lots of fun.

That stretch with no supercharges from Sioux Falls to Fargo, yikes. Tesla needs to ads a SC in between, esp for winter driving out that way. And then when I saw the 80 MPH speed limit and you had to go 60 :(

I would guess Tesla battery capacity will increase, pretty soon, to the point where the extra Supercharger become moot. It won't help existing Teslas.

Looking at the charger map, since your 2020 leg from Sioux Falls to Fargo, they’ve added a v3 at Watertown SD and have another at Sisseton SD set to open later in 2022.
