I recently did a trip from Raleigh to Charleston in my 2022 M3P. My spouse didn’t want to stop to charge but the dealership was 283 miles away. I made it with 16 miles of charge left and used only 66 KWh. I have 11% degradation from all of the Drag racing I have done with it but I can still get 300 miles on a charge with it. Crazy that I am averaging 264 Wh/mi over 21k miles with a car that has run 11.17 @ 120.0 mph in the 1/4 mile.

27:45 - The worst part about the Flagler EA location is when you roll into it at 11:15pm on a road trip, only to find that the gas station across the street closed at 11pm, and you have to go down the highway to the next truck stop to use the bathroom. And evidently there are now solar canopies at this location, but not upgraded dispensers.

On the note of hotel chargers...I wish the major hotel chains would realize that installing chargers at hotels would do a much better job of attracting EV drivers if one could actually plan a trip that depends on being able to get a full charge overnight. This is especially true when the hotel is located away from the interstate highway, deep in the middle of a charging desert, where the hotel charger might be the only charger around for a long way, and the nearest DC fast charger, over 100 miles away. Once you have to arrive at the hotel with extra energy just in case the hotel charger is down/occupied, the value of the hotel charger to the driver diminishes greatly.

I just wish Tesla would move to 800v charging. We've been road tripping our EV6 over the summer. We travelled to the beach a couple times, about 650 miles each way. It was the same trip each time so we learned the best and most reliable chargers. I used all 350kw EA chargers and our average stops were 12 minutes to continue our trip. There is a huge difference between 12 and 30 minutes when you have 3-4 stops. Using higher voltage and lower amperage makes sense to me. It seems the higher the voltage and the lower the amps, the less heat is generated in the battery. The public charging scene just sucks, we were lucky that our particular route was perfect. With Tesla having such a good charging network, if you got your cars down to 15 minute charging sessions, that would be insane.

I've been watching Tesla install a new 12-stall location across from my office building. On Monday workers dug a trench at the Circle-K on Thomassville Rd/I-10 in Tallahassee FL. Tuesday and Wednesday they ran pipes/conduits. Thursday a flatbed truck and a crane showed up. The crane lowered a pair of 6-stall blocks onto the trench. Today they hooked everything up including the transformer. I suspect there's not much left to do aside from city inspection. Tesla has this down to a science.

Kyle, have you ever removed the AC condenser for cleaning? Your M3P is a few years old, done a good amount of miles and would probably benefit from having all the crud, leaves and bugs that gets trapped between the condenser and radiator. You can expect far better AC performance and cooling as well as fans not having to spin up so much. 👍🏻

I drove from Orlando to Colorado Springs a few months ago - taking the southern route (Florida Panhandle, Mobile, Louisiana, Dallas, Amarillo, Clayton, then up I-25. Easy trip as long as you aren't in a super rush. I really like the supercharger in Limon - the only issue is the higher speed chargers aren't well labeled - you just have to know based on the thickness of the cables which chargers are which.

For v2 vs v3, I use the labels. If you see something other than A or B, that group is v3. I'm sure I would eventually get a feel for the thickness of the cables. In July, a group of us took a trip in their new MYLR. We only had to wait for the car once in 4 days, and then only because we wanted to avoid charging in our destination city. I consider a reduced rate better than nothing.

I live in Europe, and if I hadn't just gotten a Model Y in June, I would've definitely ordered the Model 3 Highland during the weeks just before the unveiling, when it was listet at _the old price,_ while the October delivery date revealed it would actually be _the new model._ NA Model 3 buyers should also try getting the new model for the old price, by waiting for a similar delivery date gap preceding an official launch. Waiting for Juniper is only for those who really don't need a new car right now, because that refresh could be years in the future for all we know.

We just completed a drive from Ohio to Colorado and back, around 2600 miles total. The latest software update seems to have some weird quirks for navigation routing to superchargers. We saw it was preferring 150kW when there were 250's just around the corner (basically). But that being said it was a very easy trip. This is the third with our 2021 Model 3 LR and it now has around 53K miles. Edit: Just saw Limon, we hit the charger there twice. Helped a few people to use the bank of 250's since they are never labeled. Edit2: Phantom braking was a major issue for us through Kansas, between 15-20 incidents with it.

Always enjoy the road trips. Thanks for taking out the M3. Took my 2018 LEMR to south Texas this year - no issues (had free SC miles to use). The only difference between my 'short range' car and my wife's long range would have been an extra quick stop on I-70 that hers could have skipped. But, as you say, short charging hops are quickest anyway and the LEMR small battery charges pretty quickly. Seems like we both missed the new V3 that has opened that helps to modernize that KS I-70 route.

Just starting to watch this video. Agree the Tesla Supercharger nav is getting very wonky. Only modification to my 22 Model 3 LR is that I put CC2s on the car and it has 52k miles now. On multiple trips it will start with 20-25% arrival and can fluctuate down to 4-5% arrival. I suspect that they are struggling with their algorithms now that there are so many more chargers and variations of the models (different packs, wheels, tires, etc.). My rough degregation is around 7% but I suspect it is less. Glad to see your 3 is still running at 126k.

@LearningFast
@LearningFast Жыл бұрын
To be fair there is a difference between the NACS port and the CSS1 port. The CCS1 connector is just so heavy and awkward. It is so hard to get it to connect fully. So many times I have thought it seated correctly but it didn’t. With NACS it is just so easy. The connector always slides in perfectly and seats fully every single time. Some connection issues will be solved simply by switching to NACS.

The Full Service Rest Stops were more common when I was a kid and road tripping every summer on family vacations. They seemed to die out in the later 80s & 90s. Which is a shame, because they're so much more convenient than getting off the highway, finding a gas/charge station, and then finding food somewhere. I think the Full Service Rest Stops will make a huge comeback when EV's become more popular over the next 5-10 years. Also, on a side note, the Phantom Braking has become SO bad lately. It's always been bad, but has really amped up the frequency in my '19 M3P. I recently moved to Southern Central CO (Alamosa/Ft Garland area), and Highway 160 between Alamosa and Ft G is quite possibly THE worst road I've driven on for phantom braking. I had to do the drive yesterday, and I had at least a dozen instances of phantom braking over a 30 mile trip. It was insane.

I've been binge watching all of your's and Bearded Tesla Guy's road trip videos, because I'm anticipating getting a Tesla of my own in the next 6 months and doing one of these myself. Other than a run-in with a Honda BTG experienced in AZ on one of his trips, I don't see a whole lot of indications of people irrationally raging at Tesla drivers in these videos. Do you ever have to deal with that lately?

I've never seen any bad interactions with other drivers in my Model Y. For the most part, I wouldn't worry about it either.

I’m on a road trip from Seattle to the East Coast with my Ioniq 5. I’m driving I90 through Montana, Wyoming and am currently in South Dakota. Every single Electrify America along this route has been flawless. The only issue with EA is that the Butte station is charging 63 cents per kWH. All others were normal price. There were a couple of spots along this route where I had to use slower ChargePoint units, to fill gaps, they worked perfectly too. I think you are being a bit to hard on CCS. We are on a six week Road trip going to all the hard spots, the Dakotas both North and South. Going north to Montreal. Coming down through New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine. Coming through your area around the third week in October.

Would love a segment summarizing Run on Less, especially a comparison of how Tesla did against the other trucks.

Great video, I'm considering getting MPP suspension for my 18 LR AWD with 79k since the suspension is hard as rocks right now and really detracts from driving enjoyment.

CCS/ EA in NC on the 95 corridor is trash 🗑. If it wasn’t for you and Brandon making some of us aware of Circle K chargers I would have been screwed coming through NC. One more incident away from trading my EV for a Model S! Plus the monthly rate for EA has increased to $7 monthly with the same issues.
