Very few people will appreciate how much work it must have been to edit all of this together. Road trip videos are already challenging to put together, but having so many different video sources and crossing time zones is whole different level of challenging. I’m glad you made this to counter MKBHD’s fairly poorly done comparison of Tesla and CCS charging infrastructure and to help show people that you don’t need a Tesla to road trip an EV.

seriously. when i got my tesla i had to ride the train almost 3.5 hours away because that was the closest delivery center. on my way back the car programmed in a charging stop, which as we got going i realized i didnt actually need i would have still made it to my destination with like 15% left. but just because i never used their superchargers i figured it would be cool. when i was about 50 miles away from the super charger i realized the range didnt matter all that much because now i had to fucking pee. which means i needed to stop more often than the car did. i held it till i got to the supercharger. plugged it in and almost ran into the store it was parked next to to use the bathroom. im sure i looked absolutely ridiculous to the other teslas sitting there.

May I just tell you... I watch WAY more YT content per week than I should.... I used to have a substantial social media presence back in the early days of FB/Insta etc.... but I'm now retired. This is WAY, by far, some of the best content I've seen/enjoyed in a seriously long time..... the host of this show is IMO the perfect mix of nerd/geek/funny/interesting. I'm thoroughly enjoying your other reviews and channels too. I love the innovation and the tech associated with these new/emerging vehicles...... however from a Macro perspective, I am NOT a fan of the associated geopolitics and environment/ethical lies by omission in respect of the humanitarian costs of the batteries etc. "Lies by omission" meaning the 'stuff' we're not told about the mining etc of the components of the batteries and the human/environmental cost associated with it. I FULLY agree we need a sustainable alternative to diesel/petrol and electric and even hydrogen are possibilities..... NGOs such as WEF and others are accelerating the need/justification for electric cars, but I think a lot more has to be done to address the underlying environmental issues surrounding the efficacy of the batteries and the recycling of them plus the recycling of the cars themselves. (Rant over) But in the main, this video and others are excellent - well done 👍

Love this content keep it up! As great as the tacan speed is, that electrify America payment and charging system looks like a joke. Imagine someone who’s unfamiliar with EVs trying to simply charge. They would be trading the car in after that debacle. Really shows how far superior and advanced the Tesla network is. It simply just works and I love mine. I've done 46 supercharger stops and 35 CCS charges over the past 4.5yr and only one time had an issue, at a supercharger in NY and all I had to do was move stalls. I will give credit to Out of Spec for that success though. This is where I learned the tricks, which is why I'm confused that every one of them weren't activating charges before plugging in. Although, it shows how the simplicity of the supercharger network is it's true strength over the competition

It wont, the Fed is throwing billions at the problem. In a couple of years the J1772 DC network will dwarf Teslas. In fact Tesla is well on its way to get rid of its particular connector. It's already done so in a few EU countries which have required it to do so.

Presumably there will be a mix: more and more cars using these chargers makes the business case for more to be built. And larger charging stations are more efficient in cost per charger. On the other hand it will mean some crowded stations on holidays.

Haven't read all comments yet and it's surely been said before: It seems you mostly arrived at the charging stations with more than 20% SOC and charged up to 100% before moving on. That costs you about an hour on your trip. The fastest charging happens between 0-20% SOC. (you hardly ever did that) The slowest charging happens between 80-100% SOC. (you mostly did that) Move your usable 80% gap down a notch or two and you will road trip way faster. Same range, more charging speed. Awesome video - makes me wanna road trip again :) [edit] Just watched Pt. 2 and it seems you did ride it out then a lot more.

He mentioned that each car will make about 3 or 4 stops. A lot of people will look at that as a negative of EVs… that you have to stop that many times. BUT according to National Highway Safety, every 3 to 4 hours of driving requires a 45 minute rest stop to prevent driver fatigue/drowsiness. It is actually dangerous too drive to long. An EV actually forces drivers to rest frequently on long road trips

Sad story: Tesla bid on a contract in Texas this year to build out a reliable general charging network, at a *FIFTH* of the cost vs the others (~$30k vs ~$150k iirc) but the officials went with the more expensive option that will probably make chargers as reliable as those seen in this video. Boggles the mind, but oh well, politicians gotta get their kickbacks I guess.

Very nice, makes me wonder what a plaid model 3 performance would be like. Since the plaid uses the same 3&y motors, just modified with c.f. rotors. Ad 4680s in the structural pack and the single piece castings, track mode&track pack standard, maybe air suspension finally. That could be a serious monster in its own right. 🤔

Use the plaid motors, sell a rwd 350 or so hp model for only 45k with a few options like track pack available. Put real performance seats in it then offer an awd version with 600+hp for 55k.
