Model A Coupe with a Tank Engine - 1650 Cubic Inch V12

This crazy Kiwi has put a V12 Meteor engine into a Model A coupe. The whole thing sits on a F-truck chassis and has a 16/71 supercharger on top to provide boost.

well tank engines were not know for power, just reliability a 5 second search would tell you that they were know to be detuned for reliability. so making more power from them was a DUH moment

@@chaztitan6457 Tank engines aren't known for RPM that's for sure. The torque is there especially if it's a diesel V12. But when the car is so light compared to what the engine is originally designed to move, it doesn't utilize that torque.

I used to work with both the Rolls Royce and Allison V-12 engines, we were lucky enough to have all of the original service manuals issued from WWII and they were all stamped "Classified". The amount of technology in those engines from 80 years ago is still impressive, dual overhead cams, 4 valves per cylinder, sodium filled valves. We utilized both turbos and superchargers over the years along with nitrous and alcohol injection and ran them on both methanol and aviation fuel. They used to be plentiful but now they are getting harder and harder to find ones that are workable.

The meteor engine sounds fantastic, someone tried to start one up at a airshow and people wanted to stand right up against it when they tried to start it. It started with a bang and all the front row people where now fleeing in terror, they though it would sound like a Honda or something.

These were Rolls Royce Merlins like the one that powered the Spitfire and Mustang that didn’t meet quality control standards to be put in aircraft. Rather than being scrapped, they were made into the Meteor engine which powered tanks in a highly derated form (about 600-700 HP instead of 1300-1500 HP).

Na Merlin's had a 2 speed supercharger cast in to the block basically the same motor minus the block. The Merlin was said to be the last piston plane motor before the turbine jet engine. Last model Merlin made close to 3000hp
