Model a Realistic Farm Scene: Modular N Scale Layout Part 5

In this video, I finish up building a farm module for the modular N Scale layout. Key features are a dirt road and some barbed wire fencing. This module is built on a T-Track module with the Kato Unitrack in the standard arrangement for T-Track modules of that size.

I'm starting my build. Do I build a wood table then lay some type of foam on it to start the actual build? I'm confused

So you don’t need a foam base and can build right on a wood base if you want. The main advantage of having a foam layers is if you want to have areas dip below the main surface for creeks, ponds, etc. It is of course easier to cut away the foam than the wood. The wood provides stability under the foam, but if you use a thick foam layer, like 2” or more, you don’t need that much wood for support.

This is the only one that was really fully sceniced. The others just have some static grass on them. I used it at a train show once to display structures for sale and such and to have some additional trains running.

Thanks, I'm not sure of any like that already built up, but it is possible Woodland Scenics has a built up barn structure as part of their line of ready built structures. I don't know fur sure though.

Great job,your a master of small layouts,I have same issue limited space, love to see what you could do with a 4ft x 15 inch footprint n scale that would be a great little portable layout

Oh, I actually plan to build one in that size. I have a 4' by 15" t-track module kit I plan to turn into a self contained layout eventually. Not sure when I will get to that project though.
