Great old kit ! I remember building it when it first came out !t. As far as the crank shaft showing, back in the old days show cars were displayed on top of a mirrored base to show off their under side detail. This was done so you did not have to get on your hands and knee to get a look ! Still a great looking show car. Nice clean build !

I understand how being 'show' cars they would want to display as much as they could but I did not think they would go so far as opening up an engine to expose those internals as well. I'm curious to know if any other model builders left it exposed. I have seen a few model diorama's replicating garages and mechanics working on car engines but that's about it. Thanks for watching!

Hi Dario, I've used the same acrylic paints through my airbrush often, and if you mix it 1:1 with windex, you'll have the perfect consistency to spray those beautiful paints nicely, then you can cover them with a coat of acrylic clear for an ultra shine...or even a coat of clear floor polish, happy styrene-bashing!!

Back in the mid 60s I had the pleasure of meeting Ed Roth at a Custom Car Show in Des Moines Iowa and he signed my Beatnik Bandit model I built. It was one of my finest days of my youth!!

I saw that car for real back in the day. Ed Roth was at a car show in Providence RI (1962) with the Beatnik Bandit and the Outlaw. I talked with him and bought a kit of the Challenger from him (that was Revell was just getting into 1/25th scale). He was a genuinely nice guy. Driving home from work 35 years later I saw him again driving south on Route 95 in Cranston RI. He was driving a VW Rabbit pick-up, towing a trailer with a big Rat Fink painted on the back. I beeped the horn and waived as I passed him - same smile. I wonder how many people on the road that day even knew who he was - I'm glad I did.

Great job. My dad grew up with Ed and they hung out a lot building a few cars. I have 12 original art pieces framed in my model shop. I have built this and painted the body silver and candy blue over it to mimic the Hot Wheels spectraflame paint scheme. I display it with my redline 1:64 Beatnik Bandits.

The extra parts are for a different kit that shares some of ths sprues. There is a lot of detail in the engine, too bad most is covered up. Glad to see you had success with the decals, the build looks great. For applying the glitter paint it's best to brush it on. Nice work on the magazine. 😄

I thought those 'extra' parts may be for something like that. I know there are other kits that 'share sprue' but in those cases it was for very similar looking cars and there is nothing that is even close to this Beatnik which is why I was surprised.

Really cool car, I think I might have this in my stash and those decals make me a bit nervous. They could curl up like crazy so I plan to paint it a solid color. The extra parts are nice and that engine was meant for a separate display.

I would be brave and I mean extremely brave I would have airbrushed all the gold designs on their in a light metal flake just flavored up a little bit more but the decals I think in the paint job in the style is what makes his car that's definitely a beauty

As I explained in the video, the metal flake paint that I tried is what clogged my airbrush. I have since bought another airbrush with a 0.5mm aperture as an option, but I'd still be hesitant to try unless I was sure it would not clog even that larger opening. If you have had success painting flakes please let me know exactly what paint it was and the size of airbrush. Thanks for watching.

@@dariosmodelbuilds yeah it's always tricky when trying to do metal flakes always trying to experiment with different things from rattle cans and I'm just learning how to fine-tune and use an airbrush after not using one LOL I know we all can learn smart fellow brothers and sisters out there in a modeling community I like this build though that was nice

The kit looks great. Tip about the craft paint. You have to thin with water. About 50/50 or like skim milk. The craft paint works better over a primer. If you spray the model and you don't like the paint job you can wash it off under running water.. Clean the clogged airbrush with water.

The model was primed and the paint was thinned with water (more than 50% water since this was a thicker paint). Even added a drop of flow improver. The problem is that this particular paint had little shinny flecks of reflective material and that is what got stuck in the tip of the airbrush. I even got an ultrasonic cleaner that did an amazing job cleaning all the other parts of the airbrush but I can't seem to get the flecks blocking the small aperture in the removable tip. No biggie since I have others to use. Thanks for looking.

I would paint my model with white w/silver pearl Toyota auto touch-up spray cans. The decals were supposed to represent the candy orange fogged scallops/panels and look like a nightmare to put on. I usually do not 'enjoy' building Revell model cars. Because of their unnecessarily small and delicate detail parts, they usually end up feeling more like a 'conquest' than anything else.

I was VERY lucky to have someone local who happened to have built the kit and at the same time built it without using the decals. Very, very lucky indeed.

The extra parts are for the Mysterian - which was another Ed Roth creation. Both kits shared common pieces. I built a Beatnik Bandit a couple of years ago that was missing several parts. Some of the cross members for the frame, one of the headlight buckets and some other miscellaneous parts. I did not like that single, center console steering device and fashioned a regular steering wheel and complete linkage on mine. I have another one in my stash - not sure if it will get built or not.

Thanks for solving the 'Mysterian' mystery. 😁. I was not crazy with that centred steering 'stick' either but I wanted to make it as accurate to the real deal as I could so I put it in there.
