I sculpt with it using water to just push it around more, I do all my carving after its dried completely. I paint and detail and then coat in epoxy for a hard shell in case a piece gets dropped. It helps a lot.

Thank you! I came in wanting to learn how to use model magic for a Day of the Dead mask and I am leaving with not only the knowledge of how I can do that but also your video has inspired other ideas I can use with it and that paint and paper towel trick! Does it stay squishy or does it harden? I’ve had mine drying for over a week and I can still squish it
@jasperjanderson2 жыл бұрын
Eventually it will harden. I typically will do the paper towel coats while it's still fairly soft, and it still hardens over time.

WTH, went to site to learn what to do with MM clay, but he's so dang gorgeous, I can't concentrate🤣🤣 Seriously, what talent - amazing and tips so helpful! If ya don't have plaster bandages, would plaster of paris work better with the paper towels?
@jasperjanderson8 ай бұрын
Haha! I wouldn’t recommend paper towels and plaster of Paris for this. Of the versions I’ve tried, the mask with a newspaper paper mache under layer is my favorite, and very easy to do.

Question, would it be possible to add Aleene's Tacky white glue to the Crayola clay to make it a little bit more flexible and still sandable? The reason I am asking is that I work with cosplay wearable helmets and I thought that building a substructure of strong card stock or cardboard and then coating it with thin sheets of the Crayola clay so that I could sand smooth and or sculpt details on the surface. I have sen this done with fiberglass and bondo but it is very toxic to do indoors in the winter.
@jasperjanderson5 жыл бұрын
The Model Magic clay is not really sandable to begin with, and it's not very strong on its own. Definitely not a substitute for fiberglass and bondo, but I'd be curious to see what happens if you mix in the tacky glue.

How on earth did you weld model magic? I have so many cracks in my sculpture
@jasperjanderson3 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's possible to weld it 100% and it always gets cracks, but it's all about considering how it will dry out. Sometimes you can sort of plan your blobs of clay so that the cracks will be in inconspicuous places, too.

Is there any good ways to waterproof it
@jasperjanderson Жыл бұрын
This method is fairly water resistant, but I wouldn’t get it wet on purpose. Sealing it as well as you can with a clear coat like the polycrylic does a pretty good job.
