You have an incredibly patient and steady hand. That is the art I love seeing in this hobby. I'm looks ng to do the same with similar locomotives. You've given me inspiration. Good luck!

First thing I thought when I saw the thumbnail is "that's not a Western Maryland paint scheme...". The second thing I thought was "oh sure you can make your own decals for HO..." Then you picked up the loco... 😂

I really enjoyed this video. I think I like the parts where you made mistakes the best, not because of them, but because you admitted making them. We are not perfect, and it is good to see that my errors match those who I look to for guidance and support. I imagine that you get better each time you do this. I like your mountain decal!

ya i thought about showing that but it was a bit windy that day and didn't want my lens to catch some spray. but definitely next time
@johnm83424 ай бұрын
Wind… I think that’s what caused the “bumps” you mentioned… it is likely the paint drying in the air before it adheres to the surface of the model, which is why it’s easy enough to remove. In other words paint should go on wet. Its better for the lungs to paint outside. Try repurposing a large cardboard box as a makeshift paint booth. Regardless, great video.

If memory serves, the round fans on top are for the radiators and the grills on the sides are air-intakes.

I'm glad to have stumbled over this in my You Tube feed. I had done a similar thing with my 15 N-scale locomotivrs - including, ironically, two Bachmann F9s. Used the isopropyl alcohol, toothbrush and a similar mount - and had my own railroad paint scheme (Testor's [Sky] blue) and my own round, dark yellow logo. The logos were a nice design, though a little clunky, but I did not spray the shells with primer. I used tiny office supply, Helvetica Bold, stenciling for the name, "Texas Central," emblazoned across the sides of the locomotives. I'd like to see how you did your logo and stenciling.

I used a Cricut machine to cut vinyl but it was too thick to look right at N scale. I'm in the process of changing the lettering and plan to print them out using decal paper.

Great video same technique I use on my HO Loco's and Stock minus the enamel paint. Shortly I'll be posting some videos on my restoration channel so you'll see how well Acrylics & an Airbrush really make this work easier and yield great results. Current;y I'm working on a custom scheme using Candy colors and it's really coming along great, hoping to have enough footage to start the channel with a good library started. Keep up the great work it's always fun to see what ideas people come up with while designing their own RR schemes.

If you want to completely take the paint off use alcohol of 80% or higher that gets the job done fast plus you would be better off using water based acrylic paint which is better than solvent based paint which ruins plastic that i use when i give my 'HO' model trains a paint job plus you should go to art supply stores that have wide variety of water based acrylic paints and lots of tools and supplies for your modeling needs.

Doesn’t that ruin the value of a model train? Should I paint my model train a different paint scheme? I think about painting my model Amtrak MTH train and Lionel NJT Train a different scheme but I think I shouldn’t. I’ve had the Amtrak one since 2004 and the NJT train since 2011.
@daguy8151 Жыл бұрын
Value is very subjective. I paint it because I want my own road name and color scheme therefore it increases its value for me. If you plan on reselling or trading then buying a unpainted or second hand shell for the loco will work just fine. I have recent loco as well that I purchased on sale and found some shells for road names I wanted later on.

How do you make your own decals ? I need a few made .
@daguy81519 ай бұрын
I have a Cricut machine. Probably best to use it for HO or larger scale. The smaller and finer detail decals I try to make the harder it is to have a smooth edge. Can also use a laser printer and decal transfer paper to do it too
