I'm a big fan of scratchbuilding using a variety of materials. Also a big fan of anything budget, DIY oriented. Going to be fun following along with your layout from the ground-up, so to speak. Best, John

Hey John, thank you for popping in. Just been on your channel and we are on similar paths although my layout will be UK based set in the 50's/60's. I always was a scratch builder for the scenery anyway so lets see how many of the skills I still have if any. Eye's ain't what they used to be you know. You have number of video's that already have caught my interest as I try to re-skill up.

Hey John, yes quite a break away but the time is right to return. I was definitely well into the modelling aspect of the craft and hope that some of the skills remain after all this time. We will see but excited to be back.

I also scratch build a lot, and like you I don't like flat paper printed structure. And the rare thing about these printed structures, when you see it on photo, it looks good, but once you see it for reel it's so flat an dull. I prefer the plastic structures, like Wills makes them, and it's also air moisture resistant, that's also a positive. Paper and cardboard can attract air moisture and start to wobble, that's always a big risk. of course direct sunlight is also not good, it will bleach the colors over time. But also the laser cut models now are quite good, depending what material they use. I had some very good cardboard structures from one brand, and an other, although the lasering and detailing was very good, the material was rubbish, it flaked while only looking at it. So if you plan to buy a lot of a brand, buy a sample first before putting up a big order. Another good and very cheap material is foam, there are some very good examples here on KZbin, have a look at it… Good luck with you build…

Hey @dannyvanstaelen3273, thank you for the information. Will take that on board and have a look at the Wills structures. Interesting what you say about the moisture aspect of cardboard I have never thought of that so will also take note. I think the plastic walls etc are the way to go for me as I return to the craft. Just popped on your channel excellent builds quite fantastic.
