Excellent work Richard. Definitely an inspirational effort. Really looking forward to it progress. An idea I saw some time ago at an exhibition, was to cut out a piece of card the same size as the floor area of the building. Then place pieces of furniture on the card, then to place the building on top of the card, therebye giving the impression of the building being furnished. This method looks even better with the inclusion of figures and lighting. Keep up the excellent work Richard. Kind regards. John

Another informative video Richard. Love the kerb stone system. Can I make a comment about the garage and the town houses. Nearly all the garages I have come across have a bit of land at the side for the scrap tyres, a bin for the metal scrap full of exhaust pipes etc and a space for a parked car or two, waiting for that spare part on it's way down from Dagenham. A week they said and its close on a week and a half already.. May bee move a town house up a bit for the garage space. Only an idea. Love your videos, don't stop. Barry. Devon.

OBowner Thanks Barry. I'm very short of space so can't really move the town houses. There is a space across the road I was going to use for customer cars and rubbish.

If that was a new-build estate in the 1970s, I would imagine that by the 1980s/1990s there wouldn't actually be a huge amount of variation in the houses, certainly not as much as today's housing. My house was built in 1968, in a estate where the doors were (I think) red, blue, green or yellow, in a repeating pattern. Supposedly, even for some time after the estate was built, it was still not the "done thing" to paint your door a different colour, and although gardens would be grown differently, unless something needed repairing, it would stay as it was built. I think a lot less would be spent on home-improvement back then, especially by new-owners. Obviously, as I was not around at the time, this may not be entirely representative of the time or the location you are modelling. :) You have an excellent layout and I think I may have been encouraged to get up and do something to mine for once. Perhaps a tow truck would look nice parked antisocially on the pavement outside that garage.
@EverardJunction10 жыл бұрын
***** I'll be adding some changes to the gardens and doors. All the windows and drains will stay the same as the houses may have only been about 15 years old by the time the layout is set.

Excellent work. I wish I had seen this before I built my village. I could have used some of your ideas. I noticed all a car were the same just before you said something about it and it gave me a start. The way you've laid the streets is perfect with the two curving away. You will be able to put the camera at the other end and look down the street and not see the wall. Nicely done. You can always paint the inside of the buildings black and put lights in them. That way you can avoid the pyroclastic look.

Looking good - those 70s houses really look the part. I'll be interested to see what you do with the Tyre / Exhaust centre as I'm going to be incorporating one into CC over the coming days. I had a red Fiesta & later on a Sierra too. I preferred the Fiesta on the basis that unlike the Sierra I never ended up sticking it in a ditch!!!!

***** My dad had a red Fiesta and a white Sierra. They were both good cars. Personally I prefer the Sierra as is RWD. I'm looking forward to messing around with the garage. I might butcher some cars to look as though they are being worked on.

Thank you for some great tips on how to get realistic looking scenes. The idea of making the Suburb scene removable to simplify construction is a really great tip, which I intend to use on my Victorian Railways town of Riddells Creek. How do you intend to hide the screws used to remove the module or will you remove hem once completed and installed? A comment on your back scene being painted light blue, I spent three years in the UK and noticed that the sky was usually grey with the occasional out break of blue clouds. Many thanks, Neil

Did you ever consider using thin wood sheets for things like pavement etc? Would have thought that once sealed with cellulose paint and sanded it would look as good and would possibly be less hassle than making dams to stop plaster spreading out. Plus you could cut out segments more easily than trying to modify a plaster structure. Looking good though, giving me plenty of ideas on how to fill in odd corners and maybe change the entire look. Been wondering what to do about a twin track 2% woodland scenic ramp at the rear of the layout. Might hide it behind an open topped hill and put a tunnel mouth at the bottom.
@EverardJunction10 жыл бұрын
DieyoungDiefast Thanks, i've used thick card for pavements before and it worked well. I just prefer the uneven concrete type look I get from the filler.

The low relief town houses look exactly like a lot of the new build developments around Birmingham from 2000 onwards. My wife and I have just sold ours and it was built in 2006. Will that fit with the era you are going for? I might be wrong, I didn't really notice houses when I was the age I was when Intercity and NSE were in use, but I wanted to let you know. On the whole though, it looks great, the detached houses with driveways looked excellent!
@EverardJunction10 жыл бұрын
AVFCAM The low relief town houses might be a little too late for the time period, probably late 90s/early 2000s. They are very similar to some I've seen in Milton Keynes. I choose them because I really like that style of house. A lick of paint might help to age them a little.
