Hey @Ballinalower, you are to kind. I must admit, but don't tell anyone else the backdrop looks better in photograph that real life. I reckon I could teach anyone to do it as in the end it is just a technique that you have to learn. I like to call it Tonalism painting but some refer to it as the Bob Ross style of painting. Thank you again appreciate your words of encouragment.

Always loved black and white photo's as to me they give off a better definition to replicate.

Hey Atholl, good to see you. Have to agree that I also like B&W photos. I grew up in a world of B&W where you had to make decsissions there and then to try to get a decent shot. No photoshop of digital delete and retake. I like to think it gave us and eye for the shot not that I ever caught that many good ones, to busy trying to get the lens cap off. lol

Hey Andy, yes always something new always. I have to say that I am very excited if not slightly daunted. But getting to design and print in 3D was one of the things I said that I would do once I returned to the hobby and discovered it amongst other wonderful things. So much has changed in 50 years since I last ran a loco. lol

Amazing Tony, I do agree with John SRV that painted backdrops so much better then photos, to me, if you have trees, bushes, mountains and/or cities in the foreground, then anything further in the back losses it’s distortion unless it’s in plain view. Beautiful steamer and sounds beautiful. I need to get a 3D printer and computer myself someday, it’ll definitely help me out with some things I’d like to get done. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Kyle, that was my thinking for the most part hence I thought that whatever I painted within reason would probably look ok as the layout itself is what should be important. The 3D printer was a long time coming but I can see lots of uses for it so watch this space once I have gotten to grips with it and the software.

Nice one, Anthony! It looks brilliant, and a gorgeous new loco with great cars. 3D won't take too long to sort out! Cheers!

Hey Anthony, thank you agree the new loco is just amazing. There will be a few B&W shots on the Community page tomorrow. As for 3D printing I am starting to sort things out. Already discovered that the room it is presently in is to cold. Going to be fun.

Great update Tony. Frankly speaking if I could fly you over to paint my backdrop, I would, I love how it blends together with your landscape so beautifully. That 9F is an absolute beast and the sound profile on it is magic! 🎉 thank you for the update and I love the branding! Keep it up T 😊

The layout's looking great Tony! I'm with you, I think a hand-painted backdrop works better with our model railroads than the photographic ones. Gorgeous new steamer. Have fun with the 3D printer. Definitely a bit of a learning curve, but very useful when you get it worked out.

Hey John, thank you glad you like the developments on the layout. I got the 3D printer with plans in mind but now realise that I have quite a lot to learn before I can design and use. Going to be fun though.

The backdrop was done with artistry, and I'd be proud to have it on my layout well done. Excellent acquisition with the 2-10-0 steam engine and can't wait to see the completion of the train station plus I hope the barge comes out of hiding, 😄. Great video and update, Jersey Bill
@ChobertonJunction5 күн бұрын
Hey @JerseyBill-x9r, thank you. The backdrop I hope when complete will blend in but nothing ventured nothing gained as they say. As for the barge, it was a classic case of a small tidy up and I have no idea where it went. I'm sure it will turn up though.

Here's a bit of steam engine trivia you might like to learn about. The Standard 9F engines were given the shrill Swindon whistle, and thus this Swindon whistle also belongs to a few other different types of steam engine. The Standard 4 tender and tank engines have the Swindon whistle, as do the engines who were built with it before them. By that I mean those of God's Wonderful Railway status. So, to cut a long story short, show me a GWR Manor hard at work, and I'll show you how much I truly love her. As for 3D printing, ask Sam's Trains to show you how 3D printers work. Sam is a 3D Printing Master, and would be only too happy to give you some tips.
@ChobertonJunction5 күн бұрын
Hey Kelly, now you mention it the whistle is quite shrill and I do like it. In a way it takes me back to my childhood with the sounds of the trains thundering past our little village. Marvellous. Great bit of trivia puts a bit more life into the 9F as I run it. I will look Sams Trains up for 3D printing tips thanks for the heads up on that.

A 9F? A FANTASTIC 9F!!! 🤓That makes it a perfect video right there Tony! Regarding your 3D print, I'm not super knowledgeable, but it looks like your layers are too wide. Could you try 0.2 possibly? Also did you include supports for the roof? 3D printers don't like spanning gaps. It's basically plastic spaghetti coming out of the nozzle until it cools and hardens (which it does quickly admittedly) but all overhanging areas will need support. It will be in your settings before you hit the 'slice' button. I'm still learning myself. All the best with your layout and happy modelling 😊
@ChobertonJunction5 күн бұрын
Hey Mav, thank you as always. The 9F is a lovely loco and I will release a running video soon although it turns out that it really does not like curves that are slightly tight. I also have one point it derails on all the time every other loco is fine over it and one point that it just stops on dead again every other loco runs over it fine. I will look into what you say about printing and supports spanning gaps. I should of realised that really but as I say a real learning curve. Take care and if I don't get the chance later wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Hey Tony, I’m just researching 3D printers myself!! even for fencing and wagon loads they’ll be brilliant! On a side note how did you find the bullhead to work with - I’m debating this vs code 100 again I have to say you track work looks 👌 any alarm bells with it? Ps layout looking lovely 👍
@ChobertonJunctionКүн бұрын
Hey Dave, the bullhead is a very fine and supposed to be more realistic. The only draw back and this is really nothing but I do have problems putting locos on can't get the wheels easily on the rails but that could be eye sight now lol. Also anything with a deep wheel flange (uhh err misses) will have trouble as they will catch on the sleepers and shoes. Other than that it is great. As for 3D printing pretty much got one for the same reason as you. Print off those small things that are needed in bulk like fencing etc so no brainer really.
