Hi everyone, many thanks for such a great response and feedback. Thanks for all your suggestions. Please remember that we only make the bodies so if there is no commercially available loco chassis then i am afraid we wont be able to help with some of your ideas. Its also quicker and easier to produce freelance items in the style of something than a rivet perfect copy.

taht is a great idea ^^.. especially if someone is on a budget like u or me. a friend of mine got a 3d printer last week and if one sands the model and airbrush it .. they look almost as good as the expensive models one can buy .. it all comes down to printer settings and grade of detail on the model blueprint.. my friend printed a 1:1200 battelship (the Bismarck) and it looks incredible.. so there isnt really a motiv to buy the expensive locos anymore .. just buying a chassis and build the 3d printed locos is much more fun and u can really get in tocuh with ur creation .. and even can build locos who are not available on the market .. like fantasy locos ..

This came right on time. I've been thinking of building a very very small layout to fit on top of a chest of drawers. The layout will include both a small narrow gauge terminus with run round loop and a siding as well as a single standard gauge line to run a DMU in and out of. These are the exact sort of things I was looking for and I look forward to ordering some once the layout is in a running state. Very good idea and not breaking the balance at about £20 a loco

Well done guys. I’m an N gauge-er. Rolling stock has nearly doubled in the past 5 years to the stage where I had decided enough is enough. I can possibly rethink that now. Hats off to you and I wish you loads of success (which I think is a foregone conclusion if you stick with it)!

These look great! I dabbled with some 3d printing (link to my shapeways shop on my channel) designing T gauge buildings. They were made many years ago, but it's something I'd like to get back into. Your kits make me want to give OO9 a go!

Amazing kits. I have not been able to build a 009 layout because the prices of 009 locos and rolling stock are so high but now I really want to as these kits are so affordable. I also think it is great all the locos fit the one chassis, even the steam loco. All I need now is the space for the layout. The engineers vehicle is a great idea and would look great in a little shed of its own on a little siding.
@BudgetModelRailways

Thanks, as improved with my video on the 009 layout you don't need a lot of room, in fact if you made a shunting layout even less. The engineers vehicle is my favourite.

Hat's off to you both, for making these 3D model kits at prices much lower than the major manufacturers kits. I like the idea of producing some small locos to fit the Hornby 0-4-0 chassis. These could easily be swapped around with the current Hornby Locos, to add a variety of body styles, without having to purchase extra chassis. Something to think about in 009. How about some open passenger coaches, the type you see on miniature railways across the country. a Building a Miniature Railway incorporated into a 00 gauge layout would be quite an interesting addition for a layout, something I have thought about after seeing one at a model railway exhibition several years ago.

I think this is a great idea and a great addition to the service you and Doug already provide. I was making a start in 009 before I realized the loco prices plus shipping were crazy to Canada. Fortunately as a loyal subscriber, I was happy to come upon the 18 inch OO layout and have started collecting the 4 and 6 wheel locos...now you're back making 009 affordable. What's a fellow to do? I think I'll stick with the OO now but will anxiously watch the OO offerings, especially any Pug/Peckett/class 3s and your version of the 4 wheel coaches that I saw running on the 18" layout.

This is incredible! It might be just what I need! I am building a small terminus layout right now but I've been wanting to do some narrow gauge but haven't known where to start. This is just wonderful! The only thing I would say is that there seems to be a bit of "flashing" (excess plastic on some of the models), is it just a teething problem for a new process? Nothing a file won't solve but worth keeping in mind.

Wow what great idea. You really do deserve to be saluted as heroes of modeling for these. I would be very interested in seeing what you can do for 00 in the future. Some ideas for 00? Something like the LNER Y11 petrol shunter? Something based on the Wisbeach and Upwell 0-4-0 steam trams? A freelance rendition of a Y10 double ended super sentinel? A victrian looking 0-4-0 well tank? A fireless 0-4-0? I await developments with interest

You seem to be getting some good results with that 3D printer. Could you tell us (or even better make a video) about some of the technical specs? Eg what printer do you use and what type of plastic filament etc? As for model ideas, How about doing something a bit different and doing some body kits for miniature railway rolling stock? The type of things you see at the seaside / theme parks etc? Nobody else seems to do the 15 inch gauge and under stuff. I also think 3d printing would lend itself really well to semi-low-relief buildings. You could do the front of a building like a 3 storey Victorian terraced house but do the bottom floor seperately, so it could be a shop, a house, a bank or whatever. I don't like card kits because there is no depth to the detail, so a 3D printed kit that was about an inch deep and could go up against a back scene with just enough depth to make the interiors believable or get a light in would be excellent.
@BudgetModelRailways
@BudgetModelRailways 6 жыл бұрын

The problem of suitable motor chassis would still need to be overcome. Even using two 0-4-0 would require an articulated joint between the two. It's something we might look at a way in the future but at present we have over a dozen existing projects to work on, inc two new 009 wagons and buildings. Thanks for the suggestion.

I've bought a few 3D printed things to fit Kato chassis of the Shapeways website (another platform for you to sell these on mabey), and I honestly think it is the future of budget railway modeling. I would suggest mabey explore experimenting with WW1 era War Department Light Railways kits. more and more people (myself included) seem to be making WW1 trench/field railway themed layouts recently. However it is not an easy thing to get budget rolling stock and locos for, so it might be an interesting seller for you. Your box wagon and tippler already resemble to a degree some of the distinctive wagons they used. perhaps you try producing something like a protected simplex petrol loco? Just a suggestion it all looks great and will definitely give your website a good look.

Could you please reveal what material you are printing in? I got a Robox Dual printer but so far have not found a good glue to use for what I make, maybe I need to buy a different filament. I got loco kits I design and sell via Shapeways (search Sparkshot Custom Creations) and use my printer mainly for prototyping these. If you could advise on filament and glue combination I'd be greatful. :) So far my favourite material to print in is HDglass, a modified PETG. Basically water bottle plastic.

I recently bought a new 6 wheel bogie of wish that is coplete with garing, requiring only a motor. It has six wheels and would be a great base for a ho/oo 0-6-0 or a diesel bogie. I think it cost 7 quid, but in bulk it could easily be adapted to your 3d project. I tthink a resin printer would be the way to go as the detail can be outstanding and easily rival hornbys best if done correctly.

Hi . As we have mentioned a few times, there are problems around actual factual designs. Firstly obtaining plans, then the huge amount of research required inc working out how to build it, plus potential copyright and intellectual property issues. Then the rivet counters will tear it apart if every last rivet isn't right! Always assuming there is a readily available cheap motor chassis of course. It's much easier to build a freelance design all be it in the style of a particular design.

Also I would suggest making a 00 gauge tram loco, I think that would go down well.

a oo gauge tram would be good. or a n gauge tram to fit the Kato chassis. I model in both scales and I would like a cheap n gauge tram.

If you are going to do n gauge cood you do the class 33 to fit the kato bo-bo chassis and 4tc if possible?

Hi, the Kato chassis is much too short for a class 33 sadly

I thought of another idea: maybe you could do a freelance LNER J70, that would be a pretty simple model to make, I think.
@BudgetModelRailways
@BudgetModelRailways 6 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes it was one of our initial ideas. The body is straight forward , fitting it to a chassis is a bit tricky but not a big problem. It's on the list, it's just a question of finding the time to make everything we would like to.
@patrickwebb7311

That's great. I look forward to seeing it. If you want to reuse the model shape and create 2 models, you could try creating a 4 wheeled LNER Y6. Hope that helps.

Hello guys I don't know how long it takes you to do one of these, but if you could do one for a Hornby Pocket Rocket then you could enter it into my competition (shameless plug) But I have fallen for that service vehicle and though I don't model 009 a may take one.... Great ideas as per guys Thanks Oliver

I'm impressed. I use SketchUp from time to time but I find it takes ages to get things done. I do most of my 3D work in Fusion 360 now. You can get a huge amount done in no time, and it exports to STL format for 3D printing.

Would be great if you could 3D print an N gauge Voyager (class 220/221) carriage or an N gauge class 390 Pendolino carriage as these are very rare to buy as individual coaches and I’m looking for one to put on my derelict rolling stock siding.

I think you should have a "photocopy fee" where you pay e.g. $60 and you get the computer model for you to print yourself, you can print as many as you need or just one if your crazy like that. Of course you'd decide the price.
@BudgetModelRailways
@BudgetModelRailways 6 жыл бұрын
The only problem with that is, and this what happened with some of the download buildings, is that you can also then print them and put them on eBay etc yourself, reducing our potential sales. I know of one 3D company where eBay was flooded with rip offs. Sorry
