Hi Mike Thanks for posting about your new Motorbike layout. For what its worth here are some things.... For trams with goods these might perhaps be interesting: Camborne and Redruth The Sospel to Menton Tramway Revisited (Chemins de Fer de Provence 51) Kinver light railway Railways by Stuart Marshall with inspiration from Kinver (and others I think): Brooks bridge Lambton & Verdane Regis Tramway And dare I mention tram on a ferry... Tram on a ferry to Kulosaari in Helsinki Is worth having a look for. And lastly the layout Shellsea Harbour. A light railway which has a similar track plan ish. Two locos are used to shunt and turn trains which might be of interest.

Another intriguing idea for a small layout! You mentioned a battery-powered controller. I wonder if you can get the Rokuhan controllers in the UK. I got one for Z scale, since that's what they're built for, but they can power a small N scale layout. They take batteries in addition to house current, and the connector they use that sends power to the track is compatible with Kato track connectors. I thought I'd give it a mention in case you hadn't heard of them before. Best of luck with this and the Japanese layout!

Great layout idea but if you're going as a tram/loco layout might I suggest Tomix track as they do a tram track ready to go rather than trying to build up to rail level with I'm guessing card and then trying to get the track insert to work between the rails, I know I go on about Tomix track but I've found it works, if you go on KZbin and look up Gallney Island Transport or my name you'll find a unfinished tramway layout I built many years ago to prove a point about using the tram as a switch in two rail use as it had been done rather successfully in 00 with overhead wire and both rails as returns, someone asked at an exhibition about doing it in two rail and I had to have a think about it
@BudgetModelRailways4 күн бұрын
@@duntalkin the problem with tomix or kato is the points, they are too big and with the wrong angles, they are also very expensive, about 6 times the cost of my 2nd hand peco points. I am using Kato track though for my much larger Japanese Exhibition Layout
@duntalkin4 күн бұрын
@BudgetModelRailways I don't know as you can get a 4½" radius electric point that is 140 mm long so about the same size as a set track peco for around £15 that comes with it's compensating curve and the tram track is ready to go for I think about £5 for four sections or if you want they do an insert and edging for their track to convert it
@BudgetModelRailways4 күн бұрын
It's the sharp angle that the points come off at that's the issue. Are those prices from Japan please or UK, as you have to factor in inport duty and excess postage charges. Both times I've bought from Japan I've caught a £15 cost
@duntalkin4 күн бұрын
@BudgetModelRailways that's the Japan price at Plaza Japan price, and if you don't mind waiting a few weeks the the shipping is about a fiver, as for the angle I pretty sure it's about the same as the peco set track which you pay £15 for as a manual and a big hole in your board if you want to electrify it. If you keep below, I think £135 per order the customs will let it go. I say that as touch wood, I've not had a problem yet
@BudgetModelRailways4 күн бұрын
@duntalkin both purchases have been under £100 and both times it's cost me an additional £15, I'm not alone, at a recent exhibition everyone I spoke to had the same issues.

I used a 9 inch radius piece as a template for producing that radius as the inner curve on my OO tramway (mentioned in the first post when I subscribed.) Now, the OO train brigade might thing that's impossibly tight for OO, but a four-wheeler tram will trot quite happily round (wait for it!) FIVE inch radius. Cheers! Pete
