I wouldn't consider the 31 a bargain as the old Triang wheels make it a clunky runner over the points. However It's still nice to have in my collection alongside the Airfix model. Happy with the two Mainline at a fiver each. Thanks for watching. ☮️🚂😀

My Triang 31 runs lovely over my points, which are standard Hornby. I got mine for £4.50 off a car boot and is my best runner. It also came with a Hornby LNER Coach. Tbh, alot of people say the older triang models aren't suitable for the modern Hornby points, but I have no issues with them and that includes a princess, jintys, 08's and a flying Scotsman. I do prefer the older models as they actually are more reliable
@wellchuffedrailways2 жыл бұрын
Not sure what the problem is with mine maybe they are slightly different points? Either way it's a lovely model for its age and it's a nice companion to the Airfix model o have an old Triang Hymek which is a cracking loco, I love the motors in these old models as they have a lovely heavy mechanical quality to them. You got a real bargain there, the only items I've found at a car boot sale is a big box of track but that was a real bargain! Thanks for watching and commenting Tommy. 😀

When I purchase Triang class 31s, I always check if the roof is on the correct way round. If it isn't then I know it's been serviced or tampered with or had a problem. Especially if the seller says mint condition or excellent. Always beware of locos that have been tampered with, especially with the slightly complex type of motor in these 31s.
@wellchuffedrailways2 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea, the loco runs pretty good actually considering it's age. Thanks for the tip and for watching. 😀

Best item I bought from Buxton some years ago was a brass O gauge V2 loco kit, about £ 130 I think. Had to buy loads of extras to complete and took 6 months to finish it. Ended up with a beautiful model !

Thank you for taking us along to the Buxton bargain hunt. You picked up a couple of nice old wagons for a fiver each! It’s interesting to compare the Hornby and Airfix Type 31’s. I wondered why you bought it and realise now that you wanted to compare it with your Airfix model. I like to look at the engines on display, especially the steam engines. I wouldn’t have been able to resist buying several, so it’s a good job I only made a virtual visit with you! You do well to pick up a few bargains. I would be going on a forced diet for a week or two! 😀Take care of each other and well done 👍🏼.

Hi Arthur, I love 31s! It puzzles me Airfix choose something already in production with a rival modeler. Pauline didn't come to Buxton as it was Mother's Day so I brought my Mum along prior to going for lunch. Normal service will be resumed on Sunday when we are at Haydock Toy Fair. This time I will be making a wish list and hunting these items down. Nothing major probably just a few wagons etc. Should be fun and hopefully be a good video. I think the best one we have done is the £5 coach video at Elsecar. After Haydock we are heading to Keighley for the Aire Valley Modellers Club open day. Hopefully filming a quick video (Weather dependent) on Saturday as well but that's a surprise! Thanks for watching and all the best Rick. 😀☮️🚂

@@wellchuffedrailways I thought I heard you say “mum”. It’s nice to take your mum out for lunch; good on you! Haydock is not far from my old stomping ground. I used to get a job at the racecourse for a couple of days when I was a student. I had a couple of friends in Ashton-in-Makerfield and Newton-Le-Willows. There’s so many double-barrelled names in England 🙂. You are certainly getting around the North of England and I enjoy watching your videos. Thank you for sharing your time and effort with us. 👍🏼🛤🚂

Hi Arthur Haydock was the first toy fair we attended back in 2018 pre KZbin of course. It must have been fun to work at the racecourse! My Mum is pretty knowledgeable on railways having taken me round exhibitions when I was a kid. One of my earliest memories is of her convincing a Deltic driver at York staion to let me have a sit in the cab! We are filming an exhibition in Scarborough in a few weeks so that should be fun. Bobby will be attending that one as we are staying over. After that we really need to visit a heritage railway, we haven't been on a train since we started the channel! ( I consider Carnforth our first proper video) Thanks for watching Arthur. ☮️😀🚂

Hello Rick and Pauline, just watched your video about when you bought the class 31. Great video, well presented and informative. I always like going to railway sales ect, you never know what you may come across I am 66 and left school when I was 15 and started working on British Rail , spent most of my working life on the railways and railways are my hobby, so what could be better than that.😊 . Look forward to seeing your next video. Best wishes from The East Riding of Yorkshire. 👍

Hi Martin glad you enjoyed the video. We try to make our videos fun but also informative. They are mostly done in one take but we do a lot of research on the models prior to filming. It must have been an interesting life working on the railways for all those years and you must have seen an awful lot of changes in addition to some wonderful locos! The railways are very different now to what they were only 20 years ago, oh well progress and all. Thanks for the wonderful feedback, we have a lot planned over the next few months. All the best Rick. 😀

@@wellchuffedrailways Hello Rick, yes I've had a great life on the railways over the years. My first week at work in a railway good's yard we had a class 08 shunter in the yard and the driver showed me how to drive it then he let me drive it, it was amazing ! I've a photo of me on the 08. One of the shunters took the photo. Happy days indeed. 🙂

I have the green Hornby 31, not a bad loco for it's age. I like the Horlicks wagon, well worth the money.
@wellchuffedrailways2 жыл бұрын
Yes it's not bad for a near 60 year old tooling! The Horlicks wagon is one of the rarer Mainline wagons at least at fairs. Cheers Andrew.

Cheers Tim! The Ellis one is the first wagon they produced back on 76 and I think the Horlicks one is from 79? Not a bad price as they look like new.

The Triang 31 , don’t remember it having pick ups on the non motor bogie ? or was it added later in production? I know a lot of Modelers add extra pick ups to these
@wellchuffedrailways2 жыл бұрын
Hi Alan I think it did but I would have to check to be sure. I have an old Triang Hymek with the same arrangement so it's probably original. It all looks a bit home made but it works pretty well. Thanks for watching. 😀

@@robertmarsh3588 pick-ups definitely do their job because the 31 is a great runner for its age apart from a being a bit bumpy over the points. Thanks for watching. 😀
