Oh, this takes me back to the 1970s when I ran across paper models via ads in wargaming magazines, I think. I ordered a few kits from a German company. I remember I build a WW2 U-boat and a JU-52 aircraft. I was into plastic models for wargaming so these intrigued me. I always enjoyed working with paper and cardstock for little projects. so I enjoyed the paper models immensely. I used both acrylic and water-based paints and I was surprised at how well the paper took my attempts at weathering. I also remember I used matte finishing spray that tended to stiffen the paper up quite nicely. Thank you Christopher for the trip down memory lane! Now, I am going to brows your website. Cheers!

I am glad you enjoyed my talk. The two main German publishers the were Schreiber and Wilhelmshaven. Schreiber has since foresworn military subjects, but has an impressive range of castles which apparently don't count. They also had a 1:50 scale Ju52 in commercial livery with cabin detail including passenger headrests. I bought the kit in Austria on holiday about 1980 and made it. Unfortunately, a sheet was missing and when I contacted Schreiber, they told me that the kit was no longer in print so my detailed Ju52 with passenger headrests and joysticks etc remained minus a wing. To their credit, Schreiber offered to send me another kit instead and I chose their 1:200 D-LZ127 Graf Zeppelin (currently available) which comes out at about 4 feet long and looks good hanging from the ceiling. My website is low-tech, so please feel free to come back with any questions/comments

Thank you Christopher, that is helpful to those of us who are curious about card modelling. It was nice to be reminded of Seagull Models!

Thank you, Bruce, for your kind comments. Talking of Seagull Models, although they had disappeared by the time Marcle Models started in 1990, a few years later, a business called Book Ends traded from the same South Kensington premises, selling card models. I even supplied them with some stock. Small world!

Are models of the German liner with the submarine and cruiser still and our other models such as the Carpathia and Titanic still available to this day? I've been wanting to try this type of modeling but was afraid of the lack of detail

It’s a shame that no one makes 1/144 & 1/72 scale paper ship models to match the common smaller scale model railways.I model in n scale or 1/144 scale railways and as also interested in merchant shipping have included a large dock scene on my layout.Im having to compromise with the few limited plastic models available or maybe start scratch building.

Excellent stuff. Do you supply the laser cut additional kit for the Polish kits, such as HMS Lion? As you said elsewhere, your website is a bit 'austere'.

my problem with paper models is their garbage instructions. They have the worst instructions in any type of model building kit.
