Thank you for making more Alibre tutorials! I'm really enjoying using Atom(so I had to sketch the profile myself), but what I did to generate helical gears(and avoid Loft, because sometimes has unexpected results) was use a "Helical Boss"(Helix in the Boss menu), set for "Height & Pitch", it allows me to input the width of the gear and for pitch I found a simple formula online(module * No. teeth * PI / cos(angle)) which lets me make fully parametric helical/herringbone gears!

If you do it like that tooth will grind through the axle. It doesn't follow curvature of the shaft. Check time 7:41 when there is short yellow shaft visible.

That's a fair point, I might have to look at a tighter control on that loft

FOr the loft command when trying to make helical gears, maybe it's a twist minimization..? Cool Video by the way!

Really like your videos, thank. Do you have any on Alibre Dymamic part library and how to use on professional to help tailored design intent? I’m struggling to work it out as I’m too new to all this. Thanks

How would I create a 45 degree helical gear in Freecad. Everytime I create one (not knowing the helix angle) I can not make a center hole

I would recommend the fc gear workbench add in. It is able to generate helical/herringbone gears with a lot of options.

hi . I hope you are able to answer a problem I'm having as far as 'how to plot out a gradient' , in reference to a slopping lot of land that I need to draw a house upon. The house I want to draw sits on a block of land that slops diagonally, about 3 metres, from one diagonal corner to the opposite. So its about a 10 degree gradient. Not only that, but beneath the house, at the lower back side of the house, there has been some excavation into the earth, into the slopping lot of land, which brings more complexity to the drawing. I see many shapes in free cad that are much more complex than this, but unless one knows where to start. All demonstration I have found so far regarding architectural work is of someone drawing a basic rectangular box, and extruding walls. this brings me to another problem I cant find an answer to, which is; 'because the house I am trying to draw is not rectangular, I am using the single line tool, but I can't seem to find how to merge the corners of those single walls together. I have tried various ways of using the merge wall tool but again, I cant figure it out. its just maddening trying to figure all this out. I have looked all over the internet, and on Freecad forums but cant find any reference to how this is done. Which way would you suggest setting out the co-ordinates for such a drawing. Any help with the slopping , gradient, would be great. By the way, one of the biggest problems I'm having is trying to learn the language of CAD. When I read an instruction, it is literally 'gobble de Gook'. thanks.

Do you have previous experience in 2D cad are are you using 3D from scratch? It sounds like you're using FreeCAD? If so, what workbench(s)?

Joko Thanks again for showing Alibre a little love, this is a little off the topic from your video, But I'm hoping you could give me a little GPU advice, there just isn't a lot of info out there, and with the current price of Graphics Cards I don't want to make a stupid, expensive mistake. First off I'm not a Gamer, or Content Creator - almost everything I do noteworthy is 3D related - Alibre Design Expert V25, Blender, and Ideamaker for slicing. I'm running Windows 10 on a desktop with Dual Core Xeon CPU E5-2680 0 @ 2.70GHz and 32 GB RAM. I currently run only 1 display, with an AMD Radion HD 7500 with 1GB Ram. I also use 3dconnexion Space Mouse. Everything is in a big HP Z620 box, so I should have lots of room. I don't want to break the bank, but I know that my current GPU is holding me back. Thanks again for all you give us

I'm not a GPU expert either, I know that the Nvidia Quadro series is good for CAD. I believe the principle behind it is gamer cards are optimized for speed whereas CAD cards are optimized for precision. The Quadro has been great on my pc (Xeon CPU 32GB RAM Windows/Linux much like yours) with every platform I have used e.g. realview in SolidWorks is seamless), though next time I think I'd prefer an equivalent from AMD as I hear they take more care on Linux support and compatibility. I currently use Nvidia Quadro M2200. Just my 2 cents, good luck.

@@JokoEngineeringhelp Thanks Joko That's EXACTLY the kind of advice I was hoping for. After a little more poking around on the web with your recommendation in mind, I think I'm going to give the Nvidia Quadro M2000 a go, appears to be the Desktop version of your M2200. Looks like they've been around a while so reliability shouldn't be an issue, and they're off the radar of all the Cool Kids so they're a little more affordable. Once again, thanks for all you do!

@@JokoEngineeringhelp Hey Joko Thanks again for the GPU advice. I just got my Nvidia Quadro M2000 installed. I couldn't be happier, it's made a big difference. I was able to pick up a "Renewed" on on Amazon (folks seem to have good things to say about their renewed gear) for about $150.00. I certainly could have spent a lot more and got a real HotRod, but I doubt I'd be really taking advantage of it. This seems to be perfect for my needs. Keep up the great work!

The helical gear is wrong you should have used a sweep and not a loft with this method the pitch surface of the gear will have a hyperbolic profile instead of a cylindrical one, meaning two of such gears WILL NOT MESH properly
@JokoEngineeringhelp
@JokoEngineeringhelp 2 жыл бұрын
Nope. Nothing about this remotely meets the definition of a hyperbolic profle. It was a loft between two sketches with no modifiers and if there is any question a ruled loft can be used. You can argue that the twisting of the profile of the top face should be finessed, but again that has absolutely nothing to do with hyperbolic tooth profiles.

It works in both, it was meant to mean professional use level licensing but it turned out to be confusing because one of the licenses is actually called professional.

@@JokoEngineeringhelp thank you... I assuming that a 45degr bevel is only a matter of 'lofting' to a 45degr inner circle on the opposite side? and based on your herringbone example, this can only be realized on a 3D printer, not a CNC(unless a rotary axis is implemented).

@@DormantIdeasNIQ RIght- the biggest drawback of herringbone gears is manufacturability. Sometimes they'll put a gap in the middle like this as well. img.diytrade.com/smimg/2624464/47385104-9352716-0/Herringbone_Gear_/7e59.jpg
