Fantastic - if I could sneak a cheeky tram onto every layout I would, but not sure it would work on my next layout - which is going to be a desert scene!

This video brings back memories from when I took my partner to New Orleans for her 50th. The tram we boarded for a trip out took us to what we thought was an idyllic park on the outskirts of town... Leaving us there for an hour or two in the middle of summertime, with near on 37° heat, we were very pleased to see the little tram return and take us back to the wonders of an air-conditioned hotel...😂 Brits abroad and our foolish adventures! 😅

Your cameraman sounds like my boss. He flies Lufthansa whilst I get booked on either Wizz or Ruinair. Krakow is a wonderful city. I always make a visit to the tram museum - even whilst they were reconstructing a few years ago and there were only two lonely vehicles there. Next time you visit Poland, check out the variety of tram types in Upper Silesia. As well as Konstals they have a Konstantinos N at Bytom and a range of new PESA Twists plus some of the most ‘exciting’ track you’ll travel over. You’ve inspired me to extend my limited n-gauge tram collection. Excellent video, many thanks.

sounds fantastic! I will definitely be going back to Poland … and you meet some lovely people on budget airline flights! I sat next to a lovely lady on the flight home called Magdalena who recommended I take the train to Zakopane next time ( did I spell that right?).

Great update and very well presented. I too love trams and when I was a Sprog I can remember them running in South London! I also think you've just increased the tourist business in Poland with your mini tour!!! Interesting insight into a potted history of there trams and trains and thank you for sharing.

I enjoyed your tram video very much. Krakow looks to have an amazing system. Here in the States we call them trolleys, streetcars and light rail. They have might quite a comeback in the last 40 years. With many new systems having been built. Hope you do more tram documentaries. I also love seeing all the stunning British Railway models and trains. Cheers.

Does anyone remember Trolley Buses, they had the advantage that if they broke down they could be pushed out if the way. They would look good on a layout, maybe a tad difficult, but not for Dawn me thinks. Another lovely video with a different theme, thankyou

As a frequent visitor to Krakow, I've spent hundreds of hours on the trams there. Some are from the Communist era, but most are new Bombardier trams, they are really nice to travel on. I usually buy a 30 day ticket for £10, and once activated you can travel on any tram at any time all over the city (and buses too). The Museum of Municipal Engineering in Kazimierz is a brilliant place to visit, well worth the £2 to get in. The sleek intercity train is the 'Pendolino' that goes all the way up to the Baltic coast. The train from Krakow Glowny to the airport is one of the nicest trains I have been on, smooth, comfortable and fast (18 minutes each way). The old narrow gauge tramline is just outside MacDonalds, seen it MANY times!

I lived in Poznan for 7 years and used the trams there every day. There were a good many communist trams still running at the time, but they've mostly gone now. I lived not far from the railway line from Poznan to Wolsytn and often saw the steam train running. Somewhere, I have a photo I took of it one morning; it was a lucky shot that came out very well. I've even seen a steam loco crossing the road to the Exhibition Centre there, but I think this siding has now been taken up. One of the nice things about Poland is that one can still find trams, plinthed steam engines and narrow gauge railways all over the country. I love Krakow: I wish I'd lived there instead!

We had a brilliant tram system in London many years ago. They disappeared in 1952. Society didn't realise at that time just how environmentally friendly they actually were. We need to make lots of layouts of these beautiful things so that people can see how advanced they were.

Had no idea Poland had such a great tram system. I live within walking distance of the Croydon tram system which had massive opposition when they were building it but it's been a massive success and hopefully will be extended soon, a great way to travel we need to build more.

Mam wielu polskich przyjaciół, oglądam polskie filmy, a jednym z moich ulubionych zespołów jest GOLEC uORKIESTRA. Trzeba też pojechać do Gdańska i Warszawy, żeby zobaczyć ich pociągi i tramwaje. Warto odwiedzić także Kalisz, bardzo piękne miejsce. I have many Polish friends, and I watch Polish films, and one of my favourite bands is the GOLEC uORKIESTRA. You also need to go to Gdansk and Warsaw to see their trains and trams. Also Kalisz is well worth a visit, very beautiful place. I am also learning Polish, so I thought I would show off. 🐕🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶

I believe the Faller road vehicles have a fairly weak magnet on the steering mechanism, requiring the guide wire to be right up at the road surface. The Kato vehicles have rare-earth magnets in the steering mechanism with the guide wire at a lower level in the road section. The Kato guide wire is too deep for Faller mechanisms to follow reliably, whilst the Kato magnets can actually stick to faller guide wire at the road surface. Some people use magnetic strips in place of guide wires, but I am not sure if it allows a mix of Kato and Faller vehicles to use the same roadway.

Thanks for the great video - and the mention too! 😊 I am hoping to model the railways in the Poznan area of Poland, as this is where i have visited most. I am thinking of using the new Kato 'my classic tram' on a short length of track, serving an out of town rail station. The Kato tram looks similar to some of the older trams from Poznan, and just need a repaint in the Poznan colours of green and white, or cream. Oh yes, if you want to see more of Polish railways, try getting to Wolsztyn, which is a bit of a drive from Poznan. It is a steam heritage centre, and still runs steam specials in the area! (Although I have yet to get on one...😢)

When it comes to N Gauge trams, don't forget that Arnold produce the Duewag GT6 in numerous liveries, Kato produce a Hanover type 200, Hobbytrain (alias Kato) produce the Duewag M6 and M8 models in various liveries, and Tomiytec not only produce the the Duewag GT6S in the livery you have but also for Muenchen, Braunschweig, Berlin, Leipzig and Nuernburg. Tomytec have also announced a new model for the Tatra T3 (both single and double cars) in Praha, Leipzig, and Dresden liveries.

@@modelrailwayquest Only tram not yet on my layout is the Tatra T3 - on back-order from Germany. Modellbahn Kramm also sell an un-motorised Milano tram in N gauge. Tomy-tec did a 5-section Japanese tram a few years ago which is a treat but I wish they would use the chassis to produce a modern European tram like a Citardis or a Combino.
