Filmed this one a while ago, just the truck collecting some Brickwoods.
You'll notice the paddle get stuck with the load of the last bin, which was insulation off of copper wire. The paddle motor doesn't output enough torque at low speeds to be able to push past items that fall between it and the wall of the hopper bowl (especially rubber items).
The truck has changed a bit since this video. I've made cast spoke rims (often called spider hubs/spider wheels), redone the mudguard on the cab and at the back and I am experimenting with leather instead of Neoprene rubber for the spill shield.
The arm has had a rebuild due to a number of broken parts, many of which had been on their way out for ages. All of these parts I redesigned to try and prevent breakages. I think it has done about 400 or 500 bins since the rebuild without breaking.
The motor in the arm and grabber get flogged really quickly. The grab motor heats up and melts the housing, then the brass bushing holding the pin that holds the gears in place allows movement and the gearset binds. This drastically reduces it's grabbing ability. The motor used for the slide has had this happen really badly, you can see it stuggle on the way out to grab the second bin. There are aluminium housings for these motors which would fix the problem, but they are more expensive.
The motor in the top of the arm wears out the gears and gets heaps of slack in it, which is what was causing the bounce and swaying at the top of the cycle in the last video.
Otherwise this truck is going a lot better than the last one, partially due to what I learnt from the last model but I am also taking better care of this truck.
Thanks for reading if you've made it this far haha, Cheers!
Enjoy the video.
