Nice tutorial Eric. One option if your cinder block covering is brand new, to break monotony and add some story, if it looks like brand new, an uncomplete window covering with a brick layer on scaffold inside building adding a cinder block would be awesome. I suppose that work is made from inside instead than outside on high scaffold. Need a cinder block, a figure in a related position and a scaffold part for the visible section. Some distance behind, to hide building emptiness, some pile of boxes ready for shipping. More work but may be not so much. For an older wall, opposite is also possible. Making an opening for new air ducts, fan etc... Always good when a tiny story enhance the big one. Your building never gets old, it always improve.😊😊

You're certainly right Daniel. It might be fun to show a renovation in process on one of these. So many options :)

Doing great man... as usual. Really like what you did with that old style building ! You're very good for a N scaler.

The tissue paper roofing material is a great idea. I have a couple buildings that needs some updates up top for which I will try that.
@ChicagoCrossingRR2 ай бұрын
I've come to realize that paper is about the best roofing material there is out there. Sandpaper for aggregate, tissue paper for plastic or tar paper.

Hi Eric, So right about ways to brick and mortar. I found that if I use a light gray acrylic on a building molded brick color plastic, I can got a good affect just by wiping the excess gray off with a damp paper towel. It leaves a light film on the brick that looks good. If you want, you can sponge paint over that.

Thanks for sharing your approach Paul. I've heard a lot of folks swear by this approach. I know Steve over at Steve's Trains uses a similar method and incorporates some joint compound in there as well. I haven't yet tried that approach but probably will. I think I may end up studying brick for years.

Another excellent video, Eric. As you know, this topic is of particular interest to me. 🙂 Thanks for the mention of RSLaser brick and block sheets. It looks as though they are very thin, which would be helpful for a project I'm conteplating where the windows are molded into the walls. Also, thanks for the detail on how you paint and do mortar fill. Cheers from Wisconsin!

They are very thin Andy you're right - and some of the laser cut brick sheets out there come with adhesive backing, though I think I'd always want to glue it in place :)

Excellent tips. I am now inspired to do some bricking over. The building looks great. Music reminds me of Vince Guaraldi. Thanks for the vids.

There's a lot of decent piano trio music in the KZbin library, must say. Let me know via email how it turns out or if you have any questions!

Your coffee cup says Willis towers. You need to cross that out and write in Sears Tower. LOL...I'm old fashioned.

Good eye! I'm the same way. I grew up with that being the Sears Tower. I'll see about making some edits to the mug ;)

You have a unique presentation style that only gets better with time. I swear that the only thing missing for me is a nice G&T to a accompany the music, while settling in to watch a master a work. As an aside, what is the title of the music? Cheers.
@ChicagoCrossingRR2 ай бұрын
Ha thanks, and please do enjoy a cocktail. Wish I could do that while working on the models! The tune is part of the KZbin music library and represents a collective of musicians, so the actual artists here are unknown. Like a lot of purpose-made music there are some occasional gems in there. I curate the channel playlist to mostly relaxed piano trio works and a few more upbeat things. I also will sometimes throw in era-relevant tunes from local Chicago indie bands that I enjoyed in the 90s.

Hi again. Would you consider doing a whole building painted all black and colors done by dabbing paint over it (columns, bricks and mortar) ?
@ChicagoCrossingRR2 ай бұрын
Hey Luc - that's more or less what I did with the bakery building on the stage-right side of the layout and it worked great. All of my buildings get a black paint coat on the interior for opacity and I think it works well for helping to build shadow on exteriors. This model was originally paint on naked plastic and it turned out nicely as well. As is often the case it seems there are multiple right answers.
@lucgagnon52412 ай бұрын
@@ChicagoCrossingRR Thanks for answering. I've started painting things in black first and final paint coat not long ago. I'm mainly doing it on railcars, railcar's trucks, pipes, storage tanks... The thing with weathering buildings is that it needs artistic skills. In a way, it's easier because precision is not needed as doing a paint job on a car or an engine. BUT, it's harder because there has to be precision... in none precision. In other words, good artistic skills. That part is what I'm missing the most. Keep on your good work man.

It's always a pleasure to watch your videos. I notice that it's a bit better modeling N scale. The bigget things are, the hardest painting and weathering jobs are. BUT, you're doing things VERY nicely. Especially the weathering part. That's why I'm a big fan !
