All those people who start moaning about the releases this year are welcome to go and start their own model company. We await their much awaited releases with bated breath. Airfix released a 1/48 Jaguar. That alone makes this year's releases the best ever. That 2 seater Spitfire is bound to be popular. I'm not big on 1/35 armour, but that Stalwart looks like something a little bit different that might get a look in. The Artemis is about 70cm tall. Luckily my cabinet can fit one in, but then I'll have a big gap, so I'll have to get the other rockets as well.

I thought it was a fairly balanced release, seeing as there were a variety of subjects from all eras, across many scales and in interesting schemes. That new Jag is gonna be a winner for sure!

Nice to see the MTB and E boat back why they didn't do a 1/72 jaguar new mold when they have done it in forty eight scale , and on the eighty anniversary of 78 squadron moving from bomber command to transport could they have not done a new Halifax rather than new decal fortress and liberator , the hovercraft sure brings memories back so might get that for nostalgia
@ModelMinutes
@ModelMinutes 12 сағат бұрын
I imagine they only have so many 3D designers. To scale down the jaguar design from 1/48 to 1/72 is not a one to one scaling job. Parts would have to be redesigned which is more time and cost. Then the tool manufacture process etc. The old jag tooling already exists and easier to spin up a production line

For a 1967 tooling, the Boeing Clipper is a nice kit. Built a previous boxing and had no issues with it. Big bonus with this one will be the Cartograf decals. Don't usually do jets, but the 1/48 Jaguar will be an exception. Nice to see the Albion Refueler and Bedford truck back again too. The B-24D is tempting for the 'Lady Be Good' markings. A tragic but fascinating story. Overall, an interesting selection of subjects.

The Two Seat Spitfire catches my eye as something interesting. I built a few 1/48 Airfix Spitfire's last year and they're really impressive, including the PR XIX. I built the 1/76 Land Rover years ago, I remember it being decent and been doing a few of the Vintage Classic tanks, and for the age, they've genuinely impressed me as well. I could be easily talked into the 1/72 Vintage Classic Jaguar, partly because it's a kit I built as a kid, and also because I sing the praises of the Vintage Classic idea and try to support it.

@deaks25 yes, Irish Air corps artwork is on the box...the Tr Mk 9 was NOT used by the R.A.F. and didn't exist until the early 1950s...only 20 of them were ever made...some genius at Supermarine thought there would be a market for a cheap trainer for cash strapped air forces following ww2 so they bought back 20 R.A.F. surplus single seaters and converted them to 2 seaters and of the 20 they were sold as follows 1) Egyptian Air Force x1 2) Royal Netherlands Air Force x3 3) Indian Air Force x10 4) Irish Air Corps x6

While we all wish Airfix would release every single model that we want to build, just go and find out how much it costs to get moulds made, even in China. It seems like they are being cheeky releasing old kits again and again, and newer kits with new parts or schemes, but you really need to get your money's worth out of those moulds. If you can release a kit that you already have moulds for, why not?

I think this may be a hot take, but I was honestly pretty disappointed by this years launch. A big thing I've wanted airfix to do is diversify their range, rather than being about 80-85% british. I mean the 1/48 Jag i don't really care for, but I know a lot of people wanted it, so I won't diss them for that. I guess my anti british-ness comes from me being an american, and I do get airfix is a british company, but like i said, I would really like to see some more international subjects. I will say on the bright side I am really excited for the B-24D.

Airfix is going to focus on some fairly british subjects, afterall, its what they have access to for research, where they are headquartered and one of their biggest markets. It's like how Heller focused on French subjects. R+D always takes time and I am sure that in the future there will be more varied subjects, but I think this year there was a good balance between vehicle types. Ranging from space, land vehicles, boats, fixed and rotary wing aircraft, there was quite a bit

A good set of releases, though sadly nothing to add to my collection, my niche is British WWII in 1:72. I might consider the B-17, but the RAF ECM configuration isn't crying out to me.

@ 1:72 maybe but certainly nothing for me for some years. There has been the Hudson and Hampden in classics, fantastic if they had been me moulds but not up to wrestling with such old kits.

£60 for a brand new, 1/48 scale model kit with the quality and level of detail that we have started to expect from Airfix of late? 243 parts, 4 paint schemes to choose from, and when complete it will be about 35cm long and 18cm wide (so not exactly a small model). I would be surprised if there weren't some detail differences between the GR.1 and GR.1a and a selection of armaments . . . Doesn't really seem particularly expensive to me. Especially when you consider similar products in the same scale of similar size are about the same price edit: Don't forget that club members typically get 10% off the Airfix webstore, and other sellers will be retailing it with some sort of discount anyway, as is quite typical for most shops

New releases? as always tons of FW 190, Spitfires, B-24, B-17 etc. Why this and other manufacturers do not produce something really new in 1:72 scale like Lavochkin-7, Grumman Albatross, Yakolev-9, Dornier Do-335, Kaman Seasprite for example? Same frustration when looking at the "new" releases of 1:25 scale cars although Airfix do not produce too much cars in that scale but rather the horrible 1:32 starter kits.

I suppose they like to sell models that will be popular, like I said at the beginning, the popular kits help fund the more obscure ones

Still nothing jumping out and shouting “Buy me!”, the New Year’s resolution to reduce purchases is still unbroken. However, the Lysander is on preorder and hopefully arriving soon, likewise the Club Kit Me410 and there is a good stash of Flying Hours saved up. The Wessex, when released with RN markings will be purchased. Thanks for getting this review out asap

Two 1/48 Spitfire new toolings and a 1/48 flagship release with the Jaguar while doing zero fixed wing aircraft toolings in 1/72 is a slap in the face to 1/72 modelers. To add insult to injury the entire vintage classic range this year is 1/72 as if they're trying to say something...
@ModelMinutes
@ModelMinutes 12 сағат бұрын
I am not sure it is a slap in the face. After all, previous years have seen a lot of 1/72 new toolings whilst other scales have seen less. I don’t think they can do everything and have to make a balance to try and stay profitable. If they don’t make profit there definitely won’t be any new 1/72 kits

Spitfire Tr Mk9......only 20 of them were ever made.....converted from surplus R.A.F. single seaters in the early 1950s...some genius at Supermarine thought there would be a market for a cheap trainer for cash strapped Air Forces following ww2 and of the 20 that were converted to 2 seat TR Mk 9 spec they were sold as follows 1) Egyptian Air Force x1 2) Royal Netherlands Air Force x3 3) Indian Air Force x 10 4) Irish Air Corps x 6.

people always seem surprised - like I said at the beginning, they pay for the R+D of other kits and if you don't want a spitfire, don't buy one. There were 40 other models to pick from this year. Personally I got no problem with Spitfires because other people will buy them and if that means I can have my obscureoplane at some point, that is fine with me

If I remember correctly there was a new tool in 1/72, as well as some different versions of 2023/2024 toolings with new parts. I don’t think it is fair to say it is only old kits in 1/72 because that certainly isn’t true
