pick something that you are interested in - anything designed and manufacturered by Airfix in the last 5 years or so should be great to build (older kits are good too, but may have a few extra challenges with fit etc)

What do your think of this as a 'beginner' kit??
@ModelMinutes3 күн бұрын
I wouldn't recommend this to a beginner due to the high part count and the various elements that need to be painted at different stages in the assembly. I'd suggest something smaller or simpler

Great video review, Matt! When you showed it was actually a Heller kit I was reminded that I had the first release of this kit by Heller in my stash. I took a look at it and it appears relatively flash free, though I would have expected this from a first release of the tooling (going back to 1979). It's all raised panel lines, but they're not excessively large. If you wanted to see a truly horrendous 1:72 Sabre kit, I would have to say the PM Model kit # PM-208 (from Turkey) fits the bill very well. I bought the kit because of the attractive box art showing the Turkish Airforce "White Swans" aerobatic color scheme. What awaited me inside the box was truly shocking, and I only keep it as a reminder of how far the kit industry has progressed. The original manufacturer of the kit was PMS Plastic Model, and I can only imagine the folks making this kit were perhaps suffering from said affliction.

What did I think of your list! What did you expect when you bout these relics of the 70s and 60s? Update their too-lings? Why? These Airfix and Revell offerings were kits. Produced to be easy to build and affordable. Destined to be covered in fingerprints and glue blobs often as first models. Model kits were thought of as toys back then. With today's expectations even Tamia kits from that era are not much to look at. They were top-of-the-line back then.

If a company sells an old tooling in new boxes alongside their new toolings and give no indication that the product you might be purchasing is lower quality - then I will call these companies out on it every single time, that's why they get a bad review (and will continue to do so until the companies decide to do something about it)

Unfortunately i'd pass on this watch. I own one of their watches (one of the Hawker Hunter ones) and it completely fell to bits. the buttons came off and the strap fell apart. They are nice designs, but the poor build quality is not worth the price they charge for them.

I can imagine these are not for everybody but I actually like the concept. The packaging that the watches come in ties in wonderfully with the Airfix brand and the watches themselves are of good quality (I've owned two for several years with no problems). I've heard some say it's a distraction from Airfix's main business which I can see where they're coming from to an extent but depending on the agreement between Airfix and AVI-8, it's certainly not going to do either company any harm. Always enjoy the videos Matt. 👍👍
@ModelMinutes5 күн бұрын
What I think people forget is that this is not Airfix that are making watches, it is Avi-8, an actual watch-making company... It's a collaboration between the two companies

Hi Matt, Looking at the other watches in the range that you showed it seems your one doesn't have the airfix logo that they have on the face. Personally i think the logo makes them look cheap and tacky and the watches have a tenuous link to famous aircraft. I believe they also did an 80th anniversary D Day watch recently to cash in on that momentous historical undertaking where thousands of people lost their lives. They look like the sort of items to be found in the back pages of newspaper supplements!
