The base looks great and really sets off the models.....terrific job and an excellent video. I never thought of using the dry brush technique to high-light clothes on figures....thanks for the tip....it's in the vault for future use!

Thanks! Dry brushing is quite old school but can be very effective for things like figures :)

Very nice diorama. Good to see Tamiya improving their figures. Old ones I built back in the 70's were actually quite crude.
@ModelNerd
@ModelNerd 6 күн бұрын
They really were. A bit over scale and not super realistic. But these new ones are fantastic. I like Miniart figures for the detail too, but I find they often have poor fit (especially when adding equipment, bags, etc)

The Kettenkrad is one of my favorite military vehicles. The idea of it is completely absurd, yet it proved very useful in its intended role. Your build illustrates this very well. All of the figures kind of look like they’d rather be somewhere else yet they’re getting the job done. As others have said the use of natural slate for the base is brilliant. Handling the borders of a diorama is never simple- the usual ways look so artificial, as if the scene was cut out of reality and has no connection to the rest of the world they are supposed to exist in. Somehow, the exposed ragged edge of the stone mitigates that for me.

Thank you Mark - I really appreciate that. Diorama size and shape has always been something I found hard to decide, so the slate really did help

Hello Stu, its been a while since I have posted a comment, things in the colonies have been a bit chaotic for a while. This dioroma was quite creative. Ironically while I'm mainly aircraft, I need to broaden my horizons and this kit is my first deviation into the armour/ vehicle realm so your timing is excellent. Plus, I've always thought this kind of small supply type configuration still has some good application in today's world. Thanks for sharing, hope all is well, Cheers Bob.

Hello Bob, good to hear from you. The Luftwaffe also used the Kettenkrad - there are references images of it being used to tow aircraft - so maybe you could do a combo diorama?

Hey Stu, hope you're well. 👍 Wow mate! This is absolutely beautiful work! 👌👏💯 The way you build and finish your models is really lovely to watch. I should really try to emulate your style and technique! The figures are really fantastic! Not just the new style from Tamiya, which are far superior to the older style ones, but in the way you have finished them. They are absolutely stunning! The different shades and highlights really lifts all the details. And the base! 👌👍 Inspired idea but carried out to perfection! For such a small vehicle with 3 figures and a base, you have elevated this kit far beyond its parts. I personally think its one of your best ever vignettes! Definitely one of my favourites of yours and one that I would be more than proud of if built myself! Thankyou for posting Stu, 20 minutes that I really enjoyed! 😍😁 Looking forward to your upcoming builds (which judging from your 2025 preview , promise to be exciting and varied!) Take care mate 👍👊

I bought one of the original tooling kit way (way!) back and it actually came with a die-cast metal engine block, which gave the model a nice weight. I think the die-cast engine was discontinued as I discovered, when I purchased another of the same kit, the engine was just a molded plastic part.
